IMPORTANT UPDATE ABOUT CONNECTING IT TO THE PC SOFTWARE - For the camera to be recognised, a procedure has to be followed carefully. First, ensure the camera is turned off. Load up the PC Setout software. Connected the camera to the PC using the supplied USB data lead. Press and hold the Shutter and Power keys together for a few seconds until a red light flashes...the camera will then appear in the software and you can change the settings. When you are happy with your settings - press the Setout button to update the camera.

excellent review - this vid was made 7 years ago - just wondering you would review more for similar key cam products for the latest in 2020
Bought this key fob camera to use for work and it paid off within ten minutes! Great image in a restaurants interior. I can honestly say that I have made money from watching your reviews. As always, thanks for reviewing....
I purchased this camera for the purpose of FPV and it did not come with a manual. I wasn't real concerned but decided to look it up on you tube and ran across your video, exactly what I was looking for. Great information, great job. Thanks!!!
Sorry if it was answered already (could not find it), but YES, setting the date/time is setup automatically, using the PC date/time, nothing else to do. Just got one, and it work fine with my Win 7 laptop. Thanks for a very nice video Techmoan!
wow for that size, i was expecting something crappy but working. 1080p? technology is advancing faster than i thought
WARF3RE Hello from 2019
I'll dig mine out again and try the new firmware with the Win7 software again. Yes the Mobius is from the Company who make the #16 camera and the #26 is from HTInter who made the #18 camera as well as the DR32 car cam.
You can view some of the same footage taken with the Mobius camera in that camera's review. czcams.com/video/7wmIyD1fM4M/video.htmlm45s
I installed both cameras side by side in the car window to give you the ability to compare the quality between the 808#26 and the Mobius camera.
A few idiots have suggested that the footage is the same - perhaps rather than typing junk they should have spent another couple of seconds looking at the different time stamps on the bottom left of the clips.
Is this spam? This looks like spam.
Thanks for the positive words.
My god ur reviews are thorough
damn fucking right.
They're excellent reviews. Top marks.
So, maybe Mat's secret mission was to promote this places as holiday hotspots and we didn't realise it. Very well done MI6 agent Techmoan.
It's rather impressive that that tiny camera get image in 1080p
I wanted both reviews to stand on their own rather than as a comparison. You can see many of the same clips in both reviews though and a number of the downloadable samples were shot at the same time - So I've given all the ammunition anyone would need to be able to compare both cameras and make their mind up as to which they prefer. It's like buying a car - there is no 'best' car - you should choose the one that's closest to meeting your needs. So if you want a camera that looks like a keyfob...
Just found my key fob camera. I used it for my radio control planes. I pressed the reset button with a miniature metal rod ( needle ) charged it up for the first time since 2010 and still works good in 2021.
wow... what a comprehensive review...
and for 20 mins... it wasn;t boring at all...
kudos to you
Both cameras were in the car window at the same time. All the UK footage was shot concurrently with the Mobius camera.
Great picture quality. Shame there is no viewfinder.
Re the LED, I drilled and installed the top of an old LED as a light tube as I've done with my other key cams. Greatly improves the vis of the flashing LED. It's easy to do this on the old key cam, but when I opened the case and tried to ease out the camera module I found it had been glued in and actually broke a piece of the module case. Glued a blob of epoxy in to fill hole! The case is a bugger to take apart and put back together compared to the old key cam. And I still get lots of crashes.
I'll see if I can get something together with the common footage I've already got.
A pretty comprehensive package for what is essentially a novelty item.
OK, no problem. I like the Mobius review and it was fresh in my mind when I saw this latest review. Threw me a bit and I wondered if you'd grabbed the wrong file. Quality looks very similar. Rob
Personally I prefer the Mobius cam - but if someone needs a waterproof case and 'spy' camera styling then this is the next best thing. It's really designed for PC users though - so I'm not really the target market.
Plus, as has been mentioned on RC Groups, the cam is likely to get exceedingly hot in the waterproof case, as the heat sink effect of the case will be lost. (Wish I could have joined you on your cruise, looked nice!)
