Best scooter tyre??? - Michelin City Grip 2

  • The final and most important part of winterizing my scooter. The tires. With over 27000km done on Michelin's City Grip 2 on my old Symphony ST through all kinds of weather and road surfaces (that includes crossing rivers) and never leaving me wanting more, I decided to slap them on my current Symphony ST to see if they still deliver the performance I remember. And oh yea, they haven't disappointed me and I am glad I decided to stick with the Michelin City Grip 2 as the tyre of choice for my scooter.

    Very , very good presentation ! I have always been a Michelin fan since 50 years . If you know their story you would be one too . It starts with the steel cable used in all their tires . No other mfg. has the knowledge to make tiny diameter CABLE as opposed to simply wire rope . Michelin has the valuable patent and the highly secret technique in fabricating this small diameter cable which gives all Michelin tires their world leading strength . Point #2 is that all Michelin road tires are first and foremost designed to be absolutely the best , safest in the rain . That in a nutshell is why I only put Michelin on all my motos and cars as well .

    • @RideWithAlex
      @RideWithAlex  Před 2 lety +3

      I did not know about the steel cable part, and in terms of the their performance i too firstly look for the rain performance because that's when you really need to be able to trust your tires, when you get caught in a rainstorm far away from home and you want to make it home safely.

      2016 Sym HD 200 with 4 year old Michelin City Grips, balanced, etc. Question: Why when I hit a bump in the road and not even a serious bump, seconds later I will feel the bars / front end start doing a kind of mild weaving action. Is the air in the front tire(s) going through some re-settling or something like that? The City Grips installed in 2019 at 13k miles. Current miles at 20k. Time for new tires?

    • @alexandrosmp1
      @alexandrosmp1 Před rokem +1

      @@crow01098 I no longer have the jet x. The reason is a long story, but at the end of this month, I'm getting the SYM HD 300. The top box in the back is what you're referring to which did not make a difference. Whether I had it on or off the tires that came from the factory do not last very long. when I put the Michelin city grip 2 The behavior of the vehicle changed quite a bit for the better! Aerodynamically it is my opinion that the box in the back makes a bit of a difference, but nothing noticeable. Having a top box in the back does not determine whether or not you need to change the tires on the bike. Behavior of the bike specifically the unsteady handlebars is your indication that you need to change your tires. Some more expensive bikes may come with Michelin's or Melingers, so that is encouragement enough to spend a little bit more money and get that more expensive bike that has those tires. specifically for the SYM Jet X you need to go to your dealer (or do iy yourself if able and so inclined) and get the special plate for the particular model bike in order to mount a top box. Beware that the top box compatible with the monolock plate is a monolock top box. Hope this helps.

    +1 for the City Grip 2-s, I have it as factory-fitted tyres on my current 300 scooter, they are very good. I had the City Grip 1-s on my Honda PCX before, ride it for 6 years, it was perfect, and it had nearly no sign of wear after 20k km-s.

    I don't know the exact specifications of the stock tires on my Jet14 125cc, but they should be CST standard. Overall, I am happy with them, but the handling in corners feels like it happens in two stages. It's hard to describe, but it's as if you have to overcome a small barrier before leaning further. Do any of you guys experience this too? I've only ridden on these CS tires and one new set of Pirelli AngelCity tires(on my KTM Duke200) , so I don't have many comparisons. However, I'm planning to try Michelin or Dunlop tires next. I've had a great experience with Dunlop RT tires on my car about eight years ago or more.

    Deși m-am informat destul de temeinic înainte să aleg City Grip 2, tot am mai aflat din clipul ăsta câteva chestii pe care nu le știam.
    Fiindcă am rulat doar 200km cu anvelopele originale de pe HD300 și numai pe vreme caldă și uscat, nu mă pot pronunța asupra diferențelor. Dar știind de la alții că City Grip sunt de calitate, m-a ajutat să prind curaj să înclin mai mult scuterul în curbe și să merg și pe vreme ploioasă și rece. Încă sunt excesiv de precaut când întâlnesc zone care par umede iar temperatura este aproape de 0 grade, dar ăsta cred că e un obicei bun indiferent cât de șmechere sunt anvelopele pe care le ai.
    Merita menționat în clip sistemul bizar de marcaj al rotației la City Grip, poate mai ajung și alții să creadă că li s-au montat greșit anvelopele în service.
