    I’m “upgrading” my center stone from a round brilliant to an OEC because I love the color and character of old stones. This video was super helpful for when I go sit and compare stones at the jeweler!

    I don't disagree Carrie. Unfortunately I have to shoot these during work hours and it's equally annoying to me when I'm shooting too. If there is anything you'd like me to clarify or expound upon let me know. We are in fact looking into building a small studio in our store solely for the video production actually.

    I’ve been given an antique ring with a big diamond which I think is an OEC . Been in the family for years and really need someone to have. A look at it, but unfortunately don’t have a jewellers near me to take it to. Would you be able to have a look at it if I even sent you pictures?

      Sure, we'll take a look at it. Feel free to email matt@goodoldgold.com with those picture and we'll go from there..

    I know this is a pretty old video, but can you comment on the culet size of the stones? The first stone almost appears to have no culet where the second seems to have a small one and the third slightly larger? Could this contribute to the stones sparkle?

    • @DiamondInfoMan

      +Zoie Stratiou Thanks for your questions. Reviewing it back it appears the first one has either a "small/medium" culet, the second diamond a "large" culet and the third "very large". Regarding sparkle though ... nope. The culet is actually a point of light leakage but is generally so small that it doesn't impact the light performance that much. I happen to be one of the only sources of the "new" European cuts and have patented the optical design of the worlds first Ideal European cut and have cut them both with and without culets. I've named the line "August Vintage". No serious impact on sparkle either way frankly but your question is appreciated. The type and quality of sparkle in a diamond is really dependent upon the proportion factors, the amount of facets and the lower halves. You may want to watch my video on "Understanding the Lower Half Facets" if you'd like to see a good study in the various types of sparkle you can see in diamond.

    Do some of the old diamonds not bleep on the tester machine ? Or do all diamonds bleep

    • @DiamondInfoMan
      @DiamondInfoMan  Před 3 lety

      That's a good question.. They should all "bleep" regardless of their age.

    I love mine cut diamonds . I don't care for old European cut . We looked everywhere for a 5 carat mine cut with no luck . So we went with the latest cut 5 carat solitaire. The mine cut seems to be hard to find ? I would like someone to tell me are they buying up the mine cut ???

    • @DiamondInfoMan

      Similar to most branded diamonds, Old Mine Cut's are indeed more difficult to find compared to some of the more modern cut diamonds out there. I ran a search and we have 5ct old mine cushions to offer. So if you are ever in the market again, feel free to reach out to us if you would like our assistance!

      HI AGAIN . I was hoping to see if their is anyway to show me some old mine cut . I want a 5 carat but a 4 carat will do if you can't find a 5 carat mine cute . I don't mind if it has a little yellowish to the color . I just like that cut . My sister Katherine has a 6 carat old European cut . I don't like that cut because the table always looks small .I'm not a jeweler but have been around long enough to know what I don't like ! Can you work with me on fixing this ? I have my big 10 years coming up . I don't want to spend a fortune so the diamond does not have to be of high grade . I just had a necklace made & all the diamonds are J-K-L in color & its stunning ! Thank you & will be waiting to hear from you . Thanks Michael N

    Trying to learn something here - but the awful background noise makes it difficult, not to say, annoying attempting to listen. Shame.
    Might have been better if you have made the videos when the shop was closed.
