I'm gonna watch this separate from you - rather brilliant bc you Were There! - vid here. This was a "walking about" real-life your-own-experience platform & I loved it!
The mixed smell of Hawaiian Tropics, charcoal, beer, track dogs or tenderloins,”. The sound of yellow shirt whistles, helicopter blades, Purdue Band, and the Gordon Pipers. The sights of the grey lady slowly filling with bright shiny shimmering colors of the masses as the ginormous stands comes to life. The feeling of your heart in throat and the discrete wiping away of tears as the ceremonies proceede. Then the thrill of the start, the following of the competition and the camaraderie with those you remember from the same seats of past years and the new ones you meet this year. The excitement, and glory, the absolute uniqueness of this event, that cannot be matched or impersonated no matter how much impersonators try, it all ends with 🏁.
Oh May, why are you so fleeting? But seem forever to return.
106th,, I’m waiting....
Having attended 40 500's; I can safely say you nailed it!
taps makes me cry everytime. miss you dad wish you coulda been there with me
Same here bro. I was blubbering in the stands. My little brother Cpl William H Crouse IV USMC KIA Afghanistan 12/21/2010
i’ve been sitting here with goosebumps watching this. brings back so many memories. i grew in indianapolis during the 60’s and every year my family would always barbecue chicken and listen to the race on the radio. i think most people did. we went to some of the qualifications but never to the race. in ’72, when i was a senior in high school, i was in the marching band. we got to march in festival parade downtown indy. we also marched around the race track in the pre-race parade. in ‘78 i moved to atlanta to teach school. it was a culture shock to learn that people didn’t know anything about the 500. because of bad weather during the year we had to make up
any days we missed. memorial day was used to make up for a missing day. i said to the faculty, but what about the race. they looked at me like i had 3 heads and would respond with, what race? it’s interesting to see how many countries were represented who knows about the race but people living approximately 550 miles away asks, what race? oh well, i’ll always be a hoosier, who gets excited about the race, no matter how many years i live in georgia…and i still barbecue chicken on race day.
I got to see Helio win his first Indy 500 back in 2001 .. .awesome to see him get his 4th !!
Me too. What a thrill.
I have seen all 4, plus 2 of Rick Mears’ 4.
Hey Jay I was also at the Indy 500. Been there every year since 1968
and 2020
Ya . Indy airport is right . They fuckd you out of 2020 . All that bullshit they said about ' you were here in spirit , youre streak continues " is all bullshit . You started fresh in 2021 like eveyone else .
@@js4187 WRONG ANSWER!
@@michaelhogg324 Nope . Afraid not . No one was at the Indianapolis 500 in 2020. That means ..........if youd been going there since you were a kid in the 50's .....The pathetic Governor and that pos Mayor fuked your streak up .
2021 starts all over . There is no getting around that ..
By the way say hello to your son David .
Have you always had the same seats.
The sound of the cars when they zip by is crazy!
They sounded so much better before the turbo v6 era.
I'm not going to address the previous reply, except to say: a car going an entire football field in less than 1s is gonna make A Sound. That sound may or may not be "cool" to you ears. lol
There was really only 145,000 people not 300k that is all they could sell cause of Covid. This was one of the greatest races ever. My grandfather raced the 500 many years ago.
why do they usually black out the event in the local markets i read that this year they opted to not black out locally ?
@@brewcrew5854 lots of sports are blacked out in local markets if they do not sell out
@@wolfpacva thx 4 response i was wondering though usually theres a home team allegiance to those sports it would be unfair to say hey u guys all within 100ish miles of track r responsible to fill venue or else no tv. this race is a bucket list item for many around the world i may research if its been done at nascar at all thx again
@@brewcrew5854 All races use to be like that . Now it is mostly Indy
Great job of capturing what it is really like to be at the 500!!!
Thank you Terry happy you joined me vicariously
Agreed; I'm rather late on seeing this, but FULLY geared up for May (I don't live in or near Indy, but still, I am wanting to see what speeds happen this time around) and it's really nice to see a vid from pre- to post-race. Loved it!
