Interesting how for Tarantulas his transmetal design is usually the basis of his design. His Earthspark and IDW designs are just the transmetal design.

Transmetal Rattrap was the first Beast Wars Transformer that I have ever owned. I am surprised that we have not seen new incarnations of this line.
That Hasbro photographer had more than one idea for how to pose that Elita-1 mold. Through a careful mix of subtle differences, each character has their own distinct pose. There is "holding two guns" versus "hand on hip", "legs side by side" versus "left foot forward with right foot angled behind", and "looking forward" versus "looking to the side".
If I had to propose alternate uses for a new Rampage mold, it would definitely be for Octopunch and Shokaract.
Trans metal Cheetor could get a small remold to be the clubs transmetal Tigratron. They could also come up with new repaints, either truly new, or a homage.
I think the only transmetals they’ll do is dragon Megatron, tigerhawk, Rampage, and Depth Charge, I don’t think we’re gonna get the forms for the other characters for a long time
They're all popular characters and trademark renewals. Hasbro knows they'll sell so there's a pretty good chance we'll get everyone from seasons 2 and 3. It's easy money.
I hope they do Tarantulas.

Metallic paint would totally work for Transmetals and the can't use cost as an excuse for that look at Marvel Legends and all their Iron Mans. Rattrap would be a problem if they kept him core class, but wait wasn't the original a basic and then the transmetal a deluxe? I wouldn't mind them doing the same here as well (besides we need to be able to pose Kingdom Dinobot riding him. Wouldn't be able to do that with a Core Class version )
They could also use high-gloss paint or a high-gloss finish. I've also seen sombody brush graphite powder--believe it or not--on an action figure to make it really shiny.

Not every toy gets repainted though, even those that have obvious choices. We still don’t have a repaint of Needlenose, Pointblank or Blitzwing from Legacy. Going back to Kingdom, where are the Warpath and Slammer repaints?
What toys should be the rare occasion of never being repainted? And is there really a difference between a regular release and a Selects release in choice of character and color scheme?
I thought the blitzwing was repainted into a Megatron?

I'm honestly more surprised we haven't gotten Packrat out of Kingdom Rattrap than I am about the Transmetals. The only Transmetals from the series with unique trademarks are Rampage and Depth Charge. They rest are season 1 characters who have all had their trademarks used in the last couple of years. The way Hasbro is with their trademarks, I won't be surprised if they wait until the Beast Wars cast needs them renewed before they get any more toys.
Transmetals have so many repaints. The fox kids, Universe versions, armada versions, so each mold has repaint potential.
NGL while it would be awesome to see transmetals again I can understand them wanting to finish the show cast first.
I've wanted them to do transmetals with a subline of G1 characters getting beast modes. Transmetal tarantulas, but later a Shockwave version.
At least we got a Power of the Primes Optimal Optimus back in 2018.
And Transmetal 2 Megatron.

I think I’m the only person who wants Hasbro to do TM1 Airazor, Rhinox, Terrorsaur and -red and teal Starscream- Waspinator as much as the show TM1s. Not only do you get built-in repaints (the Armada colors; potentially part of a Herald of Unicron-themed four-pack for Target or Selects), but you get an opportunity for Fox Kids Transmetal Rhinox (who I view as “Beast Machines Rhinox” in my personal canon), Fractyl (because HasTak loves BotCon homages these days… but he needs a Packrat to go with him) and Starscream colors TM Waspinator (from the Transmetals video game).
Regarding the show TMs, here’s who I think could be done at what size class:
DELUXE
Rattrap (throw in a Transmutate minifigure in order to justify him being short)

Ravage (potential retool of Cheetor?)

Depthcharge should be a leader and both tarantulas and TM 2 cheetor should be a voyager. Depthcharge was like twice the size of rattface when he was a transmetal.
Is “not well known enough” really a restriction these days? We’ve just recently had several characters and color schemes that are super obscure. If they were willing to give us Antagony, Nacelle, Skywasp, Nightprowler, Cloudcover, Nemesis Leo Prime, Toxitron, Galaxy Shuttle, Kaskade and Javelin, I don’t see Ultra Mammoth as being too unknown for them to do who is basically Beast Wars Ultra Magnus. Plus even if people don’t know a character or where they came from, they would just think of that obscure character as being another completely new character which we also regularly get.
There’s also Black Big Convoy, Blue Big Convoy, Nemesis Prime and Animated Megadeath as potential repaints.

