Stallone's monologue at the end is fantastic.
The sad and true reality of how vets are treated after serving their country. I see commercials on TV for Wounded Warriors and the like and wonder why the government isn't taking care of these guys who put their lives on the line. What a complete and total injustice. 😕
Literally was jaw-dropping, and that is why this monologue was so perfectly executed. Nobody saw it coming yet it changed everything in how people would look back at this movie. A powerful testimony for the pain that so many veterans suffer. They fought and suffered so hard just to get home, only to come back to a country that has turned their backs on them.
My uncle did three tours in Vietnam, was wounded three times and discharged, and went from job to job until he re-enlisted in the navy, did 20 years, made master chief. He didn't expect to go back into the military, but it was the only world he could function in.
My dad is retired SF...he fell 80' in 1980 when i was 3 months old....they didnt think he'd ever walk again. 43 yrs later he has 27 horses and still takes care of them....on his feet.
He also had ptsd although it didnt define him. He graduated college in his 30's with a 4.0 even though he didnt graduate high school. Tough and resilient!
Ol Sly seems like he has been in a few brawls outside movies, that foot sweep was slick.
This film reminds me of the saying - Be kind by default to people, as you don't know of the war they may be coming from, the one they're going to...or the one going on inside.
11:38 "he set traps?!" 🤣🤣
My man was dealing with some severe PTSD, and never got help. That cop ain’t 💩
"It's over Johnny. It's over!"
"Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my war! You asked me, I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to win! But somebody wouldn't let us win! And I come back to the world and I see all those maggots at the airport, protesting me, spitting. Calling me baby killer and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me, huh? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!"
Fun Fact: The large piece of rotten canvas that Rambo finds in the woods and cuts into a makeshift coat was in fact not a movie prop, but a real piece of rotten canvas found by the film crew during the movie's production. Since there was only one piece, Sylvester Stallone joked about how the canvas became a treasured prop on the set. After filming ended, Stallone kept the rotten canvas and still has it in his possession to this very day.
Shout-Out Fact: According to Sylvester Stallone in the DVD commentary, the names of the people on Rambo's team in Vietnam (as read by Col. Trautman (Richard Crenna)) are actually names of various people of the film's crew, including make-up artist Michael Westmore and costume designer Tom Bronson.
Art Before Ego Fact: Sylvester Stallone hated the first cut of the film so much that he tried to buy the film back and destroy it. When he couldn't do that, he suggested that the producers cut much of his part and let the rest of the characters tell the story. That cut the movie time in half and set a precedent for future action movies.
Hope/British Columbia/ Canada 1982 with Canadian military reserves as extras 😮😊😅😂🎉
When the deputy is in the helicopter and he says “if you don’t fly this thing straight,, I’m going to kill you“ I’ve always thought that the best response by the pilot would be “oh really? Then who’s going to fly the helicopter?“
This film, opens the eyes of the country to PTSD, and what these Vietnam veterans went through, not just over there, but when they came home, and they have been dealing with that every day since. Being a veteran myself, I have talked to Vietnam vets, and heard thier stories, I never interrupt them, I just let them talk, and let them get things out, I have heard plenty of stories, some, I wouldnt want to have lived through or even want to deal with, but these poor guys have to on a daily basis, our treatment and mental health awareness has come pretty far since those days, but it's still, not enough, we ALL need that help and support, God bless every man, woman, who has worn the uniform, served our country and done the duty that was and is asked of them, thank you for the reaction and I am glad you were aware of the trauma, have seen others react to this one, and they wanted to poke fun, and find it amusing, soooo wrong!!!...take care.
Sly actually talked to numerous vets, and put their stories into the final speech.
Actually in novel "First Blood" sheriff was Korea veteran. And he got own point coz he should protect town.
3:03 "with your red head." 😆
Another cool movie and reaction!! A bit of context first, this movie was a commentary on the treatment of our returning Vets from Vietnam, who were fighting a harsh, barbaric, and unpopular war. For reasons too complex to get into here, but essentially the US was fighting a very covert, hidden, stealthy, and well organized enemy in Vietnam who would often use and hide amongst civilians, often pitting our soldiers against these civilians, hence at the end when Rambo says when he returned home they (our civilians) were spitting on him and calling him babykiller. Many returning Vets found it difficult to adjust back to civilian life and sadly, were seen as dregs of society, men without honor. Very embarrassing time in our history.
