- Ray Harryhausen - master of models, magician with miniatures, the stop-motion Svengali, doyen of Dynamation - pops into the Take Two studio, to discuss producing the special effects for his latest film blockbuster, Clash of the Titans.
He brings along two of the film's stars - Medusa the gorgon and Bubo the owl - to show to presenter Sam Dale.

I met Ray Harryhausen at his home in Holland Park about 20 years ago. Many of his famous models were dotted around his living room, including the skeletons and medusa from Jason And The Argonauts. What a legend.

Seeing clash of the titans at the cinema is one of the most memorable moments of my life. Absolutely brilliant!

Medusa frightened me quite a lot as a kid. What a legend Harryhausen was! And what a nice, well-mannered interview.
Awesome i had the pleasure to meet him in Babelsberg Studios 1992 when he visited the CineFantastic exhibition where several of his original puppets were shown. Just 10 years earlier as a kid i saw "Clash of the Titans" and those days as a film student i was able to ask him some questions. A great memory. He is an outstanding artist.
Stunning thing to have from the archive
I had nightmares about Medusa after seeing Clash of the Titans as a kid. When I went to see the Ray Harryhausen exhibition in Edinburgh a few years ago and came face to face with the real model itself it was quite moving.
Great man and a good taste in jackets. I still find that Medusa figure scary. Good to see that this kind of animation such as in the recent Pinocchio film is still around.

Harryhausen is a legend in the history of visual effects and I was lucky enough to see 'The Clash of the Titans' when it came out in 1981; I was 12 and fascinated by both visual effects and Greek mythology, and I remember my heart beating so hard when the Medusa appeared that I thought I was going to have a heart attack in the cinema!

There is so much ‘life’ in his creations. I’ve always loved the cyclops from the 7th Voyage of Sinbad, I watch it at least once a year.
No way could I do those thousands of micro-movements. Such patience.

These old robot owls were great. Not like the robot owls we have these days.
The modern version of Clash Of The Titans, with all its CGI, is totally inferior to the original. I've loved Jason and The Argonauts from the first time, I saw it on television. Legend and a genius. ♥️

I always remember seeing this film as a kid. I think the crudeness and jerkiness of the special effects make it so much more disturbing than anything done these days with CGI.
I can remember blinking in the pictures to see this film with my mate at the A.B.C cinema in Brighton I was 11 years old in 1981.those were the days,great times,best times of my life 80s,not like the crap we are living through now.👍

@@ultimatemagic2125 race riots, Margaret Thatcher, closing of the mines, Falklands war, major privatisation across industries, transport etc, poll tax riots (1990, but close enough), Piper Alpha and Lockerbie disasters, Hillsborough disaster, unemployment highest it had ever been since the Great Depression, Yorkshire ripper, John Lennon shot.... If you enjoyed the 80s then that is great, I enjoyed it too as a kid, but saying, things were better back then for any era is just, in my opinion, nostalgia.

What is immediately obvious is the intelligent nature of the conversation which is conducted like a real world one.
Something totally at odds with todays output where even supposedly adult content like The One Show and Countryfile, are so dumbed down and agenda driven as to be embarrassing.
All that aside, Ray was an absolute legend and his humble nature is everything I expected of him.
I also loved Jason and the Argonauts and Clash of the Titans (the latter I saw in the cinema as a teenager).
Very talented man. Unfortunately practical effects are a dying art with CGI now widely used badly.
Special effects was a true art. Today's CGI loses the magic
