    Good evening! And thank you very much for tuning in for this walk around the heart of Pitlochry! A gorgeous town with some wonderful architecture and even more wonderful sights :)
    However, while we walked through much of the town centre, we didn't get the chance to walk out onto the River Tummel. As we mentioned, Pitlochry Dam and the artificial loch are highlights of the river scenery, but over towards Port-na-Craig, you'll also find a smattering of pubs, as well as a huge theatre located on the hillside - the Pitlochry Festival Theatre! So, if you're in town, you can also head over there after taking a stroll and browse in the town centre :)

      I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Queen Victoria was certainly right when she declared her love for the area, and as you mention it's a wonderful escape into the outskirts of the Highlands, even through a computer screen :)
      Thank you so much for watching!

    I think there are two famous distilleries in Pitlochry ... A townwalk is incompled without mention it,

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  Před 2 lety +1

      You're absolutely right! The distilleries are just another fantastic way to spend your time in Pitlochry, it just goes to show how much there is to see and do in the town :)
      Thank you so much for watching and for your helpful comment :)

    Greetings from South Africa!
    I lived in this gorgeous town in the early 2000's for a year and went back in 2012 to visit it again.
    It will remain one of my most beloved places in the world, such a beautiful town with really amazing people!
    Your video was so lovely and it felt like I was walking there again, however I would have enjoyed more! There are so much more to see...will be waiting for an update.
    Many thanks!

    Most enjoyable - thank you. I visited Pitlochry back in 1980-something, for a wedding. We took the train from London. It is a very attractive town, as your beautifully-shot video shows. I remember the stunning view from the dining room window at breakfast, across the loch - spectacular scenery. I bought a tartan skirt (Black Watch) being of Scottish descent - probably from the Highland Dress shop which, sadly, appears to have closed. I must try to make a return visit as it is a beautiful area. Thanks so much.

      @LetsWalkUK  Před 2 lety +1

      That sounds like it was a lovely trip! And I hope you've still got the kilt, especially if the shop you bought it from has closed, that makes it a slightly rarer item :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm really glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you get the chance to return one day!

    I can remember of this Scottish Souvenir Shop at the beginning of this video , and i have buy two postcards , the one with pictures from Pitlochry and the other was a picture from Glamis Castle , one of my favorite Castle in Scotland , where the legend says it will be haunted ! We have a short stay in Pitlochry , and after that , we had a ride to our hotel in Aviemore !

      Ha ha you're certainly braver than me - haggis really doesn't sound like my cup of tea! But I'm sure in Pitlochry it was of the highest standard - it's a town that caters to visitors just exquisitely :)

      @@LetsWalkUK I was a little surprised with the ingredients that goes into Haggis!
      Especially with living next door to a farm where in spring time we see all those dear little lambs bouncing around.
      All butchers across Scotland seem to have their own secret ingredient added to it too.

    You’ve done it again, another great walk where we’ve been.
    We had a couple of midweek breaks at the Pitlochry Hydro in November 2017 and again in March 2019 but strangely only had a walk round the village once.
    We did manage to explore a lot of that side of Scotland though, including visiting filming locations of Outlander the first time and Culloden and Fort George the second as well as other places.
    As I think I’ve said before we got to know the A9 very well.

    • @LetsWalkUK
      @LetsWalkUK  Před 2 lety

      How interesting! The A9 is probably the most spectacular main road in Britain, and the fact that it gives you such easy access to places like Pitlochry, Culloden and more makes it all the more special! I must visit Culloden and Fort George one day - they're both fascinating homes of history :)
      Thank you so much for watching - I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and that it brought back a few memories of Pitlochry for you!

      @@LetsWalkUK Yep. I remember a very pleasant holiday in Pitlochry as a kid. More recently, it's somewhere I would sometimes stop, if using the A9 - decent chippie and easy parking. We'd usually avoid it in high season though - full of coach tours.😁
      You mentioned the salmon ladder. As a kid, I stood for ages in the viewing room beneath water level and never saw a thing. Grim determination made me return a few times over the years and eventually, my persistence paid off. It's quite a sight to see and the sheer size of these fish can be quite surprising.

    I enjoy your videos immensly but occasionally have to take issue with your interpretations of history and the emphasis you place on events. You talk about General Wade's roads in fairly neutral terms but their purpose and impact was far from benign. They were built to allow the British Government easier access to the highlands where they could control and subdue (often violently) the local population. These were not roads built to open up the highlands for trade or tourism. They were military roads built for military purposes and they played a significant role in altering the highland way of life.
