    Becky, have you considered that at your sewing socials maybe that would be a great time for you guys to bring the patterns that you’re struggling with fit issues and as a group you can sort it out. Maybe trace the pattern and do tissue fitting at your socials and then you can work out the areas that are having problems in that tissue before you actually cut out thepattern in your fabric. It would give you group input and all of you can work together at problem-solving, the fit issues.

    Love the fabric for your dress. I find adding ties into the side, to bring the waist in, makes a difference.

    The hinterland by sew liberated if you cut the front on the fold (to take out the placket) is a similar dress to the indigo. I also think the fit seems to work for most people. I’ve made three of the placket free and I’d make again. X

    I feel for you _such beautiful fabric! You were quite happy with the top section in the morning and you were looking forward to wearing the completed dress. And the top section looked lovely on you. But you were not happy when the skirt was attached. Was it the gathers that messed with the fabulous print? But you will be able to make spectacular

    Hi Becky. I used to have that fit issue because I would choose a size based around my bust size and not my neck and shoulder size. To fix the problem I now use my upper bust size (and adjust for the cup size the pattern has been drafted for) and do a large bust adjustment. Hope this helps you.

    Have you thought about trying darts at the base of the top. Pointing up towards bust/neckline That will make waist smaller and you could gather skirt more to fit or take some fabric out of the skirt and refit

    I wonder if you would like Cashmerette patterns. they draft for curvier shapes and take into account things like narrow shoulders with a larger bust and tend to be a bit more fitted silhouettes in general. Just an idea--i'm a member of the IBTC so i have no personal knowledge of the company.

    Hi Becs, such a shame about your indigo, I love the pattern and don't have to make adjustments for my body type. However, I do have some suggestions for your body type. The Rosa dress by rosary apparel, I think, may give you what you want. This is a little more fitted than the indigo, but it gives a very similar look. I think the differences are darts in the bodice hem. That being said, would a couple of darts back and front not help to take the bulk out of the bodice? Then re attach the skirt to the slimmed down bodice. Hope this helps and you get your lovely dress sorted 😊

  • @annbutler7461
    @annbutler7461 Před 7 měsíci +2

    I redrafted the neckline pattern to come in half inch on each side, which brings the shoulders in a little, then did the narrow shoulder adjustment from there, it did work! Also I always take it in enough so that it still goes over my head and bustline so that way it looks more fitted! I've had disasters with that pattern 😢 but think got it right the last couple of times x

  • @amierikke6225
    @amierikke6225 Před 7 měsíci +2

    for your TATB dress, try the slim ties in the waist area trick and tie in the back loosely to bring it in. think it’s not too bad, I think it’s too long in the upper bust for you vertically. You’d need to mess with the sleeve opening also to fit there correctly. I’m a pear shape but tall (5’11”) and I need to adjust my shoulders/upper bust often.

    • @whatbecsews
      @whatbecsews  Před 7 měsíci +1

    Hello lovely lady. I have made a million versions of the 'Meet you there' dress by Pattern Emporium. Its very simple and great value for money as so may variations. There is a great video of the designer showing you all her variations here on you tube. I recommend the sea change jump suit too. Wear the tie belt slightly loose and allow the knot or bow to pull the tie down at the front creating a lovely V shape, it lengthens your torso and and makes you look lovely and slender! Do the same on the meet you there dress too!! I would also be interested to here if you have tried any of the love notions patters. I have had great success with there patterns because she draughts for different bust sizes. Best of luck.🌼

    Becs you could ask Adele about the Hinterland Dress I have made it and mine was quite fitted at the top and loose below the bust. and I know Adele has made it too. It's very similar to the Indigo but has a button down front. which you can do full front or just top. I think the fabric you used is an issue as well...ask me how I know. I made a Saguaro Set in that material base for my granddaughter and it stretched slightly. Hope you all have a great time at your retreat.

    • @derynporter5287
      @derynporter5287 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Came here to suggest the Hinterland too! It’s a versatile pattern that can be made up with buttons all the way down the front, half way down or none at all. It comes with 3/4, short or no sleeves at all. The Indigo pattern is my Nemisis as it nearly put me off sewing for life. One version is languishing in the naughty drawer three years later and although I made a second version that fit (out of sheer obstinacy) I will never touch it again! I love the Tokyo Nights fabric and it really suits you. I made a Matchy Matchy Club Collage top from it and it looks great. You’ve probably got enough fabric in your Indigo to make it!

    I haven’t made a TATB pattern before but just wondering if you could choose your size based on your upper bust and then do a full bust adjustment to accommodate the girls? Quite a few indie pattern companies have you choose your size based on upper bust measurements and I’ve even seen it for Vogue patterns. Also, the Pattern Emporium Meet You There Dress looks like it could be similar with a scoop neckline and tiers which you could make whatever length you want. There are other patterns available in their range with other sleeve styles that can be used with that pattern as well to give more style options. Good luck rescuing your beautiful fabric.

      @@whatbecsewssorry with that pattern I didn’t have to change it, it was all good. I have tried other patterns which had darts etc in them but found they were gapping at front and instead of fiddling I just added a seam in the front and stitched on either side of the seam to make it sort of decorative and looking like it was part of the pattern in case some eagle eyed person saw it 😆and also when its a busy pattern you don’t really notice it. I think my problem is the same as you, top bust is smaller than bust size plus for the love of it I can not get my head around doing a full bust adjustment, I try to use patterns that already have done it for me 😂

    So sorry about your dress Becki, that’s so frustrating after the work you put in. I also have shoulder issues in Tilly patterns, maybe she needs a different block as lots of people seem to have the same issue. Could you add some waist ties to the dress to bring it in a bit? Such a shame about your dress. Could you bear to take it apart and just make it a bit smaller around the neckline? One dress that I have made similar to the Indigo is the Anna Allan Demeter dress which has a lovely deep scoop neck on it. I have only made it once and it did come out a bit big but I made it in double gauze which always grows a bit!
