One small little detail I wish they would have included in hogwarts legacy is; I wish the paintings were asleep at night like they are in the movies. They're always awake lol
Well, Student is always awake too
In fact, they are asleep at night. If you stop casting Revelio every 5 seconds, of course.
It's because they're a gif lol
They do sleep at night
They do sleep at night. At least in the head masters room
I like in the old game how the stairs move like the movies its a little more immersive because of the familiarity.
The staircase is book accurate.

@GeorgeMonet
You got any idea what games in the 2000s look like? In comparison to the others, this is awesome
@@holymacaroni19 All the games i can think from that year (or before) looked lightyears better than this. Killzone 2, MGS4, Uncharted 2, Resident Evil 5, L4D2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Battlefield Bad Company (which also introduced destructible enviroments to that series), Gears of War 1 & 2... even going back to 2007 you got stuff like Halo 3, BioShock, COD4 (i'd mention Crysis but pretty much nothing could compete with that game until the next generation).
I'm surprised just how many likes that original comment has, honestly, either people are remembering wrong or they never experienced the PS3-X360 era.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love the detailing and physics in Legacy, but still gotta appreciate what they were able to pull off in the early and late 2000s, given the crappy budget and limited HW capability. My favourite of the franchise used to be the Chamber of Secrets in 2002. The environment was immersive and haunting.
Are you talking about Chamber of Secrets on PC or PS2 ? Because they're radically different games, but both very charming.
@@yrooxrksvi7142 PS2, I’d hasten to guess. It helps that the composer for the soundtrack was none other than Jeremy Soule, who also scored Oblivion.
@@tsrashi8229 CoS PS2 has to be my favorite HP game (until I get my hands on HL, naturally). And speaking of Jeremy Soule, I'd love to see a soundtrack replacement mod where they use his music and James Hannigan's from Order of The Phoenix onwards.
"late 2000s' bruh it aint 2090, its 2023, we still in the early 2000s.
liked prisoner of azkaban more, cuz of the hogwarts exploring
I’m shocked at how good the old game was! I never played it so I would have expected worse.
especially the flying broom!
Also the old games are back 2 console generations on the ps3 and ps2 😅
The Harry potter games were very good, it is bad thats there is no more of them to buy 😢 I had but they CD crashed
They were rated pretty harshly back in the day by reviewers. However myself and many others enjoyed these games and I think overtime they're considered great games. I'd go as far as to say some of the best of the PS2 era. Definitely worth checking out even today.
@@luanamendes1710 U can always play on Ps2 emu btw..
One thing i remember from the order of the phoenix game is that you could attack any random student and they would duel you.
It was so disappointing to find out that in legacy the students wouldn't even react at all if you are casting spells at them.
i mean they kinda do they kinda jerk backwards sometimes
@@Annathebelle123 yeah okay, but their conversation continues like nothing happened.

Half-Blood Prince gives such a grim and dark vibe, absolutely love its atmosphere
I think they should remake the old ones with modern graphics and combat style. It would be really good to play the story from books and movies.
Modern graphic Yes, maybe some quality of life improvements definitely, but a remaster rather than a remake is what I'd love. I'm having heavy nostalgia for PS2 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I'd love a remaster if that gem and the PS2 Chamber of secrets
if they would do that they would make everyone black like they did in legacy and likely hate on whites and add some gay and trans characters because hey game developers dont exist anymore everyones a political activist for whatever reason