You are doing a whole bunch of bangers lately!"! Loving it. Like watching a my granddaughter watching these movies for the first time ❤
my favorite part about the car/ dirtbike chase scene is when he jumps the car and the horn honks! that means he smacked his head on the steering wheel as he landed hahaha
Yep! Those hunting knives are equipped with needle & thread, fishing line w bait, compass and few other things 👍🏼
10/10
First Blood (1982)
I, like many, have probably grown up with Rambo being a part of popular culture. From all those references to such an iconic character I was expecting some war film centered around an unstoppable killing machine. I was completely wrong, and thankfully so. Rambo is the story of a dark and troubled man. Rambo isn't a hero, but he should have been. He's a man that came home with no one to welcome him. He drifts from town to town, antagonised wherever he goes. One day a police force pushes him too far. Rambo's mental instabilities take hold and he pledges a war against these men in authority. There are no clearcut villains, and certainly no heroes here. We empathise with Rambo, and understand the police action taken against him. As well as being a commentary on the treatment of Vietnam Vets, it also shows how war isn't an excuse for such violent actions. Dennehy's wonderful character is shown (very subtly) as a soldier that managed to find his path. At the same time Dennehy doesn't know when to quit, his pride getting in the way. This is an action film with real substance, real issues, and real discussions to be had. It also never fails to deliver on the action, and Stallone's final emotional breakdown will relate to anyone that's been pushed too far. A film focused mostly on understanding, not excusing. I regret waiting this long to watch it.
Just a fair warning that the rest of the sequels are not like this.
After this movie they took the sequels more in an "action-hero" direction, and that can either be a good or bad thing depending on your taste and preferences.
The last two though, were a bit more closer to the original in terms of having more dramatic pathos, but still leaning very heavily on (violent) action.
In my opinion, this was the best one because it showcased Stallone's acting skills - especially in a role where he had such few lines - over an action hero type, which became more of the defining role of later on in his career.
He's actually a pretty good actor (And writer) and you should also check out Copland (Which he wrote and directed, I believe) and which has a whole bunch of your favorite Mob/Mafia movie regulars like Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel.
I mean, after the second one, they made a kid's cartoon series.
That's the direction they went with, he became a marketed brand.
@Cbricklyne - I agree with your comment, but a correction is required, James Mangold wrote and directed Copland.
@@molasorrosalom4846 well back then single parenting was common and they didn’t care as much what kids watched. My mom sure didn’t care I was 7 when I saw this in the mid 90s lol I thought Rambo was cool As Fuck. My kid watches Harley Quinn at 6 and her mom is ok with it. 😂 they should bring back the Rambo cartoon series
Don't think it has anything to do with single parenting.
I was born in the 80s, and my dad knew there was some movies, that even though they were rated R, a kid could watch.
I saw Rambo 2 and 3, before I saw the first one.
Didn't even see the first one till I was 12 I believe, and I didn't really understand his breakdown at the end.
As a grown up though, it brings tears to people's eyes.
@@molasorrosalom4846 true. Though I would eventually learn what PTSD was when I entered the foster care system at a young age.
That's the way it was back Then !! One Day You are in the Jungle and the Next Day on the Streets of America !!!! Another Great Reaction Journey !!!
Really shocked (In a good way) to see this reaction !!! That’s why I keep coming back here 🎉❤
Thanks for getting the name right! Most people who react to it add "Rambo" to the title. That's the sequel. Cheers! 🥂
Great reaction. The second film (Rambo: First Blood Part 2) was a massive hit which turned the character into a shallow, indestructible cartoon, completely overshadowing the first film which was actually pretty quiet and thoughtful for the first half...and the scene where he breaks down crying at the end is truly heartbreaking. It was based on a novel of the same name, although in the book he dies at the end.
Oh, the redheaded cop is played by a young David Caruso of CSI: Miami fame (you may remember the infamous "sunglasses/YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!" meme).
Rambo really don't talk to anybody which is so sad😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Great Reaction.....
This was one of the First post-Vietnam movies that addressed PTSD....
This is from a Novel/Book, They Changed the ending for the movie....
Will Teasale, the Sheriff, is a Decorated Korea Conflict Veteran, which is considered America's forgotten war, So there is some animosity between Veterans of different wars.
Rambo didn't kill till he had no choice
Experts have been surveyed and verified that all the things in this movie is possible and realistic.
Reason he blew up the Gas Station and the Gun Store was to draw the police away from the station, where Rambo knew the Sheriff would stay......
Rambo's Speech at the end is so elequently worded and performed.....
7:08 called it.
I know this may be a minor issue, but when Rambo hijacked the M35. If I was LEO or Army NG, I would've set my roadblock on the other side of the bridge that way if he missed getting across the bridge, he would end up in the river. It would've been more logical. Still a badass movie about PTSD.
