I like the Megazord aesthetic of Energon Optimus. The funny thing is, I actually saw the âyear of the snakeâ Optimus prime on targetâs website the other day. I kind of prefer that version, because it means the Optimus prime itself is more red than gray and silver.
The last worst toys of Optimus Prime looks like something right from a rejected BIONICLE Toy instead of a Transformer.

And yet was still better than any of the Power-Core Combiners since Energon Optimus Super Mode has proper elbows.

Power Core Combiners wasn't that bad... I'd say it's better then energon prime, just cause there's more variety with the drones. I will admit that's kinda my nostalgia talking, i used to love that line

I read that the Alternators toy being an Optimus was at Takara's request. Pickup trucks are apparently not as popular in Japan, so they feared it wouldn't sell well unless it was a big-name character like Optimus. And then they went and had their first use of the mold be Ginrai instead.
Ginrai had been cancelled and bineltech was reworked into _shivers_ kiss players and he came out as a resurrected Optimus.

@@diegodankquixote-wry3242 yea but it's still was released in binaltech line in 2008. So, there's plastic alternators version, plastic but painted kiss players version, and die-cast binaltech version.
Also, the drop test made for a horrible change on this one. You can't extend his legs the whole way. There is a mod you can do to put it back to the way it was designed and it helps his proportions a ton.
I honestly canât hate Authentics. Sure theyâre hollow and they lack in articulation and paint but theyâre made to be dirt cheap so folks who canât afford how pricy mainline figures are can still enjoy transformers and I think thatâs pretty neat

I just can't hate Energon Optimus Prime. I never had the toy, but Energon was my first exposure to the franchise. So I have a soft spot for him.
Energon gets hated on way too much, even when we have much worse. Cybertron has more issues than Energon.
I always like when you do videos like this. I've learned so many things about Transformers because of this channel.

TransScan sounded like a pretty awesome concept, it's just executed very poorly.... also, I seriously wanted Energon Optimus Prime as a kid knowing I was both a Transformers and Power Rangers nut but luckily, I got the far superior Cybertron Optimus Prime.

It was fun to play with, but for me it's all the comprimises that had to be made to fit in the lights and sounds in the torso that really hurt it. If they hadn't had them, I think they could have done a lot more with the engineering of it, and made it a lot better as a Transformer.
Iâm still hoping for a commander class update maybe haslab if it means wingsaber gets included
It is legitimately one of my holy grail figures. I want one so bad, maybe a couple of them to make mono drone combinations
@@zegop5736 Considering we're still waiting for Armada Jetfire and Overload to go with Optimus... Haslab might be the best place. We'd also need an Energon Omega Supreme to complete the set.
I was going to say I'm surprised Kiss Player Prime didn't make the list on principle alone, but when I looked into it, I found out it's just Alternators Prime again plus a figure of a half-dressed anime girl of questionable age.
Somehow Takara made Alternators Prime even worse.
tfwiki says that it's takara who asked to make that mold Optimus, because pickup's aren't selling well in japan.
And it's not just some anime girl, it's Faireborn (the one from from season 3) of questionable age. And each kiss players figure had audio drama cd, with things like battle in stomach.
Transformers Go Optimus Exprime becomes a middle piece, not a top or bottom piece for the combination.
And the other thing about Authentics - yes, they're extremely simplified, cheap toys meant for consumers on a budget, but - especially with the earlier waves of Authentics figures - they CAN actually look good with some paint.
I have a number of the older Alpha and Bravo Authentics figures, and since I also build Gundam models, I've got a lot of quick-drying Gundam Marker paints. I painted my Authentics toys up, and they actually look good with all the details restored (including my Bravo class Prime, despite his massive truck cab backpack - my only gripe with him is his weird hand holes that make it impossible for me to give him a gun, a flaw the larger Alpha class doesn't have).
They're also pretty sturdy and have quick no-nonsense transformations, which makes them ideal desk toys. A fully-painted Authentics Bravo class is the sort of thing that would be a nice stress reliever on the office desk. The ones that mainly made your "worst Primes" list can't even fulfill THAT role.
I remember having jungle planet Optimus prime. He was indeed a lacklustre toy but I am thinking of getting him back for the sake of nostalgia.(either for Christmas or after I move.)

A lot of the older authentics toys aren't amazing, but how bad they are gets overblown (albeit, the one in the video is the absolute worst, alongside Starscream)
They're targeted mainly at lower income families who's kids are into transformers, because proper transformers are pretty pricey compared to other toys.
@@cyankoopa8111 well I get that, but anytime I see authentics figures (which is rarely, inside like grocery stores) they never are sold, which may just be because of where I live, but it just surprises me that they even are sold anymore
The Trans-Scanning figures honestly feels like those ideas that work better on paper than on plastic.