i think we shouldnt let them temper anymore with that story better to move forward instead of backward we know how it goes with the remasters...
One thing I’ll add as an avid book reader. I noticed that a lot of features in Hogwarts legacy are based of descriptions from the book rather than how it shows up in the movie. A lot of the exterior is similar to the movies but inside seems more based on the book description. Two easy examples is the Grand Stair Case in Hogwarts Legacy is more based on how the book describes the area rather than what’s shown in the movie. The second example is the location of the Common room entrance. The movie shows the entrance to be in the area of the grand staircase but in the book it describes the entrance being close to the staircase but down its own hall way as we see in Hogwarts Legacy. I love both versions but can definitely appreciate the attention given from the books honestly
Also the house points structure!
They did say they were basing the game more on the books than the movies, with just enough of the movies/music thrown in
Movies are for gheys
I was nerding out ...
- the honeydukes shortcut behind the Witch statue.
- entering the kitchens by tickling the pear on the portrait
So many direct references from the books I teared up and I haven't read the books in ages I'll be honest but instant whiplash.
Also de prefects bathroom is exactly as the description in the books, absolutely amazing. (is it called in english like that?sry)
What Half-Blood Prince did definitely better is the potion making. It's also nice that you can play Gobstone with others.
Another nice thing in my opinion was the manual spell casting. You actually had to make specific mouse movements to cast spells and had to remember the movements.
I wish this was at least an option in legacy
@@alex786 they could have made combos for controler gameplay too instead of having 4 spells sloted and then changing them. I think it would have actually improved fighting.
Half blood prince potion making was the biggest part i miss. Now You just select the potion and it makes it for you. But in half blood prince it was so entertaining to make all these potions. Trying to make the perfect potion.
But deek thinks you should be proud with all potions you've brewed
@@kakemi9 i loved order of the Phoenix it was so fun
I like how the old games make hogwarts feel creepy with the grey lighting instead of it almost always being lighter and more alive in legacy
Cuz in the old games voldemort was alive, in Legacy nope
It was around Wizarding War times lol
For me, this has always been weird. Hogwarts is rarely described as scary, but rather as a warm and welcoming, yet confusing magical place.
Its accurate to the tone of Half Blood Prince since it was also the year the Ministry formally announced that the Second Wizarding War is on going.
Another important detail in old Harry Potter games was how long they had to make them, they needed to release them quickly after each movie so they didn't have like 4-6 years that games like Hogwarts Legacy and others have. Just one to two years and after release instantly you need to start working on the other.
exactly, completetly agree with you.
Though some of the old games reused a lot of things from previous games. Ps2 Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets had basically the same castle. Also Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince were very similar. The biggest difference can be seen between Prisoner of Azkaban and Order the Phoenix and inbetween those they had that rushed dumbsterfire of Goblet of Fire. Also the games were a lot shorter in terms of story and world. Not saying smaller size is automatically a bad thing but it definitely affects the time needed for development.
That my friend is why movie tie-in games barely exist nowadays, it was a dumb practice made only for advertising
This really makes me appreciate the range of color we get in more modern games too
Yes PS3's era was the dark age of desaturated crap
It has its charm though, makes me nostalgia seeing it.
@@phaexalI dont know what are you talking about i play a lot ps3 games and everything look colorful and crisp maybe is your tv.
In this case, sure, but in many, if not most modern games, the warm coloring and overly realistic environments - are pretty boring, overused and make locations seem less creative/artistic, more similar to one another.
Also, artists often can't pull out details without making your eyes having a hard time to focus on one particular thing with all the "Visual noise" you see on the screen.
Which is why the older, more outdated technology actually made games look better, in a way, because game developers had limited space and resources which's forced them to only show you what they really wanted to show you, without all the extra unnecessary foliage, rocks, etc. - which often is just copy pasted and pretty randomly spread across the ground.
This is also why Open World games are so boring to look at / explore, for the most part.
Well you know.. Technology keeps advancing so you have more to work with nowadays in terms of colour
For me, the best game in the harry potter saga is "the order of the phoenix". the mechanics of using spells were really cool
Yeah that game was so awesome!
The in-game map was like the marauder's map.
And you could just attack any random student and they would duel you, i loved that detail.
In legacy the students don't even react if you're shooting spells right at them.
Half-blood prince works the same but it’s way less boring.
Yes daddy!
Very strange but I felt more life in the npcs of the old games, it seemed that they were really seeing me. In Legacy sometimes it seems like they don't notice you.
Cos you’re harry potter! Thats why u are public attention
@@dikaduha6891 You're also supposed to be public attention in Hogwarts Legacy too with how you attended Hogwarts on the fift year and joined the ceremony late. You have dialogues about you everytime you see other students and all.
The NPCs acted very erratically during cutscenes in legacy, sometimes they would walk back and forth when the camera switched focus 🙄lmfao they would look like they were obviously eavesdropping LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yeah they mostly look at you and curse at you mostly Slytherins for ex "Potty Potter" and "Mudblood when Hermione is with you"
And so many things. Best thing you can beat every student up anytime
Aren't you a new student in legacy? I don't think much people would pay attention to a new person unless they make the effort.
Somehow the male character in Hogwarts Legacy sounds more like Harry Potter than Harry Potter.
Don't trust that bot
@@BlitzByte00 let’s mass report it
true
While the 2009 one focuses much more on the fidelity of the films (not that it is more faithful than the hogwarts legacy) but I feel that it brings a more "faithful" feeling, the Hogwarts legacy brings a more glamorous and detailed hogwarts, while in the films it is very "finished" and very old
That's my feeling towards Hogwarts Legacy too compared to the movies. Hogwarts doesn't have the ambience and look of an ancient 1000 year old castle. It leans way too much on the glamorous side.
My thought is because Hogwarts Legacy's timeline is different. It's way way back before Harry Potter which may be the reason why the castle is not that worn out yet. I read somewhere that the game's timeline took place around the 1890s, that's about a century before the events in the Harry Potter books and films. The first wizarding war hasn't taken place yet.