💚🙏 That was Awesome... Thanks 🙏 I Was Living in West Yellowstone, Montana in 1998. I went to the NASCAR Race that Year.. Brickyard 400.. My Favorite Driver.. Jeff Gordon got the Pole.. But.. Dale Jarrett Dominated the Race & Won.. It was a Great Weekend. I Sat in the 2nd Row just before Turn 1. Dale Ernhardt won the Camaro Race Championship on Saturday. I watched it from inside the track in the temporary bleachers. They had erected the skeleton of the building of the New Pagoda.. 🙏❤️
Jay & Helio are rocking!! Indy 500 is awesome,. Been to the museum, there, not the race, sometime ! Missing👼 Jim nabors singing ""back home in Indiana""!! Tampa Jay u make our day!
I live very close to the track. The sound during race day is unlike anything I’ve ever heard! Thank you so much for this! You couldn’t have asked for a more perfect race day!
Me too. Off turn 3.
What's it like living in Indy
Watched this race yesterday on TV, It was for sure a great one.
Great Videos, Greetings from San Luis Potosí, México
Beautiful video and experience, thank you for sharing! Grew up in IL and my dad and I would come watch up until 2002 when he passed away. The opening with all the pomp and circumstance, it is Americana at it's finest! Hope to get back this year!
Happy Memorial Day Jay, glad you had a good time at the race, looks like lots of fun, Happy Birthday to your Mom. Have a safe trip back to Florida and thank you for all you do.
This is too cool. Thank you for this video. I've lived in Indiana all my life and never have been to the Indy 500. Also on race day may friends and I were just wrapping up our week long vacation in Tampa florida. We traveled all the way down to Naples. Stayed at Treasure Island then first few days. Then in Seiesta Key. I can say we truly enjoyed our time in Florida. Wow that Tampa airport is HUGE. But thank you for this channel. 😊
Hey bro you and I crossed paths in tunnel, I was on my way to ride around the track. INDY 500🏁 was my lifetime first. It to me is the MECCA. and of course I picked Helio Castroneves. VIP STYLE.
That’s so awesome we crossed paths such an awesome day that was
It was so amazing! Welcome to Indianapolis!
nice moment jay!! i would have loved to be there!
Thank you so much
I live in Indy glad you had a good time.
Thank you Monica
that looked like so much fun Jay...thank you
I love car racing and this is a great video. Thanks for bringing us along. Keep up with the great work 👍
Awesome video Jay great job on all the editing you did for this video.
I was a military member on the truck parade lap and in formation for the ceremony. So cool to see all the people back again after COVID.
HEY, TAMPA JAY WOW, That's so cool I have Always been a race fan
I really like a NASCAR but the Indianapolis 500 will do so awesome that you where able to go see that race in person you a lucky Guy and thank you for bringing me along with you OK JAY
Take care stay safe and God bless
awesome. it's been on my bucket list for years! even got tix one time, but had to give them away, so have yet to make it out there. thanks for posting since it's like being there without being there!
Thanks for the posting. It was great to see it from an on the ground perspective. Watching from down under in Australia - you certainly don't get the impression of just how huge the track and stands are from the TV.
I've never been there. Not a big race fan but watched your video anyway! Glad you spent time w/ your family & I hope your mom had a good b-day weekend. I'm sorry your father wasn't w/ you this time around. God Bless!! I'm glad you had fun.
I was there to, such an amazing day.
Hey buddy and I hope you have a great Memorial Day. Take care.
Good job, nice video Jay.! God Bless You !
OMG the Indy 500 at the brickyard? That is so amazing. This video is also amazing to even watch you there at the brickyard. That is so cool. Keep up the amazing work good sir. I have never been to an IndyCar race myself but that is cool in any case.
Thank you for the race! want to go one year! keep up the great videos!
Awesome. Great video Jay. 🙂👍
hey Jay-thanks for sharing your Indy 500 experience. I too grew up in IN and miss it on Race Day. New sub too!
Glad to hear you enjoyed thanks for joining me fellow Hoosier
When you stayed by the fence and the cars drove by my mouth fell open, never been to a race before and wow they go fast!!! That’s amazing!
awesome! I bet you loved the adrenaline rush from it. I've been to one race which was the Gator Nationals a few years back. That was pretty awesome too. Great video.
