Not only did he build a racecar and tell us the story but he allowed young enthusiasts to help him knowledge is the best payment
This is the racer way.
He also let old enthusiasts come work. Like a rented mule. 🤣
Unpaid internships ARE NOT the way
@@JimBobe they denied the payment themselfs though and wanted the knowledge money isn’t everything in this world

John is a born storyteller .. a total joy to listen to
I don't know whom is better, him or Ed!
@@Leon-Servant-of-Christ Difficult choice , call it a tie , I know total copout!
Mark Gold is pretty good too!
@@Leon-Servant-of-Christ Ed talks too fast to be considered a good storyteller. May have something to do with being a car salesman. He has stories to tell, but is not a good storyteller.
Rabbit and Doug Tabbut are also up there on the list.
Always amazing that I can hear this man talk for the better part of half an hour and think that only 5 min went by.
first time seeing/hearing him for me.... but yeah, that was wholely enjoyable and deeeefinitely didn't feel like more than 5ish minutes haha =)
First time seeing him. Kept checking the time bar because I didn't want this story to end
@@wpgspecb Then I would highly recommend that you check out all the other videos with him in them. Ficcara's stories are always a great listen & always seem to end 30 min too soon. Check the playlists.
(Also, Christopher Michaels is always fun to listen to as well.)
When John is telling a story you forget that you aren't actually sitting in the same room listening to him. Guy is a master story teller.
We are going to start releasing Car Trek 4 a week from today on Freddy's channel.
Beyond excited please dont ever get picked up by big tv it'll ruin your perfect reaction to things please stay on youtube! Cant wait notifications are on
Finally!!
YaY! I am so excited. 😁
Ayyyyy!!!! Finally!
Ok
CZcams has added a COVID warning to this video. 🤣🤣
CZcams "warnings" are so inept it's hilarious every time they show up.
Big tech companies for ya forcing that stuff down your throat. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-masker and I don't believe Covid is a hoax but they do stretch it a bit. They also add "election info" if you put Trump, Biden or anything political in the title.
Well yeah. The world is on basically on fire right now with covid... we'll india anyway. I know 23 people that have died from covid.
And pretty soon it will literally be on fire...lol gotta love summer..glad I left california. Fire seasons keep getting worse...
@@private6549 the problem is unsubstantiated crap peddled by morons has poisoned public discourse to such an extent that a higher death toll than the entire history of the aids virus occurred in under a year and its still going on. If you ran a video platform and didnt put in an automatic warning on videos mentioning the subject you'd have blood on your hands.
Same with the election. Some idiots have been spreading around that it was stolen resulting in chuds trying to stop it and kill senators in our nation's capitol.
@@private6549 What if you put ''Trump corona virus biden'' in the title?
Yup! Know the feelin': 80% done, just 80% to go.
hahaha
Every car guy ever makes the mistake of saying something will only take an hour and it takes 8
More like 80% done 95% to go.
I think my car is about there right now. It looks all there but nothing is hooked up etc.
@@matthewboggs4639 Remember: "Every quick, thirty minute project is just one broken bolt away from a three-day ordeal."
That Corona is legendary, didn't realize John was the nut responsible for it! Great story, I'm bummed my team will be racing without me this weekend glad to see people keeping the love of racing alive!
"They just wanted to work on a race car...." "Well.... Sorry. I don't have one, but I got this corona" 😄😄😄
John is an absolute legend and the best storyteller. If he told those stories about buying a drug dealers truck or that lame BMW story breaking down on a bridge, it would not only sound believable, but interesting.
Hahahahaha I forgot about the bridge story!
Hey I loved meth bust mini truck
What's the bridge story?
@@Sean-Ax super low bmw hit a pothole on Gw bridge in new york. Blew a coolant line and oil pan ripped off. Port authority showed up, offered to put the bmw on a truck, argued with car owner for almost an hour, car cooled down by the time they were sick of arguing, drove it a mile to a gas station with no address, just GPS coordinates, and the owner and his passenger finally got a tow truck from there. There wasn't enough room in the truck for both owner and passenger, so they had to hide in the bmw while it was on a flatbed truck.
@@paulcarmi8130 Which video was that though?
Also, "super low BMW hits pot hole and destroys oil pan" sounds like my older brother and his 5.35is E28. "Oh, you busted your oil pan? again? are you surprised? I'm not! The streets of New Orleans will not pave themselves for your stupid car!"
