    This is the 5th or 6th video (and most enjoyable one for me) Lou has done of my AMC collection that features all 5 of the factory Red, White and Blue muscle cars. Amazingly, you could walk into an American Motors dealership and buy one of the Red, White and Blue AMC cars right off the dealership floor in 1969 and 1970. To the best of my knowledge, this unique group of AMC muscle is the only one in existence that has all 5 AMC amazing AMC factory Red, White and Blue cars in a single collection. Thank you Lou for doing such a great job covering the SS AMX #52, American Dream, the last SS AMX out of the 52 made.

    Brings back memories! Back in ‘79 when I was 14, while visiting a local junkyard the owner’s son had one of these. He said 50 from Hurst built… close enough! It was in primer grey and no engine. He did have the cross ram and a 401 out of an Ambassador was being built for it. He got it for $800 and was installing a cage as at the time 11:99 and faster required it. I still remember that hood scoop! 😎👍

    My first job back in 1976 was assistant new car detailer at a Chevy dealership. I fell in love with a 68 390 4spd AMX on the used car lot, and I tried to buy it.
    I was told they wouldn't sell it to me because they didn't want to kill an 18 year old kid.
    I ended up with a 390 Mustang and I'm still here.
    Not so sure I'd have survived a little monster like that AMX.

    That 1969 AMC AMX is bad to the bone! The AMX was an underrated muscle car, but they still held their own. Most of the AMX package cars were equipped with the 390 cubic inch engine with the 4-speed manual transmission. A few had the 343 engine, with the automatic transmission. There's no way that the AMX featured in this video would ever be street legal in Missouri due to the safety inspection. I'm surprised that he hasn't burned up the valves in that 390 with those open headers. A very interesting car Lou. Nice to be able to see and hear that AMX perform. Nice to see you outside again!

    • @dancurtis3425
      @dancurtis3425 Před rokem

      Michael, actually less than half the 68-70 AMX has the 390 and a 4 spd. Regardless, this is a true factory race car that was never intended to be on the street (we cheated by brining to a new construction community road that had no residential traffic) so it lacks all sorts of federally mandated safety items. As for valves, most race cars run open long tube headers same as this one plus they would usually get torn down and freshened up after a year or two of competition so there was never any real concern about burning the big 2.08 intake and 1.74 stainless one piece exhaust valves. The heads on every SS AMX were fully ported, CCd and polished plus set up with adjustable rockers for racing by Crane.

    1969 AMC AMX.
    The American Motors Corporation AMX (AMC AMX) was introduced to hilariously compete with the Chevrolet Corvette (C2 and C3 Corvette) and was based on the AMC Javelin. The most powerful engine in the AMC AMX was the 390 cubic inch (6.4 Litre) V8 that made either 315 HP, 325 HP, or 340 HP (It depended on the model years, 1970 was the most powerful), which was also the same displacement that was featured on the 1964-1967 Pontiac GTO, but only made 335 HP and 390 LB-FT of Torque. The amount of torque it made was in the mid 400s. The front end of the AMX had duo headlights (One headlight on each side), a uniquely designed grille that had a vertical-horizontal line pattern along with the "AMX" badge that could either be colored gray or the same colors as the company's colors (Red, White, and Blue). The car also had a coke-bottle style, an AMC badge surrounded by a gray circle, a sloped window, and rectangular taillights with another "AMX" badge in the middle. The car also had two stripes going from the front to the end, giving it a sportier appearance.
    The AMC AMX also introduced the "Go" Package, which was also introduced on the AMC "AMX" Javelin, which had a sportier design and only had the AMC 360 cubic inch (5.9 Litre) and 390 cubic inch engines (6.4 Litre). For 1970, the car's front, sides, and rear end were redesigned. The front end featured a grille that covered the front-end with a horizontal line pattern (With the middle lines being silver), an "AMX badge in the middle of the grille", repositioned/resized headlights along with two extra headlights (High-Beam Headlights), a hood scoop with two intakes, vents on the bottom sides of the car, and redesigned rectangular-shaped taillights, each being split by a gray line, but still had the AMC AMX badge in the middle of the middle taillight, which were all designed by Dick Teague. The car was also sold as the Rambler AMX in Australia from 1968-1970.

    I used to drive taxi cabs for the Livonia, Michigan outfit. All of their cabs were patched-up Caprices. They only did just enough, so that they would move from A to Z. If my assigned cab had had that driveshaft loop installed, I wouldn't have quit the day the U-joint crapped out. When those do disconnect behind the transmission tail, there's hardly anything more scary.
    It's gratifying to know that crossram manifolds were available for AMCs.
    It sounds like he's got a little point float going on there

      This car was basket case when I took possession and it took over 3 years to bring it back to life. Thankfully I own a shop that restores these cars so we did all the work in house rather than paying a shop to do it. Had I not had the shop with the experience and parts to bring this car back to life it would have been way out of my reach to pay someone else to do the three years of work it took to revive the car.