That really did hurt because he actually broke his ribs filming that tree scene
Wowww
@Journey Marie Reacts I know, right... that was him actually screaming because of it. Once production started back up, apparently, he had a talk with the director and decided to keep the footage in.
The brotherhood that's in the military is one you CANNOT find in the civilian world. I did 5 years in the Navy and came back to civilians that saw me as a way to get financial success because of the honorable discharge benefits i was awarded or just because that's who they were. I miss the friends i've made in the Navy and wish i was back there more times than a few
The beginning to one of the best action trilogies of alltime. Enjoy the other two Rambo films they are even better.
What I love about the first time reaction with this movie, is that so many people are expecting a cartoonish action movie, and then the last 4 minutes, blows everyone away. Majority of people end up bawling their eyes out.
And Sylvester Stallone had to FIGHT to put that scene in the movie, the studios wanted to just have the Colonel kill him.
Yep. In the book, the Sheriff and Rambo both die.
Smart decision to have this monologue. As much as it would’ve been poetic for Rambo to die like in the book. This sends a stronger message. There are veterans who are still amongst us who have yet to receive the love and support they need to move on. Many of them are still contemplating suicide.
But as long as they are still with us, back home and alive. It’s never too late to show them the love they need. That we as a nation do truly appreciate their sacrifices.
The guy who played the sheriff, Brian Dennehy, was also a great villain in Silverado. It’s a very fun western starring Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, and Kevin Costner. Highly recommend this film.
In the 80s, the "survival knife" with compass and fishing line inside was a trendy thing you'd see ads for...I guess thanks to this movie. Not sure what good it was going to be at the mall or the arcade (where we hung out back then). Good reaction as usual
I had one when I was about ten. I took it to my uncle's cottage and hacked my way through the woods. Even used the fishing kit to catch some perch. Inside the handle was a fishing kit (line, hooks and sinker), waterproof matches, and a wire saw. Good times.
They were fun until the blade snapped due to no tang. There WERE some versions that were better built, but they were much more expensive.
Another good movie choice!!! You are in my DVD case with the past five. That ending gets me, every time. 😢
The first one is always the best. I enjoyed watching again and you seeing your reactions. In sort note also be kind to those who have served or who is serving in the military.
15:50 "little do you know." 😏
"He did that to himself. What a dummy." - JM
You getting into movies now heck yeah Rambo 1 2 3 all good
One of my favorite movies all time, not much on the sequels, but this one is pure gold. Saw Vietnam vets being treated similar to this growing up, and as I grew older I realized how fortunate some of those people were that the men I knew didn't erase them. People serve our country, willingly or not, and get treated like sh^t by citizens and the govt when they come home. Stallone's best performance imo. Great example of pride going before the fall for all those dummies.
Amen
I have yet to see a really good movie on tunnel rats in Vietnam. One of the toughest jobs given out. I talked to one artillery officer and said with my height if I was around at the time I would have been tossed on tunnel rat duty.
Know most that went in the tunnels never made it back out.
@@freespirit9981 Ya, that would of been a horrifying job. I have many books on Vietnam, and the tunnel rat stories always got me. It would be amazing if they did a movie centered around the Cu Chi Tunnels.....like a city down there.
Love 80s movies especially with Sylvester Stallone Rambo is a classic, yeah that cop was a oppressor and narcissistic who thought he had alot of power and his ego wouldn't leave Rambo alone
At the end you need to learn more about engagement tactics. Gas station was a diversion to spread out the police. 2nd electric to hide movements, 3rd gun store another diversion to get that big cop to show himself. Last but not least he is isolated so engage. Even in the woods he had good tactics. Now they had wounded to deal with and get out. Giving him lots of time for escape. But guys of this time of his statue were trained not to run but engage.
There's even more to his tactics. To him, the town was a war zone, as you observed. So he takes out the gas station and cars first so that hampers the enemy movements. Takes out the power so the enemy has to operate in the dark. Takes out the gun store so that the access to weapons and ammo would be gone. Also, anyone who says Stallone can't act needs to see the final four minutes of this film. Sly was amazing with that speech. Great reaction.
This movie is the shit. I remember going over to my friends house who made me watch this, don’t regret it.
You just dont turn it off, ptsd is the war you fight every single day, during the day and at night. Its the war no one ever sees.
I've consistently found it kind of _odd_ for Sheriff Teasle and John Rambo to be so at _odds._ They're both _veterans._ Rambo is a veteran of the _Vietnam_ War. Teasle is a veteran of the _Korean_ War. Why does Teasle have such a _problem_ with _Rambo?_
Unfortunately for Rambo, PTSD didn’t become an actual diagnosis until the 80’s. That along with the Vietnam war being closely followed by the press and shown on TV. And the public forming their opinions and views from what they seen on TV. Also because we withdrew and didn’t actually win the war public opinion wasn’t great. So sad because most vets were drafted and sent against their will.