This isn't as difficult as you're making it sound. Metallic paint instead of chrome is fine, and I would prefer that. The engineering is no more complicated than what they're doing now. Modern Transformers have way more pieces and more complex transformations than Transmetals, even with vehicle modes. The only argument where I have to concede is the repaint potential, but I'd be fine with buying Fox Kids! versions as long as the molds are good. In my opinion, the Transmetals molds were the best Transformers ever produced, and simply updating them with the same transformations and ankle pivot, minus the chrome, would be perfect for me. They probably wouldn't do Rhinox, but he's my favorite. I really, really doubt they would do a whole Transmetal line. They would probably be sprinkled in one per wave, especially if the engineering is as challenging as you think it is.

I second this. However, given how Hasbro handled Tasmania Kid/Snarl, perhaps they could use Beast Wars Trilogy Part 1 to knock out some of the molds needed to flesh out Lio, Galvatron, Big, and Magmatron’s crews. Diver gets you Spittor, B’Boom and Apache are pretty much identical, Scuba and Ikard get you Claw Jaw, and the Magnaboss trio and Tripredacus Council could net us some Selects repaints of them as the other Magnaboss trio and the Jointrons.

The core class predaking is a pretty neat idea and if we were to get an update for a “scale” version it’s probably the titan reissue it works and I think trademarks on those characters are coming up so we’ll see what’s gonna happen.
For transmetals the wrecker leadfoot has a metallic like paint on the legs so maybe use some of that on the figures or have some plastic parts have like a light glitter effect.
2 transmetals I really wanna see is rampage and depth charge. Depthcharge might not be all that bad to update cause the vehicle is the wings folded up but rampage the robot to crab works the tank is gonna be hard. We can’t do rubber treads so you could just fold the legs or have some type of sculpting to kinda look like treads but the tank will be the weakest mode
Cheetor is actually really easy for repaints/remolds. X-9 Ravage and Botcon Tigatron both use the mold and they're both pretty highly sought after figures
Honestly, I’d think rampage would be a commander class. He’s a big imposing triple changer, he’d need a bit budget.
My thoughts exactly - been thinking for years how Transmetals could be done alongside all the other cyberbeasts we got across Transformers' history. Partially because I REALLY want Transmetals and G1 Pretender beasts.

Rattrap was always a difficult rodent to deal within his Transmetals mode.
I've been thinking about how they'll incorporate the transmetals at some point and honestly, assuming they stick largely with the size classes that line up at least roughly with their show scale, I think there shouldn't be too much of a hassle in terms of incorporating all of the expected features. Tarantulas and Megatron probably get upscaled compared to their original releases (Transmetal Tarantulas, as you noted, is a bit more complicated for the vehicle mode integration and is also quite a bit bigger than his original character model, Transmetal Megatron was always too small in his original toy, even if his features aren't *that* complicated). The hardest one to do is definitely Rampage, he's got the most complicated third mode that kind of needed the rubber tread to pull off (sculpted details and tiny wheels on the legs might be a necessary compromise), they could honestly get away with him as a Commander or Leader so his compromises would likely be dictated from there. Everyone else I don't think is super hard to keep roughly as they were, repaint wise, I'm in favor of doing some of the old Botcon repaints where possible (can we say Ape-Linq is too obscure after he was in a live action movie???) but possibly some more inventive remolds that are less obvious (the recent Strongarm and Shadow Striker come to mind) could be fun too. I find it hard to imagine they'll ever dedicate a line to JUST beasts, they seem to be hitting a decent stride with the cross-continuity variety. I also think the Big Convoy to Optimus Prime retool is a bit strange, especially when Universe Nemesis Prime is RIGHT THERE, if they were that concerned about getting Optimus on the shelf, they could honestly just rename Big Convoy as Optimus Prime, satisfies retailers, and probably only annoys a very niche part of the fandom who weren't going to be over the moon for "Big Prime" or "Mammoth Prime" anyways.
If we did that, I’d demand a Cybertron Scourge (which can be remolded into Prime Predaking), Cybertron Snarl (can be done into any wolf BW characters), Terrorsaur could be repainted/molded into Brimstone, and make some kind of Core Class for Undermine and/or Backstop.
They also made Beast Wars Ravage with out vac-metal
A new Skullsmasher can be Crocodile Optimus Prime In a re-tool/repaint then you can make original beast wars Crocodile Megatron retool/ repaint.
Retool the shell for Big Convoy and make beast wars II Santon to go with skywarp repaint Leo Convoy and make Leo Junior.
For fun make Waspinator mold into the colors of a Bee and give him a new head, beast wars Bumblebee 20:18
Neat idea, but I think the more likely thing is that Hasbro just sprinkles them in with the rest of whatever fan service line they have planned next. Transmetals aren't really that hard to implement as the majority of them like Cheetor, Rattrap, or Megatron barely change for a 3rd mode. We're talking about a couple of extra parts flipping out, not a legit 3rd mode like a triple changer. They don't need to reinvent the wheel here. Take the same beats and design queues from the origionals, and update the articulation. Some may be a little trickier than others like Taranchulas or Rampage, but in those cases, just up size class. Make Taranchulas a voyager and Rampage a commander class. There's plenty of random repaints they can do just as they did with the updated season 1 cast.