Love the expression on his face when he says "Oh I need everything."
This truly is one of the best Vin Wiki car stories I've ever heard and I listened to most of them. Kudos to John and the "Corona" race car team!
I've wanted to race lemons for years, havent had the time to work on something yet but this story really reignited the passion. Definitely also one of my all time favorites!
It's funny you mention the smell of leaded fuel. I was just telling one of the younger guys in the shop that leaded fuel used to smell amazing.
I probably haven't talked about or heard about it in over 10 years, now it's twice in one day LOL
Yeah, it's because you can (If you want to kill brain cells far quicker than by drinking yourself into a stupor) use Lead as an artificial sweetener. The Romans used to use something called "Lead of Sugar".
As for me, I was born in the 1970s, so (thankfully) I missed most of that. However, there's a 66 Corvair Monza sitting rusting on my dad's property that I have to find the time to fix up. Clarks Corvair parts used to sell ceramic valve kit to make the engines run on unleaded.
no kidding eh... any idea around when it started being frowned upon and then was eventually banned?
I'm 32 and clearly remember the sweet smell of gasoline wafting into the old shitbox 81' Cavalier when I was a kid... sooo what's that, 92' to 96'ish? I'm wondering if that was leaded I was smelling...?
forgive me if this is a dumb question, I loooove cars and engineering, but I'm not really a "car guy"
=)
Edit - also, I'm Canadian so we might have gotten rid of it at slightly different times
@@ScumfuckMcDoucheface I don't remember the exact timeline, but the issue began with a scientist trying to figure out the Earth's age using the element Lead of all things. In order to do that, he had to scrub his lab of lead before he could do any measurements... except that every time he cleaned the lab, it was still contaminated with lead. That lead him to realize the lead was coming from the air... and air pollution. The rest is history.
I don't remember leaded smelling good, I remember unleaded smelled terrible. 1986 in Australia.
@@ScumfuckMcDoucheface This made me curious, so I looked into it a little. I'm not sure when new cars in Canada were first required to have catalytic converters--in the US it was the 1975 model year, so I'd be very surprised if your family's '81 Cavalier didn't have one--but it looks like Canada banned leaded gas from sale for on-road automotive use in 1990.
It remained legal to sell at US gas stations until the end of 1995, although by then most stations had long since stopped carrying it for lack of demand. I remember having to buy separate little bottles of lead additive to put in my 1968 Pontiac circa 1991 because no station near me still sold what we used to call regular gas.
I was waiting for the coronavirus part the entire vid, the double entendre went right over my head 🤦🏻♂️
Mine too. It wasn't until Ed started talking that I finally realized haha.
Oh god f#$@ing damnit, I had to scroll down to your comment...
I’m a dumb.
Me too
Oh, OHHHHHH!
I assume that's why it's been retitled.
How do you know they are passionate racers: "weep openly on each other shoulders."
I follow lemons and this is THE iconic car . One of the most badass builds ever . I do love it . Well Done
I'd totally watch a full episode of John's detailing the "cheaty things" the Supra had..
Still would totally watch that episode..
@@temporalmadness3756 I’d totally watch that
Ficarra just raised the bar on Vinwiki episodes!
Lemons, Supra's and ending with a Shovel nose Corona on steroids. a tree, family, kids and Elves man what an epic journey.
Now I want to hear the Corona lol
Me and my twin brother spent 6 months building a 78 Chevy Nova from ground up. plenty of 4 in the mornings and all nighters and EVERY weekend. We finished it just in time for the points season.
If the car got a scratch on it, it was repaired after every race. We had the cleanest and best looking car week after week. More 4 o'clock in the mornings during the week. We didn't cheat at all
But we were meticulous about EVERY detail that was legal to make us run faster. Everything was perfect every week! We even greased the wheelbearings every week and made springs to keep the brake pads off the rotors. We had the best paint jobs and everything else. That was ALOTTTT of hard work!!! We didn't have alot of money, both of us are auto mechanics and spent SO SO SO much time on that car. We missed times with our family's as well. But it really showed on the race tracks. When we went to any track, we were the car you had to beat if you were gonna win a race with us in it. Either my brother drove or I did but for points seasons he raced for points.
Enjoy Ficarra's stories everytime I could hangout with him anytime.