Titanium Optimus Prime and Megatron would have been great had they been fully plastic toys, I actually would love to see those designs make a come back in fully plastic figures.
Altenators prime is one the few Dodge ram srt10 models at that scale as the full size version only 10663 were made.
Energon Prime needed to be an actual combiner. One where maybe the Omnicons or whatever attached to it.
Robotmaster Optimus Prime is less like a revised G1 Prime, and more like an attempt to do Masterpiece MP01 Prime but on a much smaller budget.
I am a little bit guilty of having bought the Titanium Transformers back then, but I did sell them a while later. Live and learn... and yes, even the Megatron! đą

I can tell I was a naive Transformers fan in 2017 when i bought two of the Primes on this list đ
I always felt there was a misunderstanding in the fandom with calling Engeron Optimus (Known as Grand Convoy in Japan) a Megazord ripoff. Engeron Optimus is more meant to be a homage to the Brave Series, right down to when Optimus combines with his Drones, it looks very much like the FINAL FUSION combination sequence from Gaogaigar (Prime even does the same t-pose as Galeon). But I understand back then, a lot of Transformers fans may not have heard of the Brave series so the first thought may have been Power Rangers when we first saw him.
I know there is 0 chance for it, but Generations should revisit War Within.
i actually love classics deluxe prime. it is probably that he was one of my first tf toys but genuinely if his thighs collapsed for vehicle mode, the spinny gimmick was replaced by a swivel and the chest had a slider for vehicle mode, i think he would be amazing.
alternatively just do what the upcoming legacy deluxe does lol
I couldn't disagree more when it comes to Jungle Prime, I love the new design and it being a blend of more than one of his forms is fantastic

Just the base figure itself, I could never stand it up properly because of how top heavy he is, the trailer having no play function outside of being a glorified pair of pants that didn't really have much going for it in the first place
And the oversized cannon was ridiculous

Lol, I knew the classics Prime would be on here. Funny enough, I thought the robot mode looked fine at the time and really wanted the 2 pack. Glad I never got them because, ya, it's pretty rough
i'm kinda suprised you made this video without talking about the masterpiece optimus primes (mp-01 and mp-44) on this list. they're pretty wibbly with their QC.
Even with their bad QC they are very very far from the worst.

When I first started watching CZcams, I remember like Cybertron X aka Geekers (now I think?) and his series crappy toy reviews where he reviewed the machine wars figure.
I know a lot of people will mention ones like the deluxe classics 06 figure or the Robot Masters but at least those have kind of a cool look to them in the robot modes.
Machine wars fails on every level, especially considering, itâs a gutted Thunderclash

Well I still like my Armada BTR Jetfire and Night Attack Demolishor. The bigger Energon sets are better, however. I got Starscream and Scorponok last year, really nice. Starscream is good in both modes while Scorponoks better mode is his beast mode. Though I like Inferno too, the cannon he comes with looks better than Skyblast's.
Let's see, out of these I've got...
Energon Optimus. Honestly, if you take out the electronics from the torso and improve the engineering, I could see that being a lot better.
Titaninum, yeah dead on there. That thing would never stand without aid.
And the Classics. Now there is one thing about that junker I'll defend. The gun. I really like the design of it for some reason, and I'll ever so often give it to a different Optimus. In fact next to my computer Netflix Prime is dual weilding it right now.
Number 1 - atep 3 is a mess. Apart from that I would be very happy.

The Cybertron Optimus is actually a great toy. Yeah he doesnât have shoulder pads but the transformation is possibly the most interesting any ape Prime/Primal has had and that surfboard is just cool.
I'm surprised Fall of Cybertron Optimus doesn't make this list, but I guess he's okay compared to the others. I'm personally a fan of the first Beast Machines Optimus Primal, but I know that's not a popular opinion.
I have to say Galaxy Upgrade Prime. I really want a new Cybertron Prime, but that one just ain't it. A close second would be Combiner Wars Prime.
The worst thing about Robot Masters Optimus? The waist joint made of clear plastic.
I got one while I was in Korea as a kid, transformed it twice and it snapped in half. First time I ever broke a figure, forever on my shit list after that.

Personally, I'm not super interested in the 13 primes since most of them are kinda non characters or have so little characterization they havent quite nailed a specific design for them. HOWEVER, I would like to see what they do about Nexus Prime. If they go with the Fun Publication version, I think it would be really cool to see a modernization of the Energon Combiner formula. Ideally with regular hands (and maybe feet), I think those designs could actually be kinda cool looking, especially if they base it off a more unified color scheme like Nexus Prime's.