Yes it was great - 38ºC is a bit more than I'm used to though.
I strapped two of these things on a rocket, they worked pretty good! How to Build Homemade Rockets With Cameras
How long does the battery last.
JD Rock i use the 808 on my toy drone. czcams.com/video/htkJEhlCwlA/video.html
around 30 minutes, +/- some minutes depending on the cam settings
You have to put the camera in setout mode to get Windows tool to recognize it.
First you will need to download the drivers. You only need to do this once. Plug in USB and make sure the camera is off. Press and hold both power and shutter buttons down until the red light starts to fast flicker, then let go of buttons
I bought the Mobius because of Techmoan's review, and I couldn't be happier. It has everything I could want for only $70. The only flaw I've encountered is the 2 metal heat sinks get very hot, especially on a dash in the sun. Anyway , that's my 2¢
I love your mini cam reviews you are very thorough . It'd be great if you did reviews on all the incognito cams.
I think for something like that you'll need a really wide angle lens - so perhaps the SJ1000, but it's a bit flimsy.
Ive just purchased a mobius,,thanks to your hard work and effort, yet another brill review!!
I thank you,for introducing me to the minicam world!! (where will it end haha)
Cheers Matt, hope your health issues are sorted!!
This was shot with my old Sony HX100V....but it's more to do with using a tripod and good lighting rather than the camera.
Yes they were both recorded on the same journey.
I am gonna keep an eye out on this. I may use this as me rear dash cam. I use a DR32 for my front dash cam and it works great.
I don't like m-jpeg cams, so unless the specs in the advert are wrong then it's not one for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Great to see you've been to Malta!! Hope you liked my country :)
Love your comprehensive reviews. You got me about 300 quid poorer lol
That's some pretty impressive video quality for that class of cameras!
I remember my first Key Chain Cam. 360p or so. And now its 1080. WOW
They have gone up in quality so much, like having a metal shell now and providing cool waterpriif cases etc. Next (if they can fit it) they should add bluetooth so we can connect it to a phone and use the phone as a viewfinder, then people will be comfortable when using it as a helmet cam, handlebar cam etc...
Nice camera . Glad to see them getting away from the fisheye lens. Overall it's hard to beat the Mobius as its easier to hold, keep steady, aim and has many mounting adapters.
Bob...did you ever get the Setup Software connecting with your #26...I'm assuming you put it into 'setout mode' a detailed by theWolfTamer71 (below). I'm pretty sure I did it this way, but it was over a month ago, so my memory of this is vague. Also, I'm guessing that when it gets cold outside the waterproof case will mist up due to the heat generated by this cam.
Thanks - I haven't been able to so far - but there's still time.
BTW, a little off topic, but I have an older keychain cam that's only 720p I use in remote control airplanes. After a series of small thefts in the office, I put it on my keychain and left it running on my desk pointed at a co-workers purse. It caught another co-worker stealing money from her purse and the video was used to get the thief fired.
I bought one of these 808 cams based on this review from Amazon I wanted it for a personal cam and for a dash cam.
When i first put it together I tested it and it worked.
I put it in my shirt pocket and walked into the kitchen then had to pick something up and it slipped out of my pocket from a height of about 2.5 feet on to a vinyl floor and it broke.
They may actually work but they break very very easy.. there is no way you could keep it on your key chain and expect it to live.
I returned it and got my money back thanks to Amazon's return policy but it was a waste of time and money because I ended up with a flash card too small to be used in my phone or anything else.
Can you specify what you mean by "it broke"? Did the case just come apart? Did it shatter into a million pieces? What happened?
The electronics inside the camera are very fragile .. there was no visible damage it just stopped operating completely... I then took a look at the internal parts and could see nothing loose or bad soldering .. its just died
Zippy TheChicken
Well if there was no loose soldering and the thing didn't crack into a million pieces, and the lens wasn't broken, then it could've only been the battery that might've been ruined on impact. I mean people (myself included) take this camera, attach it to a quadrocopter, and then send it crashing to the ground from about 100ft... I'm guessing you could replace the battery (if you got a #26 or HQ30) and it would be okay.
nope it wasn't the battery it was most likely the components that are attached to the board failing due to shock. the good/bad ratio i hear is well over 50% for these small cameras. If you get a good one it may last for a while .. if you get a bad one it either shows up dead or dies in days.. and more people are getting bad ones.. I guess you could buy a dozen and find a couple good ones of they were a necessity for a project.