The title is talking about the Toyota Corona but CZcams thinks its talking about the real virus lol
ed's work putting everything together, finding all these people who can tell such good stories! when i hear john tell a story, i get the feeling of excitement and well being. thanks to everyone making it happen!
I love listening to John's stories!!! One of my favorite revolving VINwiki storytellers, hands down.
A recent thrash all night to get some bikes ready to hit the grid makes me appreciate this story even more. It takes my friend being in a deep hole before he'll pick up the phone and scream help but I'm always happy to hang out with him and work on stuff. Great story.
John I love your style, the amount of times I've watched a vinwiki story & said my mother had one of those & today John rolls out this monstrosity & it's the 1st car I remember my mother owning, your a madman & I love the way you think, Rj in Oz
Anyone else feel this way?: When I first got into the channel, I was annoyed by not seeing who was telling the story on the thumbnail, but now I know the regulars well enough to play a little guessing game when I see the title and thumbnail. This one had Ficarra written all over it.
A '68 Corona was my second new car...and that two-speed transmission drove me crazy. Drive for an hour around 90 mph, then get into city limits and slow down, and you suddenly end up sitting there going absolutely nowhere for a couple of minutes until it cooled down. Wasn't a bad city car, and for it's time was quite a nice ride. Brings back memories......
This is one of the best VINwiki videos to date.
John puts so much detail into his story’s!!! Amazing car!!! Amazing episode!!!
Here’s hoping he will be back with stories of this car next year. And all the crazy shenanigans he and his team went through.
Such awesome and wholesome car stories!
A delight listening to this. A 20-year old 1970 Corona was my first car at 17 and I absolutely loved it. Super reliable and used it for all sorts of stuff.
John Ficarra's story telling is like the gravitational pull for car enthusiasts who love a wholesome feel good story🙂.
In his stories , he almost always blends in some technical know how, a sprinkle of history ,a dash of drama, and a dose of action. He's never going too heavy or too light with his story telling, just right 👌🏿.
Made my day to listen to John Ficarra doing another yarn. I would listen to him tell his whole story over many hours. Another great story and gave credit where it was due. Fantastic
Brilliant video, I almost never watch long CZcams videos but I followed every minute of this. Great story and great storytelling
He is my new favorite story teller. Between him, Casey, and Rabbit and Ed I'm set. Thank you for sharing.
This guy gives my favorite Rob Pitts a definite run for his money
John you’re an awesome story teller. Keep the stories coming 👍🏽
Making our Mondays this much better, thanks John
Enjoyed the tale - drove a ‘64 Corona “Deluxe” in high school, likely the first Toyota in an East Texas town! Fun car, tiny engine, three on the tree! Good times!
Old fool. Leave the world.
@@ClinicalDecisionYikesYTWow! Who raised you to be this disrespectful of others? Are you this rude to your parents and friends? Likely you don’t have any friends acting like this! If your parents were aware of your behavior, they would definitely be ashamed of you, and of their own lack of parenting skills.
I was commenting on some fond memories, and you show you to be a Class-A JERK!
To add to my comment, I cannot imagine why that model was “Deluxe,” it was minimalistic
(That means, ifid, that it was stripped down) 3 on the tree, no radio, no A/C, lack sidewall tires.
Of course, you too are ashamed of yourself as you are unwilling to show your real name!
The more story’s he tells/appearances ,the more I see he is a true gentleman..
Thanks for sharing 💯👊
Always love when I see VinWiki uploaded a new video I know this will be a good one😎
Yes! My favorite story teller...besides of course Mr Ed Bolian.
Comfortably a top 10 VINwiki car story of all time.
Mr. Ficarra is definitely my favorite vin wiki story teller and also has the types of stories I want
One of the best stories on the channel ever, well done.
The best story teller on VinWiki. John is the king of stories.
This story had EVERYTHING. So good.
John tell his stories with such a passion and love for cars is very touching! One my favorite storytellers from vinwiki!
23mins of John?! Best way to start the week
Ironically I happen to be sitting across the street from the Sonoma raceway while watching this.
Your sitting in a field?
@@liammoodyfilms A winery, next to that field, next to the raceway. I’m looking at the track while watching the video.
There are houses sitting back there! I always go back to Sac the Napa way and I notice houses and wineries to the right of me. I go to the track on 37, but hell no I am not going to sit in that parking lot on the way home.
@@justinhurst5937 Dude I live in Sonoma County, I had no idea John was from around here.
Does this lemons race happen every year at Infineon or what? I need to check it out!!!