We have to remember that hogwarts legacy takes place 100 years before Harry, and in the books, the castle seems to be somewhat sentient, so the castle will and can somewhat change how it looks, if I remember the 7th book correctly the castle literally helps rebuild its self
No, it's not because of that, Hogwarts didn't change Its appearance. It's just the devopers of the game based their Hogwarts on its depiction from the books rather than films. So Hogwarts Legacy is just closer to the canon

Question: what are Expelliarmus and Stupefy like in most of the video games? Like, I'm guessing there isn't a game where you simply disarm your enemy, because why would you do that and not directly beat them? Besides, the two spells have a very similar effect in the moves: knocking someone backwards. Do they both present that equivalent move in any games?
Author, please tell me the music against the background of the half-blood prince? 2:06
The older one has a more Harry Potter vibe to it, kinda how it was in the movies.
Because it is based on the movies. I agree the new one looks too posh at times, but it is generally more accurate to the actual books.
HBP is supposed to resemble the movie version of the castle, while Legacy took some inspiration from the movies but added in elements from the book.
you compared Levioso from Hogwards Legacy with Wingardium Leviosa from Harry Potter, but later in game (Hogwards Legacy) you unlock Wingardium Leviosa, witch is more advanced than Levioso
Did you turn off the ambient music for Legacy?
It's so souless without any music
Bro please u upload ur gameplay videos, definitely we love it ❤️
i like the subtle changes because of legacy being set in the 1800’s
For those who say that Half-Blood Prince feels weird at times, that's because they recycled everything that was done in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, they only added a couple of areas and the history of the Half-Blood Prince, but the rest being the map, the spells, the animations, the combat system all comes from Order of the Phoenix.
Несогласен они заявляли создали по фильму больше !!!
The combat felt much more responsive in HBP and the character models looked better too.
@@Night_frost It’s because it’s been refined from the previous game. It’s a normal thing for studios to do. Except in normal video game titles they tend to have the budget/expectation to increase graphics quality. Which almost never happens for movie tie in games.
@@Night_frost wasn't HBP utter shit, extremely buggy and nearly all about it was just collecting stuff? I have the first 5 games and I remember that I didn't get the 6th because it was supposed to be pretty bad and very buggy too or having stuff coded in a way that makes small "mistakes" made by the player very punishing.
@@LunnarisLP Wasn’t buggy IIRC. It does have a lot to collect though (but not much more than OOTP).

Half blood game was great, the details of the castle and how similar it is to the castle in movie
Lack of interactions with students at Hogwarts Legacy. The world feels dead... and that makes me sad. There are no mini-games, no duels with anyone. Of course, the detail and world are impressive, but for me it could have been better, we are waiting for a DLC or something. If I were the developers, I would add a co-op mode. To play with friends)
I played both OotP and HBP on Wii and they were absolutely great games! The side-to-side comparison here makes it look quite harsh, but Hogwarts was just as big than in HL, without all the loading between towers. I actually preferred Hogwarts' map in the Wii games, it had more locations from the movies and made a bit more sense to me. The entire Defence Against the Dark Arts Tower with the baroque style and music is a weird addition in my opinion. I'm wondering where that concept came from...
The map from the Half-Blood Prince is very accurate to the movies. Hogwarts Legacy has changed a lot, which is understandable and fine, but the Half-Blood Prince map is, from what I can see, almost a complete recreation of the sets in the movies, which I really appreciated back in the day and is why I enjoyed it so much

