When you take them off with the q tip it’s best to dip it in alcohol otherwise you are not killing it and the eggs😮

I normally use alcohol for getting rid of mealies but since they kept coming back on these particular plants I thought I'd try something new this time and see what happens. 😀

The most important thing is to be patient and spray them regularly, it takes time 😞 Thanks for sharing 🍃🤍

I take them off with a q tip dipped in alcohol and then spray with a 1-2% mixture of mineral oil in water with a small squirt of dish soap. It effectively smothers pests but you must leave it on and not wash off. I got this from miss orchid girl for use on my orchids. The ones with thick cuticles get 2% but for thinner leafed plants I use 1%. I actually use this for all of my plants - not just orchids. I also use captain jacks dead bug brew if I don’t have the oil solution available. I should also add that with the oil solution - since I’m usually indoors with my plants- I Turn in the fan to help with drying.

Hi! What a nuisance those mealies are! I no longer have that issue. I use systemic only when there's mealies or any pest. When the leaves are infected, I take out of pot (not large plants!) and soak in water with hydrogen peroxide for 30 minutes. Then spray w/neem. When it's time to water I add a little hydrogen peroxide. This has worked after trial and error with my hoyas. But roots/soil must be treated as well. Thanks for sharing! Dee, LI, NY

The defense against them is to be persistent with treatments and you are doing it 👍🏼 Another great vid!

Mealies are such a nuisance however I’ve been using the Bonide systemic granules every 2-3 months and haven’t had a problem with mealies so far. However it is quite laborious and expensive when you have as many plants as many of us have.

Omg those bugs are huge. You need to spray the undersides of the leaves. A good tip is to use an art paint brush dipped in the solution to get down in those creases.

    1) where’d you get the pot the prostrata is in?
    2) since that one is giving you so much trouble, you could try the Chinese perfume plant. Similar vibes, inexpensive, low maintenance, nice smelling blooms

What is the Sophora prostrata potted in? If it is very gritty, consider adding some peat or compost. Avoid turface :)
Mealybugs are SO annoying, they seem to randomly appear on my plants. They always seem to know the favorite plants.

Sorry, I cannot watch this video because I can't take having to see those things. I've found the "Liqui-Dirt, LLC video which shows how to get rid of ALL houseplant pests. It is the absolute best and least expensive. You use items you may already have, and it doesn't involve using Neem at all. He explains what each item does and why. Best part is IT DOESN'T HARM ANY SPECIES OF PLANT. I've used it in my garden as well.

Good Morning. Sorry about your ordeal with mealies. We have enough stress without bugs in our plants.
One treatment I know give instant result with mealies is pure alcohol.
If the plants is heavily infested and worth saving, you remove it from the soil wash it top to bottom with water spray with pure alcohol or slightly diluted alcohol then repot it.
Edit: For plant with many nooks and crannies/ hidden crevasses , I am not sure how you would rid the plant of them

    • @mypetitegarden
      @mypetitegarden  Před rokem +1

I normally treat mealies with alcohol but since it kept coming back for these particular plants I thought I'd give something else a try. Luckily they are never too heavily infested & the plants usually don't seem too bothered by it. It's a continuous battle as a plant parent 😆.

As the PP isn't grown for its flowers, you could treat with a systemic. This would eradicate them without endangering bees or pollinators. Just stay conscious of cutting off any flowers that might grow. I hate mealies. Not as much as I hate root mealies, but I still hate them! I would depot and check out the roots of the plant with little leaves (forget its name). I saw what looked like a mealie amongst the top dressing. Ugh, horrible creatures.
