- Bert Haanstra's Academy Award-winning short Glass in a newly restored 4K scan.

I can't believe I was able to find this so easily!!!
My dad once added tape to the junglebook on VHS, and recorded this on the back end.
I was so young that I didn't even question this. It was this magical second movie that would play if you stayed after Baloo and Baghera walked into the horizon.
Winner of the 1959 Academy Award for "Best Documentary Short Subject".
1960* not 1959
The best part about this film is the music. It shows that making glass is like playing music, the person working to make a glass is playing an instrument and it is so calm and has a rythm and As soon as machine is introduced you can hear loud and fast music which is at a point chaotic. Also the beautifull structures are made by man and the regular structure is produced on machine which signifies that Machine cannot be better than Human being and also machine can go terribly wrong if not monitored by a Human.
This was my interpretation, if anyone agrees or has any critic comment to make on it, please feel free and if you liked what I said. Please leave a like
on point specially would like to add that the editing makes this much interesting and beautiful
@@hariharmuni579 True!
Nice interpretation Harshad!
Thank you very much for the explanation
The score was written by Pim Jacobs, and performed by the Pim Jacobs Quintet.
how enormously funny to see these simple men make wonderful pieces and at the same time smoke their cigarette or pipe! respect!! thank you .....and of course the music...Bert!! just fab....and bril...
Using Hot glass to light a cigarette means you’re officially a bad ass
Forming the handle on that jug is sheer poetry in motion.
An eternal masterpiece. I'm watching it more than 200 times (the first time was some 30 years ago on 16 m.m film) and enjoying more and more from time to time Thanks to the creator!
The quarantine hit u hard I see.
What prompted me to look for it on YT was first watching this on 16mm over the weekend at afilm show. A friend and fellow film collector has this in low fade color. Excellent stuff.
Who would have thought that Jazz music & industry would go so well together! :D
Bert Haanstra
could argue jazz goes with everything, either complimentary or by juxtaposition, and everything in between ; - )

Did you all add something to the beginning? I don't remember the audio being out of sync like this
Edit: I found another copy. This extra video intro seems to be added later and the audio didn't shift.
7:48 their hands are so gentle and technical at the same time. It is certain Artisan.
True artists and working-class heroes!
Satisfying
Maravilloso
Wonderful!
Excellent
Very pleasant to watch
the quality is amazing but audio becomes untimely for a while around minute 6. Do you think you could correct it? thank you for uploading this!
I notice this too. There's another version on youtube where the audio appears to be synced up properly- it's this version is out of place, it deserves to be in it's best state!
I've just found and compared four other uploads of this film, and as far as I can tell, they all sound the same (besides audio quality). Could you explain in more detail?
@@Agnes.Nutter The sound is the same, but the sound track is misaligned in time with the film in some versions. check out this version: czcams.com/video/KAYh0f1CPuc/video.html
@@MrKadvaga Thanks for the reply! I've just downloaded both this video and one you linked, and placed them side by side in my video editor. After a little experimentation, I've found that relative to *each other*, the two uploads differ: The older upload plays back at 25 FPS while this one is slightly slower at 24 FPS (hence why this upload is about 4% longer). However, if you compensate and play them at the same frame rate, the audio timing relative to the video track is exactly the same. :)
the guy working in a jacket and tie - makes me wonder what he's like
He’s probably dead now.
I'm not sure why but the glass bottle arm mover is absurdly hilarious to me
Mooi zeg, is dit nu publiek domein?

Het geluid is na een tijdje niet synchroon meer. Erg jammer, aangezien dit de enige 4K versie is van de korte film. Dit mag wel gefixt worden na 6 jaar online...

You know what sounds good when doing sweaty glasswork in a hot mill in front of an oven and with hot glass in my face and blowing with all my power into a tube?
Smoking a cigarette, of course.
