The 1997 Academy Award winning rendition of the events that took place directed by James Cameron is one of the closest we have to understanding what happened that fateful day. To mark the 25th Anniversary of Titanic movie release, in this episode of Xplained we take a look at the timeline of the Titanic and how the movie was filmed.

The most dramatic tear jerker movie I’ve seen in long time. Lots of viewers said they made so many mistakes. Oh who cares! For me it was just perfect!

Former marine CH. Engineer here: Is not hard to believe that there were not drills or enough lifeboats as SOLAS was implemented after the Titanic disaster. Shipowner only implement things after they are enforced by regulations.

More lifeboats were needed but would have needed more davits to launch them as they barely had enough time to launch the boats they had.
What was needed is more more rules, regulations and procedures to safely operate ships like stopping or going slow at night during ice, traveling in groups of ships and many other things. If I owned a shipping company back then I would have made 2 ship’s travel together and use that for marketing as a safety measure or maybe have a small ship traveling a few miles ahead. We can blame whatever but at the end of the day if the ship didn’t hit an iceberg it wouldn’t have sank and back then many ships sank because they weren’t being safe.
It wasn’t that they didn’t have enough tine to launch them, it was just that they weren’t using their time very efficiently.

When. Ballards videos were shown you can clearly see the word Olympic where Titanic should have been the White Star line welded the ships names but after the workers returned the two ships that were docked side by side the two ships were in eachothers berths and metal name plates were placed over the welded names.

Where to start....1. You got the death toll wrong 1496 deaths and 712 survivors. 2. Titanic carried 4 more lifeboats than the legally required amount, a cluttered deck was not the main concern. While the ship COULD hold up to 64 boats there was no plan to actually install that many. 3. Coal fires were also common at the time and no evidence suggested that Titanic's had anything to do with the sinking, it was also extinguished the day before 4. Binnoculars were NOT for spotting objects ahead, they were for confirming a sighted object b/c usinging them alone would have narrowed the lookouts field of view. 5. Yes many ice warnings were received, but it was common to maintain course and speed under those conditions in 1912...ironically conditions on the night were TOO perfect (moonless, calm and possible mirage) and hid the iceberg until it was too close. 6. Boat drills were for one or two teams of select crewman, not for everyone on board. Seriously there is well over a century's worth of research out there, getting this many basic things wrong is beyond comprehension.
Well you have a movie that claimed to be true but is full of Hollywood lies. It's crazy cause most of my life I thought the sketch of rise was really found down there. Never even existed tho, was drawn by Cameron himself.
Binoculars woulda helped them in this case to.... The iceberg was straight ahead of them. The only direction they'd need to be looking.
@@Blazeww oml, they never claimed to be true, they just made the movie vaguely accurate with what they had in 1996-1997 and added a love story in-between. And binoculars are useless, Frederick Fleet said that he only the iceberg as a dark shape, he just connected the dots to recognize an iceberg. Again, M O O N L E S S N I G H T

@@1dylan596 actually when they advertised that it's based on true events that is kinda saying that. Most probably believed the fake ove story and as a child missed how it was the actress in the drawing to. So YOU'RE half right...
Tho these days it's easy to see how the based on true events lable is loosely based on the events as some movies based on "True Events" have invisible demons breaking someone's neck or terrifying people. Things we would probably want to know about if they were actually based on things that happened....
Yeah the required amount of like fe boats for smaller ship with less people on it.... There were never enough lifeboats onboard for the number of people and regulations hadn't caught up with the at the time largest ship to set sail.
It didn't rip holes into the side but underneath the ship on the bottom.

It wasn't the Titanic that sank but the Olympic. The name plates were switched for insurance purposes.

They were not 100% identical and the Olympic was always in such a rush to get back into service following her collision with the HMS Hawke that there is absolutely no way she could’ve had done what she would’ve needed to have done in order to be perfectly disguised as the Titanic.

The reason why the captain never slowed down, they never had enough coal for the whole journey because of the fire. It was believed they would have had to coast the last 5 miles into New York.
That is simply not true, the ship had more then enough coal with large reserves. They just simply stopped using coal from other coal bunkers in that boiler room and prioritized use from the one that had a smoldering fire.
And back in the day all captains would go as fast as they can in the early part of the voyages so they have something in hand incase they have bad weather or fog and have to slow down.

The reason why the it sank is because it was going to fast to turn for the iceberg. They saw it but couldn’t turn. As my descendant Bruce made the captain go full speed to get to New York a day early
Bruce Ismay had no influence on the captain's decisions and the ship was not at full speed.
The guy with the key for the binocular cabinet ended up not going and forgot to give them the key back.... Titanic could've avoided it if they had that key. They shoulda just broken the thing open.....

The whole love story was made up... Tho like the book that oddly was written right before the tragedy that matched it perfectly excluding a few details...... There were two people of those names on the ship. Rise was wealthy and Jack won his job in the boiler room where they think he actually died as him and Rose most likely never met at all. And the sketch everyone probably thinks is real is actually not and was never actually found on the Titanic. Purely for the movie and to draw in the audience....
So they think we care so little that they needed a hook and take live story as there were actual lovers that died and lost someone..... Hollywood ignored the real pain of people and fabricated a live story so we would watch the movie.... That's messed up..
bro what are you talking about. They didn't just put effort on Jack and Rose's love story, they put effort on the interiors, the real passenger's and their actions. They got almost every single detail about it. Do you think they would've added such detail if they wanted to make a Romeo and Juliette cash-grab?

Brother, do you really think that is even possible? They were the biggest ships afloat, do you think they would've noticed? Also, Titanic heavily differs from Olympic, and no, not even the insurance covered the full cost of the ship. Titanic was underinsured, they would've lost a lot of money.