Yeah having the Transmetals be line and do what you suggested would be fun.
I do think Hasbro has shown a bit more of a willingness to do "single use" molds in the last few years, or at least push the repaints/retools to non-mainline avenues more regularly, but I think your central point is strong.
Honestly, for me, if they had to compromise one of the three modes for the Transmetals, I'd rather than leave out the animal mode instead. Rattrap almost never was just a rat, he pretty much exclusively used his roadster mode instead. Tarantulas is probably the one who'd be hurt the most by that, though. But I think you hit the overall nail on the head. The level of complexity, combined with increased accuracy, and the overall toy economics are working against them.
Also, the Armada Cheetor was the best looking of all the Transmetal repaints. You're just wrong about this one, sorry.

I think the idea would be good but i have a question.
If you could make a beast wars series were both Maximals and Predacons have armies, how would they look like ?
Since the Decepticons have Seekers and Photons while the Autobots have Autotroopers . But what about the Maximals And Predacons ? Would they have it based of their logos like having the Preds get and army of wasps and scorpions and the Maximals an army of wolves and tigers (since the maximals logo is a mix of both) this idea has been going around my mind for a while .
If you ask me, we should retire the recent idea that Scorponok is but one of many Scorponok drones. It’s ridiculous.
The Maximal “Autotrooper”, going off of the toyline(s) seems to be split between the big cat (Cheetor/Tigatron/Ravage) and squid (Claw Jaw/Ikard/Scuba) body types. Conversely, the Predacon “Vehicon” seems to be split between the wasp body types (Waspinator/Buzzsaw/Thrustor) and pterodactyl body types (Terrorsaur/Lazorbeak/Hydra). Admittedly, Thrustor and Ravage are cheating given the former’s nature as a Cyborg Beast and the latter only sharing Cheetor and Tigatron’s body types when he’s a Transmetal/thanks to his Kingdom toy being a Cheetor retool, but still.
With Transmetal Cheetor, the repaint is a Botcon character, Cataclysm. We’ve had retail releases of previous “Botcon only” characters, so it’s something they’ve already done. Cataclysm is Cheetor in Constructicon colors, who never had a figure. He was featured in the Botcon comics but never in plastic. So theres one option right there.
I think a Transmetal Cheetor can be made out of the Kingdom Cheetor mould. Retool the bot and beast mode heads and retool the side panels of the alt mode to include thrusters, a simple redeco, and boom you have a good enough Transmetal Cheetor.
personally, i think the g1 Predacons would work best as this hypothetical line's Core class. especially as a counterpart to LegEvo's Volcanicus.
(also by being small, they can potentially be redecoed into some Pretender and Action master homages. (Rampage into Catilla, Headstrong into Stranglehold, etc)
also, one idea i could interject into this line, use the Beast wars 2 Insectrons as this line's "Izer" gimmick. (and their predacon counterparts as gen selects) with the potential to take a bunch of them, paint them purple and black, release as a Box set to make Violen Jiger.

Optimal optimus is a transmetal 2 even in power of the prime. You could try to say it's an homage to his transmetal 1 but the figure is clearly TM2
I have the Ravage repaint of Cheetor from Beast Wars. That's another one they could do again with that mold.
Beast Wars Transmetal Cheetor was repainted to be Covert Agent Ravage (Beast Wars Metals Jaguar).

i would really like to see a minor redesign of Transmetal Rhinox with the molding. maybe give him large, detailed cannons that peg into the sides of the rear thighs in Rhino mode that fold down into rear treads for Transport mode, and end up on the back of Robot mode. they could have thick designs with perforated panels, chainsaw bayonets, etc. really 90's industrial look! they'll fold up and then down in transport mode and go over the shoulders in robot mode. i dunno, just always wanted him to be more tank-like and have a bit of an evolution of his old buzzsaw/gatling guns, maybe with integrated grenade launchers alongside the rotary barrels?
I would love a new Rampage figure, but I feel like an accurate, properly sized version of the character would be hard to fit in a leader class budget, if it's even possible. Getting an Optimal Optimus in commander class would be pretty cool, maybe adding in G1 Prime's spark as one of the accessories.