This is probably a bit too late to say but anyway... This long verion of the TECHMOAN-intro is so bloody cool. The only think that would make it cooler in my opinion is if you edited out your hand, so it looks like the r2r just starts spinning all by it self! And of course, thanks for all your interesting videos!
+Magnus Wilén I plan on re-doing the intro in 4K, so I'll keep this in mind, thanks.
Techmoan could you possibly do a review on the 809 car key micro camera. I'm not too tech savvy and I would like to see how my camera functions with wifi.. Bluetooth...Ty.
Yes, that's the decision you are faced with.
This is one of the few action cameras that doesn't distort images to kingdom-come with gobs of barrel distortion. Pretty good pictures I'd say..
which of the hidden cameras that you have reviewed have the longest time frame of recording?
I'll try this again when I get the chance.
Hello Matt,
Thanks for the review!
You are getting quite efficient at getting through the relevant bits these days ;)
What I was hoping to see in your review was the 'angle of view' comparison to the Mobius . . .?
Since the Mobius is the chief competitor here, I'm sure many of us will want to know how it compares in video and audio quality . . . (for example in low light) ?
Can you give us your impressions?
(after all, you are 'the' expert, and we have come to trust your opinion ;)
Cheers!
Nice review, these small videocams have surely got a long way. One thing I 'd like to know if these have decent Battery charge/protection circuits? Those old versions were quite notorious on ruining lithium batteries.
This camera looks better than some high-end smartphones! Impressive.
Many thanks, Excellent review, as usual.Returned a faulty Crocolis from anntech/amazon, which they decided to refund rather than replace. Will now buy this Mobius instead
Pure entertainment for about 20 minutes, 20 seconds of being happy when I let it buffer and then the review itself.
Quick question to you Matt, do you prefer this over the Mobius Camera? I myself got the impression it did what it was supposed to do but had more downsides in general, except for the "waterproof" case which would be a great addition to the Mobius.
Once again, great review, keep this up!
I've used a low cost gopro clone with a waterproof case to video pondlife.. No damage to camera at all, I'd use it on hols in a swimmingpool or similar.
looks like a good camera. good contender to the contour i have, shame the plastic waterproof case for this one is silly big though
I just bought a 809 car key micro camera. I would like to see a video for this camera.... it is very much needed.
My preference means very little - I'll let you choose the one you like best for your needs...I just present the evidence.
Love your reviews. The little camera sounds like fun to have and shoot with. Sometimes you just have to have fun! :)
My interest in this #26 ended when Techmoan said he had needed to reset it a few times, If it can be sorted with firmware, then wait until it has. I have never needed to reset my Mobius after many hours of use.
No Matt haven't managed to connect the GUI. Don't have windows 7 and as I had so many crashes when I 1st got the cams through trying various button pressing sequences I'm reluctant to experiment. I see a 'new' firmware on RC Groups but I'm still using original firmware. Don't think it's an important update? I've asked the developers to bring out an XP GUI and told them not many people have 7, but nothing appears to have happened. The Mobius developer told me the 26 is from a competitor of his.
SJ1000 come with underwater case, I did test it onl10/20cm under water and it did not lick any single drop. No idea how many meter deep can go, my bet 1 or 2 meter deep should be no problem
Mobius has no underwater case as we speak, but it is planed to arrive one day
SJ1000 I think is a very good generic action cam, nice to have LCD and HDMI out. Quality wise, SJ1000 and Mobius are same, but colors are more natural on SJ1000 (in my channel you can find aerial video made with both camera)
anoter good review, i bought a contour hd after watching your reveiws for my motorbike trip to scotland ,sadly the usb charging lead was faulty and i was unable to charge it upafter the first day, was gutted, keep up the good work
Hi Matt! I just noticed that you're testing the #26 and Mobius at the same time, based from what I've seen in your sample clips.
