    I bought one 2 years ago and it has not had a problem except for a bad battery in the first 200 miles. I have built it out for overlanding and it is just a very solid truck. It does everything asked of it which is more than I ask of my other trucks. People who own them for what they are never get rid of them. The ones who sell them only buy them for status on the boulevard and never find out what they can really do. Sway bar disconnect in conjunction with the articulink arms give it a ramp index articulation score way above any other pickup.

    Last May I traded my 2WD Ram Laramie in on a lightly used 2022 Power Wagon that the previous owner had spent a butt-load of money on upgrades, then decided he wanted a diesel. His loss was my gain since I had the receipts for the $30,000 he had spent on suspension, tires and rims, lights, air bags in the rear, throttle response controller Spod, onboard air compressor etc. etc. etc.! I just got back from an offroad trip to New Mexico and like Jason says, "WHAT A BEAST!". I've owned at least a dozen 4X4s over the years from Jeeps to F350's and everything in between, even a 1962 Power Wagon but hands down the new Power Wagon is THE most capable full size off-road vehicle made today.

    I have a 2015. Always change the oil on time and document it with receipts showing you used only the required Penzoil. Always do the transmission fluid on time and document. Always tow in tow mode. Never idle it. Never hyper mile it. Accept that it gets 10-12 mpg and embrace it. Mileage will destroy your resale value very fast. Be aware it is easy to overheat the winch, when it overheats it will switch off and it may be over 30 minutes before you can use it again. Lockers and sway bar disconnect only work in low range. In low the torque at idle is almost enough to overcome the braking force. Stick to 35s. The 37s will slow it down, hinder braking, and destroy the 66rfe transmission faster. 35 is the biggest spare that will fit. It’s a great truck. Don’t commute in it and do the maintenance on time. Love my truck, would suggest some kind of warranty.

However do yourself a favor, buy a lease back, 99.5% of the time the frame hasnt got a spec of mud on it, they rarely leave the city limits, their owners, who I have talked to many times actually have no clue how many of the features on their truck even work. As for the 6.4 Hemi I thought it was a very well built, strong motor and I believe it has more iron material in the block making it more rigid and piston cooling jets! Built a number of 4x4's (and loved torching off independent suspensions to install beam axles) and in 2005 bought my first Power Wagon. It was stolen last year when it had over 350000 miles on the odometer and zero high dollar or drivetrain problems. I now own a 2022 we bought used after the theft. I'm loving mine. Superb piece of machinery. Since the hemi tick is the most controversial issue: Change oil every 5k using an oil with some zinc in it; occassionally drive it in eco mode to flow oil in the switching passages; avoid extended idling, or keep the rpm up around 1000 to 1500 to keep idle oil pressure up (I'm going to design a controller for this since there are times I need ta lengthy idle).

    I have been a Ford guy all my life, but quality issues have caused me to look elsewhere. I had a couple of Ram 2500’s for my business, and they were very good trucks, but when they began putting the ZF 8 transmissions in them, it was game over. There is nothing on the market that can compete with the 6.4 Hemi and the ZF 8 transmission power train. These trucks get run hard, they constantly tow heavy loads ( quite often overloaded ), and there has been absolutely no issues.

  • @jeffissimo1221
    @jeffissimo1221 Před 15 dny

    The Power Wagon was always on my short list of trucks, but I need that bedside graphic delete option. However, in reality, it is so much more truck than I would ever need. In 2023 I ended up trading in my '16 JKU Rubicon for a Tacoma TRD Offroad. While the Tacoma has been reliable thus far, the transmission is something I worry about daily. It shifts so much and at the weirdest times. There are two major complaints and one minor with it so far. 1) Perceivably unpredictable acceleration either by engine response or transmission shifting followed by harder than expected downshifting (gear ratio spacing?) while coasting. 2) Unpredictable braking... pressure from the master cylinder drops too much with decreasing RPMs. 3) The rear seat area has less volume than my Wrangler. As far as the mechanical complaints go, I think the truck physically requires higher RPMs while the tune profile is set for efficiency. It's fighting itself at times. As far as the Power Wagon goes, check out a 1957- 1960 Power Wagon. That is "old school cool." They even came with a PTO winch built in between the frame rails.

    The Hemi tick must be the most overblown issue I’ve ever heard of , it’s written in the manual that it’s perfectly normal , is mainly from oil bleed usually when sitting around for a period of time does no damage and can be completely solved by using slightly thicker oil.

    I got to test drive a 2020 Power Wagon with the 4.10 gear ratio, a brand new 2500 Laramie with the 3.73 gear ratio, and just sat in a GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 to feel the size difference, huge difference. I own a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab SLT, I like the bigger trucks. The Power Wagon and Laramie drove pretty similarly as far as ride quality, obviously a big difference between the powertrains, I like the gas motor with 4.10 gear ratios the most. The Power Wagon may be a bit overkill with all the off road features, but it is an amazing truck! More comfortable seats than the GM trucks, haven't gotten to sit in a newer nicer Ford truck yet. The FX4 2023 F350 with the 6.8 gas V8 we have at work is nice, but the front end is so stiff, you feel every bump. Still liking the Ram 2500's the best out of the newer HD trucks.

Do you think the locking front diff is really worth it? 4WD and a rear locker in a 6000lb truck has proven to be very capable in the winter weather and muddy backroads. I'm not planning on doing any rock crawling. When has the front locking diff really come in handy? I know the front locker is better to have because of the weight over the front axle which may be more important for something like a Jeep or midsized truck, not nearly as heavy.