For the Transmetals, I would first off copy the original designs and update the articulation, with Rattrap to deal with the back pack, a simple pull up and spin the back pack around and push down, it's not hard, they are being lazy, for TM2 Cheator, retool studio series figure
I really hope we get more out of this. Mainly because I want figures of Cataclysm and Cryotek.
Another route they could go for with Beast Wars are the toy-exclusive bots, like the Fuzors or even characters like Retrax or Wolfang. I would honestly love to see a modern mainline take on Retrax, the vintage toy is fun to mess with imo and it'd be nice to see it modernized
and If they did a Big Convoy, they could easily remold him into Ironhide from that one beast wars combiner. We already have Skywarp from that same combiner.
They could probably get away with making tarantulas a voyager if they pack in his spider drones as well as his gun
I think if they were to do rhinox and airazor, they should have headsculpts that are less toy accurate and more hypothetical show accurate, where they have the core facial structure and features of the season 1 designs but the design features and colors of the new transmetals, you know, just like what the show did (with the exception of primal for some reason).
Another random but fun figure they COULD do if they did the Robotic animals line, would be "CROCTIMUS PRIME" from that One episode form G1 XD
Here’s an idea that they can work. Why not use full-size version of the Casette bots after all, it allows Hasbro to keep the trade marks on those characters and a something new with them. After all, there’s only so many ways you can redesign their classic engineering, but make them full figure. It has a lot more interesting avenues.
Counterpoint: Ditch the full-animal modes for the vehicle component on the purely Beast Wars characters so there's more playablity and novelty with some. And others can look cooler. The G1 Predaking Predacons and Monstructor Monster Pretenders can stay as they are, and any G1 repaints and retools can get the full animal modes to be different altogether...
As someone who was a child when Transformers debuted, even way back with the toyline original Micronauts, US retail, my favorites have been G1, Beast Wars, and Prime. Nothing against any of the others, it's personal taste. Haters, that's your problem, not mine.
Going off of the Animal Pretender Repaint idea, it could easily be reversed as well. Stylized Chainclaw into all new Transmetal Polar Claw mayhaps?

Boy, what a difference a year makes. This time last year, Hasbro was looking at a bonanza year. 2 movies of its own (D&D and RotB) and movie tie-in to half a dozen more. 2023 looked like Hasbro's year. Like I said, what a difference. In light of the layoffs, the office closures and the glut of movie merch still on shelves, Hasbro's assessment isn't close to this rosy picture. If this were 2022, I could see the Transmetals as a subline like Velocitron or G2 Toxitron, an opportunity to repaint existing figures and extend the life and profitability of the figures. Transmetals would star a blue repainted Cryotek and his gang before the golden disk theft. A mix and match hodgepodge of previous deluxes with metallic paint and some salvaged form of the weaponizers to give the beasts their vehicle mold like a Red Cog with wings, jet engines wheels and such. Maybe even a remold of the RotB merch to help clear out the unused movie stock.
But in our timeline, Hasbro has to minimize costs and maximize profits. So Transmetal is going to be a small informal pairing like Armada. I predict Depth Charge and Rampage but at Leader class not Voyager. Quickstrike and Silverbolt will be the second pair like Hot Shot and Starscream. But the main focus of this year will be the 40th anniversary and celebrating ALL transformers.
If I could make a recommendation. Hasbro should make up a story that reimagines the Terrorocons and Maximals in a way that helps sell the remaining stock. Something along the lines of the first Robots in Disguise using the remained Beast Wars/Beast Machine figures.

Not really since it isn't asymmetrical and doesn't have any organic component in its design. Also, the original toy was advertised as "Transmetals" and not "Transmetals 2".

TJ could singlehandedly get Hasbro millions if theyd only listen to his ideas cus this is GENIUS and it sounds like itd be such a cool and unique toyline, and it would also feel so fresh to finally get out of the g1 slog, tho granted, Legacy has been very good at breaking that status quo but theres still a lot of g1 so this could really reinvigorate the line and even get a lot of new fans in cus robotic beasts that turn into robots are a sick idea that I feel like so many 10-15 year olds could get a real crack out of
Honestly I think a good way to do Transmetals is do updates to the ones that never appeared in the show, like Airazor. That way you don't have to deal with show accuracy. Oh and we need a Nyx, and she could be a repaint/remold as Bat Primal. Regardless HasTak could go about this in sooooo many ways. Eventually I think they will cave, eventually.
Well, if we did new Transmetals molds I wonder what they'll be retooled/recolored into. Y'know how Hasbro has to get milage out of the toolings.
@@GladDestronger As someone else said, Airrazor, Silverbolt, and Cheetor could be their Armada Unicron counterparts. Transmetal Waspinator could not only be a new Dirgegun, but also an alternative Seeker mold(a Beast Seeker mold would be epic btw).