Love racing with these guys. Love hearing the stories.
His stories are incredible. Keep them coming!
So awesome. People don't get how important just having moral support is on these projects. Just having a friend around to hand you a wrench, or run to the hardware store, or hold up the other end for a minute is a HUGE help. Every additional pair of hands cuts the time-to-completion by leaps and bounds and lowers the stress by half. Sometimes it's as simple as having another pair of eyeballs to catch the stupid mistake, sometimes it's just the assurance of being on hand to call 911("Hold my beer"). So if you have a friend working on a project car, grab a couple of cold brews and drop by after work once a week. It's important.
And for life in general, sigh 😅
Man I enjoy John's stories so much!
This guy has such great stories and I enjoy every single one keep going on this guy is great
A great way to start a raining Monday. Another great story from John! Thanks Ed
I love a lot of these stories but this one is now my favorite!
The last 2 minutes and 50 seconds of the story had me in tears 😭 amazing stuff thanks 🙏
What an ending to the story John!
So humble!
I loved this, this is just great story telling!!! truly enjoyed spending 20 mins in your world! thanks!
John is the best story teller on here. Rabbit is second. Switch cars Doug is third. Ed is in his own league tho.
Ed is just built different
Christopher micheal has some amazing stories and he’s super personable like John is
Christopher is up there too. His stories are by far the most entertaining
@@cloudgummykasi7642 yeah, Ed can inhale through his ass so it makes it possible for him to string those words for 15 minutes at a time without let up.
My favorite story guy just keeps having more stories!
1st car I ever bought at a dealer was a '72 Corona that I bought in November 1985. GREAT car. Very reliable. Boring, but reliable.
I could listen to John's stories all day long....his are the best
I’m old enough to remember the smell of car exhaust from leaded fuel and I agree - It’s a lovely smell.
Now, I have my pilot’s licence and when I first got a waft of exhaust from a plane burning 100LL, it took me straight back to my childhood.
Early! Plus it's Ficarra!! Life is good.
One of the greatest story tellers! Love his vids!
Those early Toyotas & Datsuns were popular being close to Port of Entry in So Cal.. Row upon row of them in Pedro' awaiting shipping across the country. As we saw them on a Sunday scenic drive where dad hauled freight during the week. Still a massive sight today!
Love John's stories. The internet needs more Ficara!
Best story teller on this channel
quite honestly I truly loved this show. it captured my mind and interest from when I was very young when I too spent more time building my own vehicles from scratch with no instructions other then the parts saying ford on them. incredible story ty it was amazing.
What a great, and inspiring story! Thank you John, and Ed!
I don’t see how the Supra having a 1jz was cheating since some of the third gen Supra’s over in Japan actually came with a 1jz gte. I say if it was a option for the car, regardless of the country it was sold in it’s not cheating.
500$ limit. 800$ motor...
Love this guy's stories. Best part was the "elves". It gives me hope for the future.
I dont understand how John is such a good storyteller
Some people just know how to tell stories just like some people can just sing or anything, they just can, but he is great at it.
When you love what you do you will love to talk about it. Ficara loves his cars because he loves to work on his cars.
Bring car trek to VinWiki!! Tavarish and Hoovie bring in the teenage audience but this is where the real automotive experts flood in from.

at around the same time my grandparents got a new car...an 80 corolla.i can remember my grandfather who was in his 70s ...i was gonna help him do the first oilchange......it took me a long time to find the oil filter....!So much stuff packed into such a small space.what a difference 10 years had made.
i really love the simplicity of older cars and trucks
My dad had bought a 71 Toyota carina from a customer and it was the first car I drove after turning 16 and getting my license. It was purple but faded and looked more brown, it had the big hemi four cylinder and a 4 speed manual transmission. For a sixteen year old it was a fun little car.
This was not only the greatest car story I have ever listened to but this corona ist also one of the most brilliant cars I have ever seen
Yesss!! I remember this car from the Ferrari story. Gotta love John

Years ago I saw an old Corolla like yours modified to look somewhat like a modified stock car for the street. The body was sectioned and lowered and maybe widened to fit big wide tires. It was awesome.
Mr. Ficarra, if you happen to see this comment. Thank you for this story that is awesome. One piece of the story I’m really interested in is the don’t ask don’t tell livery supra. Did you chop it up to build this car? Is there a place i can see more pictures of it?