Dude, I was on that fence when you captured us. It’s my 23rd race and this is a top 3 moment in life! Thank you
I always try to watch the 500 every year, but this tear I had to work, but watching your video was like being there.
I'm so stoked! My tickets arrived today for this years race. Going to be amazing.
Wow!!!! Awesome video!! Would love to see that race in person one day!
Thanks. Got tickets for my very first 500 this year, can't wait!
The view from the upper deck of the NW Vista is great! Glad you were able to get so much of the experience into the video. Just need to work on getting all the different smells into the video now.
Nice video Jay lovely moments.take care
You made it feel like I was there! Thanks from Vancouver Canada.
I love that sound!!! Alway have to listen to it on the radio
Great video, dude. Helio is a legend.
THANK YOU JAY....AN AWESOME VIDEO OF A HISTORIC EVENT....GREAT BEHIND THE SCENES VIEWS.
Thank you Donna
I live in Florida but grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan. And use to go watch the races at the track in GR my dad had a friend who use to race it. And my dad use to have a uncle that I mett when I was a kid many times who use to work crew pit in Indianapolis speed way I remember us going to Indiana to visit him. Indiana is very beautiful place. Love this video. You do a amazing job on your videos none of them are ever boring.
Happy you love the experience.
Went to Indy from South Bend for the weekend for the Indy 500.
The cars sound like a herd of bees when they zip by. Lol Cool vlog Jay.
Hi Jay what another great video love it 🥰
This is so cool Tampa Jay. We have been to one Indy 500 in person, in 2009. Coincidentally, it's the last time (before yesterday) that Helio won!
I LOVED your experience !!!
Thanks for joining me
Great seats and a nice video! I was in the short Shute in between 3-4 so when you went and visited your family and spanned towards turn 4 I was there!! What a race! I go every year in honor of my father who had been to every race but two from 1951-2018. He has been in Memory Care since Dec. 2019.
Amigo. Soy de España. Sabes dónde puedo dormir barato la noche del 25 al 26? Está todo muy caro y no tengo suficiente dinero. Cincinnati es muy loco para Dormir y luego ir en coche hasta Indiana esa mañana del 26? Muchas gracias 😊
Thanks for taking me along!
Thanks for joining me Cindy
Was a great race. One of the fastest too...
It was an awesome time
Thanks for sharing this. And yes that is great history being made there. been to many 500s there. 2010 being the last. I was sitting right in front of that last lap crash and it traumatized me pretty good. I miss the old school Indy 500. don't care for the changes they made. love Roger though. Always been one of his fans. Rick mears for life
I was there, lower level Paddock, not too far from where you ended your video. Watching it on TV is about 1% as good as being there in person. Enjoyed the casual mention of visiting family members and then your up on the highest point in Turn 4. Those folks must have some seniority at the track!
Thanks buddy! That was such a fine day, you had some nice seats. My uncles are in the old-timers club
Taking a road trip from Maryland to see this year's Indy 500. Will be me and my family's first and I hope to make it a tradition.
At 1:33, camera left of Jay's neck, black hoodie, yellow trucker hat, checkered mask. That's me! HA! My Dad right behind me. Had a great time at the race. Glad you were able to make it back up.
...I now get partial royalties from this video, right?! 😂😂😂
I checked it out! What an awesome experience! When I was a kid (1970s), I remember we stapled the liners from beer bottles (I don't remember the brand for certain, but I think it was Miller) to cardboard "tickets" redeemable for real tickets to a NASCAR race. Just recalling this job has me smelling that stale beer. My dad took me and my brother to a race complements of a few cases of beer, but I don't remember where (probably Ontario, California). A particular Malcom In The Middle episode reminds me so much about that experience because I recall the colored plastic visors and ALL of us getting wicked sunburns. After a couple of laps, my brother and I went and played under the stands. It all seemed too repetitive to us to remain interested, but we were there for the whole race--I think. I also recall watching many instances of the Long Beach Grand Prix on television while the cars were zooming through streets just a few miles away from where we lived. I heard auto racing is the largest spectator sport in the world. I'm glad you got to have this experience. Say hello to Momma Jay!
