  • Overnight wild camp in serious weather conditions which included torrential heavy rain which lasted all night and strong storm force winds that destroyed a 1 MAN TENT! Enduring the storm was a challenge on the summit of a large hill!
This camp saw me return for another overnight wild camping trip on the beautiful Bell's Hill in the Pentlands. 3 tents battle it out while strong storm force winds batter the tents.

Absolutely agree with you. I’ve already had a bad experience in the wind and nearly wrecked another tent I own. I think the Hilleberg is the tent to use for this sort of weather. Absolutely awesome video! I love hearing the weather and the rain on the tent, which looks to be a really great tent. When I used to backpack in the Lakes in the early seventies the tents were so heavy we has to split the weight between two of us, one had the poles and the other the tent and they always leaked. Great times though and a great experience to sleep wet and cold.

The rangers prefer you to camp in a few designated spots which are aweful, one had a large coke bottle stuffed in a tree with toilet paper hanging from a branch and a charred firepit to look at with a bannana skin nearby. There are scenes like above also all along loch lomond shore or wherever people have easy access to get to.

'Asda Smart Price Bivvy Bag' 🤣. Fair play to Mike for staying cheery, that must have been a traumatic night. As an owner of both a Soulo and a Nevis 100 you can tell that's stupid strong wind there - not sure I've seen a Soulo 'bow in' quite as much as yours in any other vids Gaz. And when the Vango pole snaps you can just sense the deflation... thanks all three of you for staying out in such conditions so that we can enjoy it from safety at home. Great vid and a new sub here. I’m also an owner of a Vango Nevis 100 and it done a good job for me when it got windy. The winds that night easily hit 65mph. Even though I had the Soulo it did get quite uncomfortable at times. Mike was up until 4AM waiting for the wind to calm down a little so it was a long night for him. Hey Gaz - just wondering with the flapping of the inner tent in high winds - does the inner ever touch the outer on windward side of the tent? If so do you think additional guy lines attached to the middle of the tent panels of the fly would prevent this or it's the inner tent that's the problem and that wouldn't be solved via keeping the fly taught on the outside??

Hey Mark the Inner and the Outer never touched during the night. The inner does a fair bit of flapping but there is a reasonable space between the fly and inner. For me the Soulo is fine the way it is but I do understand why people add additional guy lines to the tent panels.

Rab Electron is my down Jacket I only wear inside the tent. I usually wear my waterproofs outside the tent or when I’m walking👍 The Rab sleeping bag does a great job keeping me warm and even if the temperatures are above freezing I still use this sleeping bag. I’ve never been in a situation where I’m too hot inside the bag, but I’d rather be too hot than too cold inside a tent during the winter👍 Much easier to cool down rather than trying to heat yourself up if you’re too cold. There are other options for the Rab Ascent range you could look at👍 ATB Gaz.
