    Possibly the best bench side overview of crossbows for hunting in general I've seen. Huge issue I had was a false sense of confidence at close range. Last season, shooting 400fps, I had a buck completely duck the string at 30 yards (on video- showing the miss in real time & in slow motion, ) (1) Rut Success 2 big bucks down - CZcams at 01:38 , crossbows are loud - aim low in the kill zone! I was completely flustered, with a crossbow shoot low, shoot low, shoot low, heart shots especially on shots from 30 to 50 yds. Great video Justin!

    Great video, love the crossbow content. Hunting is hunting , I use whatever I feel like at the time. I own lots of rifles and shotguns as well as three crossbows and a compound bow. I'd hunt with a sharp stick if I had to. Just get out there and enjoy the outdoors and get some groceries that weren't raised in a pen and pumped full of drugs and chemicals.

    No crossbow hating here. We’re all in the same sport here, we all have our weapons of choice....stick together!

    I like that you added the broadhead question. I shoot rocky mountain fix blade crossbow broad heads out of my Mathews vertix and they fly amazing only minor tuning

    I have a military buddy who bow hunts elk in idaho, many of the elk he shoots are within ten feet when he releases…. Good camouflage and eliminating your scent are musts to get close!

    Thanks for the video Justin. I definitely need to get some lighted nocks. Four out of my last six deer were harvested with a crossbow and I am yet to see the bolt entering the deer. I try during target practice and still have a hard time seeing it fly, lol. Also not sure why compound guys look down on crossbows. I've had a deer jump my string at 20 yards.

      Compound guys look down on the crossbow guys saying they're cheating in the sport so why don't they just go back to using the traditional same deal If the guy is hunting legally in his state just leave him alone and let him hot with what he wants to see what I say they're buying the tags they're putting in the time quit Putting them down for doing what they love and is legal

    Such a helpful video! Thank you so much!
    Question for me is what grade of crossbow is the minimum needed for something bigger than whitetail? Elk and Moose specifically.
    Obviously be as close as possible, but I'm asking about the FPS, broadhead grain and bolt grain.
    What I have right now is a Bear X Trek 380, along with 100 grain mechanical broadheads (intended for deer only) along with the bolts that came in box with my crossbow of 370 grains AND a pack of 6 extra bolts I got on eBay that are 385.
    I do understand that opting for heavier grain breadhead and bolt means more efficient power transfer because you are firing something heavier, but could even a base model crossbow like mine, manage such a task? (I'm certainly not planning on hunting moose this year, you need to be drawn for them here in Saskatchewan)
    But it would be cool to try! I mostly need more practice with it and first I need a target it can't punch a hole on so I stop loosing my bolts! Hardcore haybales do not cut it!

    Been hunting with a xbow for decades...i'm from Ohio...one downside of the xbow is it's total weight. If you do alot of still hunting it can get heavy....chose for your hunting style.

    Does it matter what grain of broadhead you use my bow came with 100 grain can I use a 125 grain?

    I don't understand the crossbow hating why it's a part of hunting like a rifle or a compound bow. And not everyone is physically able to shoot a compound bow, and it is more of a challenge than a gun. I hunted with all three and my favorite is the crossbow.

    specific question but on mechanicals with shock collars, can it be too tightly screwed together? or with the impact, it will most definitely open regardless of how tightly it is screwed in or locked in I should say (the barbs)

    • @bowhuntordie
      @bowhuntordie  Před 3 lety +2

      These days, there are very few mechanical broadheads that will fail to open. Especially with how fast crossbows are shooting now, with the heavy impact, they should always open.

    I have a question about nocks, moon or other ? i have moon nocks on my bolts but that's how they came i was looking for lighted nocks to install on my bolts but im seeing a lot of nocks that how would you say clip in to the string like on a compound bow. I did not know you could use anything other than a moon nock on a crossbow. Does the type of crossbow depend on what kind of nock to use or can i use any style of nock on any style of crossbow?

    • @bowhuntordie
      @bowhuntordie  Před 2 lety

      Nock design is usually specific to the type of crossbow that you're shooting. I don't believe there are any crossbow nocks that actually clip on to the string - most of them are either flat for moon/crescent shape. Be sure to look at Lumenock brand lighted nocks. They have the best lighted nock options for crossbows.

      What a silly thing to even take the time to not only consider but to legally condemn. Way to go ID legislators and DNR Officials.