@@__mindflayer__ Yes, but the main structure is different. It wasn't a critique, I just pointed out why I liked the HBP game so much
Wow! I love the comparison, both game are awesome.
I've only played HL and I love that the castle isn't dark all throughout (except for places not usually explored by students) In daytime, it has a warmer feeling and feels very student appropriate as it gets. But come night time, it definitely feels eerie. I also should note that this Hogwarts is from an earlier timeline, a century before Harry's or even Dumbledore's time. So the castle is understandably in good condition. The Wizarding War first occurred in the 19th century which would explain why the Hogwarts we know is not as "glamorous" as it used to be. Also, Filch is a terrible caretaker compared to Gladwin Moon. See his journal entry where he wrote: I must remain steadfast. If I falter, to whom will the students look for guidance in these magical halls? Hogwarts would certainly fall into a state of utter chaos if I were to abandon my post for even one day. Filch other than being a Squib which doesn't make his job easier, also hated the students.
HL have flaws that frustrate me in terms of gameplay (a lot of it actually) but the design very much exceeded my book expectations. Devs have a lot to improve on and that's ok. We have something to look forward to. The 2009 game is great for its time. I know young me would've been obsessed
The castle in the older game isn't too bad, from the outside moreso. It's just drab/dull. Also, I agree that while the newer game is remarkable, the castle does feel a bit too... posh sometimes.
Posh and ever so slightly pretentious
The old game looks more accurate to the movie but I appreciate the massive amounts of space and details put in the Hogwarts legacy.
legacy is based on the books
Well, it also may be cuz the story is set a century earlier than the films so who knows, they may have done renovations or changed things in a hundred years.

Hello. It is a great comparison.
How can I play the 2009 game on my Xbox Series X? Is there a way i can find this game?
Had to check the Sorcerer's Stone after so many years. Haven't picked any HP game since then. Now that I've played many hours of HL... I'm so glad to see such an improvement on the characters in game and the scenario. Even with low graphics they feel like part of the game rather than just images put together. They truly nailed the immersion experience of the game. Can't wait to see how quidditch works.
I like the old stairs mechanics better
Hp6 have better spell mechanics and haunted atmosphere, Hogwarts Legacy feels like a mmorpg with shiny glittering world

The Half Blood Price game looks waaaaay more like how it looks in the movies. Think I should play the HP games again after seeing this
Locations of the old game are more similar with the movie
Doesn't matter. Even in the movies Hogwarts Layout changed like 4-5 times (removed Towers/Building, added new one, moved them somewhere else). Of course it's easier to be more accurate for game based on an specific movie.

Only thing that was wrong is that in HBP you're actually using wingardium leviosa, in HL youre using a different spell that's levioso. You do get wingardium leviosa later in the story.
He uses levioso at first when the purple beam shoots out. However when the yellow beam shouts out and he walks around with the barrel, that's wingardium leviosa. Both are in Hogwarts Legacy

Half Blood Prince still looks pretty nice, but in terms of gameplay, it was just a shallow walking simulator throwing fetch quest after fetch quest to distract the player. The first 3 HP games, particularly the PS2 versions, while taking some liberties in how they depicted Hogwarts, were much more in line with Hogwarts Legacy's scope. Even Order of the Phoenix, while sharing the same core gameplay as HBP, had more interesting minigames.
Shallow gameplay and fetch quests? Sounds like Hogwarts Legacy. The game is nothing more than a pretty movie-set.