"'Congratulations', they said, 'You've got what it takes.'
They sent him back into the rat race without any brakes"
Bob Dylan
This movie reiterates a common _notion_ about the Vietnam War that's wholly _false;_ that US civilians had a problem with our _troops._
But this was a key trait that differentiated the Vietnam War from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were fought entirely with _volunteers._ The Vietnam War had to use _conscripts._
Now why does a country use conscription in a time of war? To give its citizens an especially _personal_ reason to monitor what's going on with the _war_ they're funding. Consent of the governed is a _fundamental pillar_ of democracy. This is something they teach in _every_ High School American Government class.
Now one of our _biggest objections_ to the war in Vietnam is that it kept young Americans away from home, _against their will,_ and sometimes got them _killed_ and it had no end in _sight._
Now who should be _more_ opposed to a war than the people who have to personally go and _fight_ it? Am I really supposed to believe that our troops, deployed to Vietnam, _wanted_ to be there? It was a _war_ zone. Isn't war pretty universally _hell?_ No. Our troops wanted to come _home_ because it was _home._
And that was what the protests, back in the States, were all _about._ "End the war. Bring our boys home." That was the mentality.
So if our _troops_ objected, and our _population_ objected, why should the two be at _odds?_
The first and best Rambo film.
Rambo is a legendary movie love the video Marie stay motivated Dream big 1 mill on the way
Vietnam had to be of the worst wars. If you want to see a good Vietnam movie check out Platoon-William Dafoe,Tom Berenger, and Charlie Sheen.
Are you telling me that 200 men against your boy is a no-win situation for us?!
You send that many don’t forget one thing.
What?
A good supply of body bags.
Rambo was John Wick before John Wick. Great reaction to this classic movie. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
If you want to see Stallone in a comedy, he was in a movie called Oscar playing an old timey gangster. Really underrated movie.
Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don’t turn it off! Rambo got betrayed by the country that sent him to war 😔🫡
The unfortunate thing is there are a lot of veterans who have PTSD and need help but they know they stand a good chance of losing their Second Amendment rights if they try to get help.
I love your reaction journey keep going
There will be 4 more movies in this franchise, 2 more old and 2 newer
I just love your reactions!!!
Thank you!!
If you get the chance check out the equalizer starring Denzel Washington but this was a good movie.
Rambo First Blood was NEVER MEANT to be an action movie franchise instead it was supposed to be a representation of the traumatic abuse both physical and psychological damages of war veterans both in the field and at home a point that at the time no one wouldn't accept nor acknowledge back then they called it shell shock a point that the other films missed and another fun fact the sheriff was a Korean War Veteran himself another war that was almost forgotten about in the history books
Philadelphia accent in Rocky. :)
I'd like to see you do more Robert Deniro movies
Like .... A Bronx tale
Already loveee that one
OSCAR is a comedy starring Sylvester Stallone. I think you'd enjoy it.
Movie suggestions, “windtalkers, 300, 300 rise of an empire, Troy, and black hawk down”
You should check out his 90s movies in Demolition Man and Tango and Cash.
12:03 😲😆
Actually there are four more Rambo movies after this one: Rambo first blood part 2, Rambo 3 and the 4th one is just called Rambo and after that Rambo last blood
Great reaction. I hope you'll react to Rambo: First Blood part 2

Watch all the Rambo movies, each kinda unique and very entertaining
U just don’t turn it off Rambo
rambo is the best!!!!
Its interesting seeing people's differing reactions to this movie but I always wonder why some of ya'll actually don't get so moved to the point that you cry. Like what did you go through that made you this stoic ?
Been through a lot🥲takes a lot for me to cry😊
Please do Rambo part 4. It’s so much better and fun .
I wished they had fleshed out the cops story a bit more in the movie like the book this is based on. In the book the cop was in the Korean War and had issues of his own as opposed to a small town cop on a power trip.
You don’t know there is his medals Display at his office desk in this movie where you seen him sitting😮😊😅😂🎉
LMAO. You’re so mean. “i doubt he has a wife” . That’s funny
What’s happened to “The Sopranos’…? 🤷🏻♂️

Stallones true accent is South Philly .There’s a very good action comedy with Stallone and Kurt Russell,it’s called Tango and Cash, it’s really great. Lots of laughs and lots of action.
this movie made me hate cops. cops think that they can do what they want. well they do treat ex milatary like shit.
Marry me