I actually like GO! Optimus Exprime. I think you can clean up the look of the robot mode if you don't display him with all the accessory parts. The dragon mode I'll admit is the weakest of his alt modes but when he has to be a tripple changer and a combiner I can forgive one mode not looking as good.
You are wrong about how the combined mode works by the way. He doesn't form the top half. He can only form the middle.
I can't remembed the names off hand right now so to make this simple, the leader of the vehicle team which is the police car guy, and the leader of the beast team, the Lion guy, are the ones who form the top and lower half of the combined mode. The reason it looks like Optimus is the torso is because Optimus comes with two accessory parts that are designed to go over their heads almost completly covering them up. Especially if you have the police car as the head pretty much only his arms are visible in combined mode. The lion shows up a little better as the torso cause that lion mane doesn't get completly covered by the Optimus Prime parts. But it's only the armor covering up the figures, the actual main body of the figure Optimus is in the mid section.
And I still wish we got Go! in the U.S. instead of RID2015 cause that series seems to be a much better Prime sequel actually using concepts from Prime that connect the two shows rather than RID2015 which didn't include anything from Prime till the end of season 2.
The Trans Scan figures are a good concept. I love the idea. It's just very poorly executed. And you know what, Bandai of Japan excuted a simular idea TWICE with Digimon.
The first time with the Armor Digimon. The toys in Japan were completly different molds than what we got here in America. Rather than having a Digi-egg that transforms directly into the Armor Digimon like we got Japan made Digi-eggs that came appart and attached onto transforming Rookie Digimon to form their Armor forms which was much more in line with how it worked in the show. Veemon could transform to form Flamedramon, Raidramon, or Magnamon.
The second time they did this again with the Spirit evolutions from Digimon Frontier. They all had the same basic black skeleton that would form the base of the figure. It was highly posible to be able to work with any of the spirit armors no matter how humanoid or beastly they might be. For whatever reason Bandai perfected the universal skeleton before Hasbro or Takara did and they've been making transforming toys a lot longer than Bandai has.
I like the alternators prime
We're never going to agree on Energon Optimus and Wing Saber. I like the way he does the combination gimmick, with each limb offering different advantages in arm mode, and the various "operation units" as I call them work for the mission of finding, excavating, and transporting Energon. Meanwhile Wing Saber only works when he's combining with Optimus, which is why I never got him. The plane is just not cool and the robot is more of a brick than Optimus.
We do agree that not-Primal from the anniversary figure is not very good looking. I didn't bother with him, either. I never really encountered the rest of this list.
I think Robotmasters and Classics suffers from not faux forming, either that or they didnât try hard enough to make it look good whilst not faux forming. No one really gives a scrap about faux forming.

I like some of the toys
The worst Optimus Prime in my collection (going by community standards) is Combiner Wars Optimus, but⊠I canât bring myself to hate it. Heâs easily flippable between molds, he poses well, and he looks good in both modes.
For reference, the only other Optimii I have are Siege GUOP (better than any use of the mold as a Magnus), the TLK repaint of the DOTM figure made almost entirely of clear plastic (so stupid he loops around to being fun), and a dinky little RID 2015 version of him that forms the upper torso of a combiner with Strongarm as his pants (which doesnât count based on TJâs rules).
Just gonna say it, even when it's a great version, Optimus prime is one of my least favorite transformers. Even when it's great he's mostly booring

Every time someone suggest we let Takara do show/line on their own, probably hoping for a new Unicron Trilogy, I remind them that the last time we let them cook on their own they gave us Transformers Go! Those toys are all awful.
The Optimus I dislike the most is Power of the Primes. Not the execution, but the concept. "Attach the trailer to Orion Pax to get Optimus Prime" just feels wrong. It makes it seem like Ultra Magnus should therefore be a Titan-class Russian nesting doll.
Odd, I think heâs pretty cool 2 figures in 1 and a power up option are good in my book

They really wanted to revisit Optimus combining with his trailer for a powered (no pun intended) up form. Especially since they did the same with Hot Rod becoming Rodimus Prime by combining with his trailer (I think)

Cybertron Optimus is the best ever but energon and armada especially armada are complete trash at least legacy made a great armada optimus but energon I don't know how u can fix that one

I wish they attempted the Robotmasters/Classics Prime concept again: a G1 Optimus Prime with no partsforming or fake parts. We finally saw SS86 Prime (the supposed ultimate retail version) and it fell flat on its face with that fake grill
That's a really harsh conclusion to make over one ultimately minor detail. Expecting animation accurate at the same time as no fake parts and retail level pricing is impossible.
Too me all the Bay verse and or live action Primes are crap
I still say Fatimus was the worst mainline Prime ever made.
The Fans Hoby Masterpiece version is almost acceptable.