Hogwarts Legacy has actual dungeons, hordes of enemies, actual combos, puzzles to solve, harvesting potion ingredients, stealth. HBP just makes you walk around the castle and do the same 3 things : potions, broken duels, on-rail Quidditch.
You're obviously talking aimlessly here.
@@yrooxrksvi7142 I didn't put them on the same level I said that Hogwarts Legacy has shallow gameplay and fetch quests because it does. It has all those things you listed but none of them have any depth. It's a well designed world with barley anything worthwhile to do in it. Dungeons are short, Puzzles are repetitive and dead simple, collectibles are boring, combat is spamming the same 4 spells (yellow, purple, red + basic cast) over and over, brewing potions is literally just a menu, stealth is overpowered because the AI is so braindead. And the worst thing is that the only reward for doing anything is boring loot with arbitrary stats that don't have any tangible impact on gameplay.
@@amysteriousviewer3772 I disagree on the dungeons length, some may be shorter than others, but overall they last enough. Puzzles being repetitive is nothing new to Harry Potter games, I do wish there were more collectibles than money loot, clothes and guide pages though. As for combat, I have some gripes with how some spells have been handled : I don't like Stupefy being tied ONLY to counters and Petrificus Totalus strictly to stealth, as Glacius and Arresto Momentum feel like weaker versions that could have been used a bit more for interacting with the enviroment than just combat.
I agree. I remember playing the first few harry potter games and loving them. But then they stopped making it open world, the scope was diminished, so I stopped buying them.
In Half Blood Prince you don’t have the. Levioso spell you have leviosa, but in the clip at 1:32 he uses Levioso just makes thing levitate in place and you can pull it with accio. You do Unlock Leviosa later though and you can move it around with that spell in all directions.
In the Half Blood Prince you only have leviosa.
I just thought some people would want to know in case they were confused as to why one says its not “levioso its leviosa”.
Is it just me or does HL have some of the same walking sounds as the first couple harry potter ps2 games?
My favourite harry potter game (except hogwarts legacy) is Prisoner of Azkaban. Smooth controls and cute and fun graphics. HP 4, 5 games were fine too but controls were too hard to get used to because there was no mouse control option.
HP 4 is trash
"Cute and fun" tf is cute and fun in graphics lmao
such a classic 2 me

@@CITYZEN50 yeah gotta agree with the others, you haven't played it i assume, because that's exactly how i would describe it as well hah
The doors in the 2009 game feel like they are real and really heavy. The 2023 one, on the other hand, have doors that feel like they are made of paper. It's details like this that makes you really imerse in the game. You can see that at 1:57, when the character enters the great hall. The fact that this door feels so light when compared to the one depicted in the old game takes away, in my opinion, some of the imponence of the room.
They did because in gaming everything has to be quick and snappy, then people would be complaining about the opposite things (Oooo Door takes so much time to open takes, its not immersive) People always complain about things
@@BlazeZ__ i dont know why everything needs to be so quick. Why cant a fregging door take 1 second to open? Can’t you wait a second? The doors in this game are ridiculous, you touch a imense, heavy wood door from a castle and it just snaps open in a split of a second.
@@Dmplivemail Most devs do it so the flow of the gameplay is faster and traversal feels quicker. Which I prefer to something like RDR2 where everything takes a while to do.
@@kubamax9kubowski176 Im sure is matter of preference, of course. But it does takes on immersion: every time the character opens a huge door instantly, it feels like a Lego game.
@@Dmplivemail I mean, it sure is a matter of preferences but having a door opening quick is the least of my concerns tbh. It's just a door, not the entire game.
Блин, если ГП ПП ремастернуть, или вообще с нуля чейчас пересобрать, он легаси положит на лопатки, перевернет и положит еще раз.. 😁
when I played the old game back then, it has the graphics of Hogwarts Legacy today.
that's how I see every game back then
Me pasa que los imagino así en súper calidad hasta que los vuelvo a ver hoy en día
i love how the older one is more accurate to the movies than legacy
While I don't think emulating the movies is necessarily a bad thing, it should definitely be a priority to be modeled after the books. I also don't mind the developers having their own artistic touch. Personally I think the half blood prince game was gloomy whereas the ps1 harry potter game and legacy were bright and jubilant. Both of these things are very "Harry Potter". The library and hogwarts at night need that dark ominous spooky feel which some older games ecompassed better. What I'm saying is I actually like the variety of different portrayals and angles that they depict harry potter from. It all feels like Harry Potter.
@@NewbCh8surr yeah ur right. I haven't played either though anyways 😆😆although I wold love to
Well, Legecy is literally 100 years before the movies Canon year.
Now every bug is a magic ✨

Being able to fly everywhere is really a good mechanism in Hogwarts Legacy. Ive made 2 bandit camps gone by npc, while I haven't done anything 😂
I like the Grand Staircase from the previous game and the movies better....
I prefer the Harry Potter Great hall since the Hogwarts Legacy feels like a shared food court
