  • Sandra Richter is the Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont College. Richter earned her PhD from Harvard University’s Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations Department and her MA in Theological Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. She has taught at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY, Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, MS and Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Due to her passion for the "real space and time" of the biblical text, she has spent many of those years directing an Israel Studies program focused on historical geography and field archaeology. She is in high demand as a speaker in an array of academic and lay settings, and has been recently appointed to the NIV translation committee.

I am impressed at her level of knowledge about ancient cultures. Her talks are just fascinating and help me understand my Bible so much better.

Love this but it would’ve been helpful to see the images Sandra shared during the lecture..

Still very grateful for the lecture but yes, it would have been helpful. Some are shown but it's rather erratic.

They assumed the title of the ideal priesthood because they were astrologers? Obsessed with the movement of heavenly bodies as doings of divine beings.

Ezekiel for example satirises it with the vision of the one as ruler of the cosmos

I mean, Nippur was a leverage to observe the sun, moon and stars, and thus, "the kingship descended from heaven.' A primordial practical and sacred knowledge

Here is the Will of the Lord!
"11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
    1 Timothy 2:10-14 (KJV)
The corrupted and God-dishonoring "Devil and his angels" will do the very opposite as we plainly see in our above example.

Earnestly contending for…, why don’t you just go away? You believe what? That people are going to hell because they understand the Truth and you don’t?