Very good review as always. In the market again for another camera soon probably, and your reviews are very helpful.
I would say the Mobius is better overall. The thing that the Mobius is missing right now is the underwater casing (Which I heard is in the works...) There are good things about the #26, but the Mobius has more good.
I was impressed by the video when the camera was being held still. Moving it about caused massive wobble which kind of kills it. I'd rather they come up with cheap glasses with an embedded camera. That's decidedly easier to carry around, lol.
SJ1000 has been the first that Techmoan review, and he got excited about it. Then he did test Mobius and #26 ... I'm sure #26 is not as good as SJ1000 nor Mobius, but I would like to hear which of the two Techmoan prefer. Actually I own both Mobius and SJ1000 (Techmoan infected me about SJ1000 beauty) .. it is hard to say which is better, the two are both very good, but different , in size, lcd, hdmi, aov, video out, etc
Great review, as always. Seems like you talk faster but your videos are still getting longer! Good thing they're a small joy to watch. The intro/outro is a classy affair, too. Top notch.
Thanks Joe,
I checked out your video comparison, very helpful.
. .
Since there has been some requests for a wider view for the mobius I wonder if the #26 has plans to include a ~120 degree lens option . . .
I have both cameras. Both are useful. The Mobius is better than the 26 in low light. The 26 looks great during the day or with lots of lighting. In some ways better than the Mobius. The 26 has more realistic colors and field of view but the Mobius has more detail in its vids.
After seeing this, I'm glad I went with the Mobius. Thanks for the review!
Oh my god, you came to Malta? :D Hope you enjoyed it mate, I really found it surprising watching this because only a week earlier I was right there in Valletta taking stills :)
Good explination/review as always.
I was just wondering if you knew that behind the date/time stamp was ther mentioning? Hetai 26?
I hope your vaction was nice. At least it loooked good :-)
your so cool man i will never unsubscribe
This spy camera was updater big time in the past from 808 1 to 808 26 anything under 16 is garbage but i hear the 808 26 is the top quality one to get that will last.
This looks like it might actually be a pretty decent cam for my purposes. Also, I might be able to use it in a number of applications that I didn't originally foresee. The night footage is surprisingly-sharp and crisp and with the available tripod mounting cradle, I could possibly use it as an action cam.
Manchester looks like a really neat place! I love the historic architecture! I've always wanted to live in a Medieval city. That modern architecture has to go. That crap is almost all we have here in 'Murica and it is hard to look at all day, every day. We have some beautiful historic neighbourhoods and Gothic churches, but evil developers tear them down to build car parks and ugly, square shopping centres. I hate this place. OK. Enough ranting.
The 808 #26 looks like a pretty useful camera. That's all I was trying to say.
No you're not the only one!
I can hear it too, maybe its Mat's new SONY camera!
to keep the low profile nature of the device they should use a force feedback for notifications instead of the light, just a little motor with a weight.
It's as if they listened to everything you had to say and then created the Mobius... Actually, that's exactly what they did, isn't it? :) Thank you for all your videos! You explain everything very well, and because of your Mobius video I now have a great Dash Cam in the Mobius. Best wishes from New England.
Thanks for that...I guess you're stuck inside due to the weather today.
Techmoan Yes it has been a bit nippy here :) Below zero Fahrenheit last night, but warmer today.
Hi Techmoan, I'am a big fan of your Video Reviews, thank you so much for this. Could you answer me one question please, what would you more prefer? The Mobius cam or the 808 #26 cam if you compare the picture and sound quality directly? Thanks in advance. Regards from Frankfurt Germany
Just noticed it on a closer look..the connector is not micro USB .It's UCE6 connector
Hi Matt, I've been wondering how you got on with the 26#. A few points. Good review. I tested the waterproof case (video to follow) admittedly only a couple of feet, but it was waterproof. My buttons seemed to work OK though the small window fogged quickly when you removed it from the water and it difficult to clean. As far as shaky holding goes, I've got and tested a few of these and I hold the cam with two hands, you get used to holding it level too. I agree the Mobius has the edge though.
