Ardent cricket fans will never ever forget this Final. proud moment for all of us. Kaif and Yuvi becomes immortal after this. And yes Yuvi goes and become the legend.
Yuvi is the true example of an under-rated cricketer who people forget to mention when they talk about legends of our game. Everyone only mention fab 5 of early 200s like Dada, Viru, Sachin, The Wall and VVS and then later Dhoni, Virat & Rohit Sharma.
But Yuvi is the only one who was present during Natwest Final, 2007 Final and 2011 Final. True legend of our game
This is the generation that changed the cricket of our times and yes thanks to dada 🙂

@@rudrashaw5695 Absolutely. I can see many parallels between Captain Russell and Nasser Hussain 😉
But in all seriousness...now that I look back...this game seems special in more ways than one. 2001-02 was when the India-England rivalry hit a proper high considering the "India-born" Nasser Hussain was the England captain (and as you said, Lagaan being released the previous year). In 2001, England toured India. So much was made of Nasser Hussain returning to the land of his birth...the media coverage was insane.
However, seeing Nasser's captaincy before the tour and observing his attitude afterwards, I am so glad England lost the game. I have noticed that Nasser Hussain plays up his Indian side as per convenience (singing India's praises while visiting India, claiming how proud he is of his Indian roots in front of an Indian audience, etc).
But, when he is in England, the situation seems completely different.
As England captain, he has never liked British Asians supporting their country of origin. He has made it clear that British Asians should support England. Conversely, the British Asian community does not look at him as their role model.
Basically, he puts out two different personas in India and England...and that is what I don't like about him.

he played a match winning knocks in pakistan as well and that helped win the series! they had a better attack.
both victories at foreign soil and kaif also had great success in world cup along with yuvi. they both laid foundation for india to dominate later in the 2000's after arrival of dhonis and rainas of the world.
but kaif will go down as the best 2 fielders india ever produced. he is pipped only by one JADEJA!

Those were the days...Cricket used to be more exciting and had a passion for watching with great enthusiasm ... Natwest series 2002 was more than an emotion for all Indians...and youngsters back then... I still remember coming from tuition for my board exams and watched it with great pride and dada smashed Flintoff off by waving his shirt off in Lord's balcony with aggression and pride... Golden memories...

I was 12 that time, I still remember my grandma was so furious, she locked herself in washroom after Sachin's wicket. She came out after 10-15 minutes when Yuvi and kaif were playing good. She was chanting Gayatri Mantra to make sure no wicket falls. She was extremely passionate about cricket. I miss her.

I truly wants to thank Flintoff for whatever he has done for us 🙏🙏.
He was the reason for this moment and Yuvraj's 6 sixes. He is one of the best well wishers of indian team 😂😂😂😂