I wish non show Beast Wars characters could get new toys too other than an odd repaint/slight remold here and there, I know it's very unlikely seeing as the cartoon nostalgia is the major selling point of new BW toys and media significance is always a priority, but it's kind of a shame to me that it always takes precedent over just cool toys for the sake of it. Same with G2, plenty of cool original figures there that will probably never get proper updates cause no big cartoon or comic significance.
at least you're not as stuck as the bay-verse fans, there's always third party options for some CHUG scaled toys.

I'm not entirely sure on the whole repaint argument. Shadow Panther aside, every BW redeco or retool was store exclusive.
It seems like Hasbro is hedging their bets on Wal-Mart, Target, and Amazon being willing to continue funding exclusive sublines to recoup the production costs, since mass release BW repaints have been rather rare.

Dragon Megatron didn't have he's vehicle mode. You could kind of fan mode it but they stripped it as they should because it was stupid. The POTP Optimal Optimus didn't have his "Tank" (or whatever you want to call it) mode. If they don't want to do them then strip the of those modes because I'm sure most people don't display them in those modes anyway. I really don't think no one would care. I think the designer could very easily remake all the ones from the show with all modes with no issues. I just don't think they want to do it.
a few notes to add that could make the transmetal line even easier; add more of the earlier wave beasts, Fuzors, Transmetals II, and even the unused concept designs for Fuzor Optimus Primal and Megatron. By not limiting the line to on-screen characters they open themselves up to a lot more characters to work with. It would be a good opportunity to give us that Polar Claw toy that was teased when Kingdom was announced, which could then be redecoed into the character from Beast Wars Neo. If they release a toy like Apache/B'Boom, its third mode would easily fit the aesthetic of the line. In addition, minor retools can easily turn some of the fuzors into other single-beast characters based on those who share similar engineering (for example, the dragonfly Jetstorm and Sky Shadow, whose toys share a lot of engineering cues). I'm surprised the Rhinox figure was never retooled into Santon, considering most of the changes they'd have to make would be in the figure's head and shoulders. And while we're at it, why not retool the Waspinator and Dinobot figures into Dirgegun and Thrustor from Beast Wars II? There's already evidence to suggest we're going to get something resembling Starscream and BB, right? Hell, the Core Rattrap figure could easily be redecoed into Packrat and the Terrorsaur figure has at least four other potential characters that it can be redecoed into (Lazorbeak, Hydra, Fractyl, and Strafe). There are plenty of ways they can bulk out the toyline if they're willing to get creative.

Well...for Beast Modes...they still have BW:2 and Neo to pull from. While originally I'd be scoffing along with everyone else... Tasmania Kid. He's not even one of the more cult fan characters. We've already had exposure to Hellscream, Longrack, and ALL the Neo dinosaur molds in repaints or new remolds so...who knows.
Not saying I do want TM new toys. Love Rattrap, Depthcharge, Rampage, and Megs designs, and definitely want TM Terrasaur, Waspinator, and Air Razor.

Beast Wars isn’t close to being done. We still have BW 2nd, Neo, Beast Machines and you could even count RID 2001 partially.
And then they could do toy only redecoes like Polar Claw (finally) from Survive and Razorbeast from Randy etc.
And yes, Quickstrike should definitely be a Deluxe. The snake arm is too much mass for a Core class figure.
TM Tarantulas should be a Voyager to scale right.

I'll adress the chrome first: it's unnecessary. The transmetals don't need to be shinier than everybody else.
Next, the vehicle modes: they are essential. The vehicle modes are what separate the transmetals from all other cybertronians that turn into robotic animals. The only ones I can see being a real challenge to revise are Rattrap and Rampage but I'd be fine with all the transmetals being nearly identical to their 90s counterparts just with a little more articulation for their robot modes. What I would like to see are a transmetal Rattrap and Rampage that can actually stand up in robot mode, so they should try to make them a little less back-heavy and top-heavy.
Finally, the repaints: sorry, but I like Armada Cheetor. I'd be fine with them going with the past repaints.
As much as I would love to see the transmetals get another chance, I don't see it happening. The season 1 characters in their season 1 forms are more iconic and therefore a safer bet.

I'd rather get the Seacons then predicons in the legends scale. Predicons get wasaaay to much toy rep from Hasbro and 3rd party by comparison