I ordered this camera a second time after the first one was to my liking. Apparently the setout tool does not work with Windows 10, only Windows 7, eletech086 also stated that the product is supported by Windows 7 and not Windows 10. The setout tool will simply not read the new camera so I can't remove the timestamp, record extended clips (longer than 5 minutes), or turn off the LED, I have tried everything. I wish I had known this, I would have ordered a different one.
Hi there, fantastic and clear, thank you. I have just bought one but I can't find how to locate a program for it on my MAC. I can't change the time/date etc. If you or anyone have a link I can download it would be much appreciated.
usparktalk 1 second ago
Maybe it's my speakers, but when you are talking I hear a deep rubble sound in the background. But when you play the audio from the 808 cam there is no noise. It sounds like the noise is coming from your mic.
Thank you for the review. Great information as always.
I am puzzled about the concerns regarding the shape, and do not remember the shapes of the other fob cameras being a concern. Were the others flatter at the bottom?
For the waterproofing, perhaps you could put a piece of toilet tissue in the case and submerge it like that?
I have just bought this camera but it does not come with a dashboard
mount. I think the review showed some accessories available for
purchase.
Where can I get a suitable mount to go in a vertical windscreen truck?
Hi, so how is the camara you think? Very good?
Jorge Linares the camera is great but it doesn't have the features I require so it's going back to amazon. Can't get it to work with WIN 10 either.
oh I see I appreciate your time to reply me,
thanks.
+Jorge Linares . I have one of these cameras, it is not bad, but I also have a mobius which has better quality video in my opinion. I recommend if you are still looking for a camera get a mobius or mobius 2 if it is suitable for your application.
i think that those foamy sticky things are for when you want to attach it to a rc vehicle to get rid of the vibrations
Great review as always and think this will be my next key cam for my rc flying.
Great reviews. Worth watching... thanks for taking the time to make these :)
Thanks for uploading. Very informative. I'm a bird watcher and I need something that I can use to film a birds nest 24 7 rain or shine I was thinking motion activated would be good but sometimes that takes 2 or more clips for something that could be done in one clip so I'm not to fussed. At the moment I'm focusing on one nest that's in a hollow in a tree. The hole that the birds get into is about 5cm in diameter and will stay pretty dry but I'd like something I can water proof just in case there's a storm or something. It also needs to be changed at the most once a day. Got any recommendations? Thanks.
Wowww i was so please that some of the footage was taken at Malta
I tried to comment on your last video review of 808 camera's, but couldn't as comments are disabled.....I'm guessing this is because you're getting tired of being told you sound like James May? :p Anyway, good reviews, really helpful. I kicked my cat in its face because I was so frustrated with not being able to understand what all the numbers mean. You're video really helped though. Nice one.
***** I disabled comments on some of the old videos because I don't remember anything about the products but people kept asking me very complicated and specific questions about them.
Is the boat the Caribbean Princess? I went on there a few years back.
GREAT Review... will buy and put on my buggy... attach to hood of buggy..what do you think?
bloody nora, we live round the corner from each other, work in manchester, and it looks like we were in venice on the same bloody day!
Wonderful review, very thorough! Thank you very much! Terrific!
I thought this was an excellent review and demonstration! Since this was reviewed awhile ago, may I ask your recommendation on a pinhole camera which I could DIY mount into my motion detecting porch light and POE for power and data to my NVR? Thank you!
Safe touch temperature limit for metal surfaces is 49 deg C. This is a requirement for the Space Station :)
808 #26 US$98, Mobius US$68. The #26 makes the same rounded case bottom mistake as the original #16. After looking at the videos taken, I suspect that they must have designed this thing in a mini action cam news vacuum. Who'd ever buy it over the Mobius?
Hi techmoan, Thanks for sharing this video and your review.
Just wondering if you could tell me in your opinion which "do you think" is the best keyring model from the 808 series?
Hello,
Great review on this cam.
I was wondering do you think it would be possible to modify the cam in some way so that it shoots in landscape when holding the fob on its side, with lens still pointing out in same direction. Or do you think that would likely risk breaking the camera.