Hey Tampa Jay. We moved to Tampa in 2017 and still live here. However, this year I took my family up to the Indy 500! It was so much fun. I too used to go to the time trails yearly as a kid until I was about 13 or 14 yet never went to a race. In 2016 the year before we moved my Dad took my to my first race ever, the 100th running. This was my daughters first race this year and it was so cool to pass that tradition on all the way from Florida. We will be going back again if we can afford the trip again.
Cool you was in my home town indy. First video I came cross to watch of the race.👍
Glad you got to attend. 👍💕😊
I watched the race yesterday fantastic race and finish.
I just got great memories from when I was a kid. My parents took me every year and we would sometimes go to the formula one races when they came.
Your awesome thankyou so much fabulous video. Oh I hope it didn't take you too long to get out. Thankyou again fabulous 👏👏👏👌👍💯🙏❤😊
That is freaking awesome!
Wish I had been there - racing! Indianapolis 500🔥🔥💥💥love it!!!😁 👍👍👍👍
Lol, you hit a lot of the high points of it all... and You. Were. There. for it all. Mad props.
Edit: You were there. You experienced that day, that race, from beginning to end. It's 500 miles. At or (well-) above 220 mph. It's a race; cutthroat as it comes, including "bump drafting down in C'lotte" lol. Glad you lived it: I've lived Charlotte, T'dega, Daytona, but going to the Grandaddy of them all is a thing to me.
05,06,07,08,09,10,14.........bring things back to normal....and i'll be back next year......God bless America.....Eric says hi from Amsterdam 🇳🇱🤝🇺🇸
That's awesome Happy belated to your Mom!
Thank you
@@TampaJay You're welcome😊
Next time you can stay at my home we leave about 20 minutes from the track
So awesome!!!!
I was there too. I Went this year since we’re moving to Fl in June.

That’s me! Thanks Gary
@@TampaJay ..been here (St. P) for 3 years now. Miss my racing buddies.
I always wanted to go see the Indianapolis 500. I’m from Arizona. Maybe I’ll see you there someday.
Can't wait to do this with you someday! Yay cars!!
Me too much ahead
noooice! so fast!! great motor speedway experience
My son and I were also part of the 300K crowd! Memorable experience!
Great job Jay I love Drag racing but indy 500 is always kick ass
Thank you
Yeah, this was my first time at the race. That was exciting, and it was nice to get ice and advice from people who'd been there many times before.
Never been to the Indy 500. Looked exciting and you had a nice day for it! Enjoy the video!!
Good job with this video.
I was just in Ft Wayne Saturday.
Muito Bom......very good...go Hélio !! Vai Hélio. !!
Sweet!!!!
Very good!🇧🇷👏👏👏👏
Awesome baby
you had family up on the deck lol great spot to catch the race idk why you didnt stay up there
Hélio Castroneves Forever
What a view!
You were seated not far from me! I was Stand H Section 2. I'm ready for next May!
That was my section! So close. That’s awesome
Was part of the military opening ceremonies that race. I’ve been to the race many times before but the first taking part in the ceremony
GG!!!
Hey , i was there, and looks like i was sitting right up behind you.
Great video. Never been, but want to go to the Indy 500. So how bad was it getting out of that place once you got in your car? Like how many hours before you made it to the highway and was actually moving? always wonder that with so many people. And also you said parking was sold out months ago? Does that mean if I ever went I might need to get parking well ahead of time? Or just expect to pay a lot on race day?
People put signs up and let you park In their yard for whatever they would like to charge
Penske did a great job modernizing the facilities at IMS !
I would love to go to the Indy 500. But all I think about how long I would be in traffic for. Lol. If we can only drive home like the race car drivers.
Oddly enough I didn’t sit at traffic at all I went before 8 AM lingered around a little bit after the race got in my car… And made it home to New Castle in an hours time. My average commute to work every day and Tampa is an hour, so there’s like nothing
@@TampaJay I go to the Daytona 500 you would probably believe this that most of the traffic I sit in is in Orlando after the race. Lol. I loved the video had to share it with my family. I happy you didn’t have to sit in the traffic it looked overwhelming. Lol
The guys at 4:43 have their tickets right next to us! Super nice guys
