Worth it for the effort? Absolutely not. Worth it for the satisfying time-lapse? Absolutely.
Endercrepper Netherman why wouldnt you just put the coble generator under the tnt dropper LMAO
USRx Gecko that has definitely been done
Honestly, it could be a cool design for a working excavator design build. Which would be nice for cosmetic purposes. The only practicality in this is that you can stack this machine as a quarry since you can literally make a 1600x12 version of this build without having any hiccups.
Not sure if its more practical than the current scicraft quarry, but I think its worth looking into.
@@Predated2 Is so incredibly NOT worth it to make a quarry with this system. Way too much building effort compared to the version they have at the moment.
Or make an tunnel bore like of this machine
Now add a stone generator and fill the hole back in afterwards.
Oh Jesus, genius
Fill it with obsidian
Please everyone like this, it would be a great all in one expansion
The ultimate useless machine
That would be SO COOL
This was fantastic, and you are absolutely right it's completely overkill haha but thought it would be a fun idea nonetheless. The block collection looked just as cool as I'd planned, 10/10 from me
Thank you for suggesting this
@@DiggoryJiggory no problem, my thought process was "what if we can make the buildcraft quarry without actually installing the mod?", and frankly I was not disappointed by the result in the slightest lol
@@rezonantsarachnids5351 You're not the only one who thinks about copying elements from mods into vanilla Minecraft. Just recently, I started experimenting with building item conduits out of water and trapdoors. They're not as smart as Ender IO, but they look cool.
And the machine could be useful on taller worlds, like The Deep Dark from Extra Utilities mod (forge).
Imagine the same machine, smaller, but being able to move it with a flying machine.
Pretty sure after he says it's easy he stops recording and laughs maniacally at everyone watching
pretty sure he does
Now I can only imagine a maniacal-ilmango-laugh and that truly brightened my day, thank you for that image sir
felt that 😂
He is German he wouldn't do that.. After all, Germans worship efficiency, that was also why he complained about it being a large scale solution for a small scale problem, total overkill. It would've been much better to let's say make a quarry that digs out everything between y=5 and y=128 for 8000 blocks wide which then allows you to break the bedrock below and if you let the machine run and remove 8000*8000 perimeter, you can then remove all the bedrock and then you can make your own Skyblock Survival Challenge in Survival. And not have to worry about ever seeing that which was once the pretty landscape of the overworld if you don't tryhard.
I can't imagine ilmango loosing his cool
Follow-up challenge: move the machine 12 blocks sideways after it finishes.
yeah, so it will work automatticaly, and wil just send the strips of blocks still to the same location
The problem is wouldn't the redstone dust fall out?
@@nycuba7478 you would place stations
Jayden Iglesias you would change it to pistons
Don't Redstone ore blocks work like Redstone dust? People should use those more they're movable blocks.
I feel like this machine would make for a perfect "as seen on TV" infomercial product. It is a large and complicated solution to a small and simple problem.
most of those products are designed for disabled people, but since they aren't considered a good target demographic by a lot of execs, you get those ads.

Did not expect a Colin Furze reference here
Imagine building a giant cobble generator under this thing
It's like those useless machines that destroy levers and stuff but on a whole new level.
@@aspennnnnnnn how? They mean it would drop down, gran cobble, fly up and get it blown up. It would be a cobble farm
@@dylster2662 An inefficient one.
@@dylster2662 Useless because the original intent of the machine was to dig a hole.
Aspenne “how to make something that does something to stop a machine that was built to do a different something but both machines still technically function”
3:58 did he just flip a piston with a cactus?
I believe so.
:0
Flipn cactus. Carpetmod feature
Yes, I don’t understand but if it was special cacti
I'm pretty sure it's part of a mod he uses, makes it easier to place the piston correctly
This needs an upgrade.
After the second flying machine pushes the slice over, third flying machine needs to push it up to build height. And again, and again.
To make an exploration cut like they do with those huge drills in Antarctica :D

Ilmango: *N O*
SciCraft dude: it's actually harder to do this on a small scale
everyone else: u wot m8
1 wide expandable mining machine
Hek
Nice mango, made one myself (similar) and had so much fun designing it. Especially in the part where it can all move forward a block to mine even more. Great challange this is, think more people should try it.
This is technically just a clock that's gradually slowing down
And that breaks itself really easily.
The literal opposite of technically
Clash Playa misuse of terms amirite
What?
That's what happens with a mining machine that returns and doesn't have a limit
Dude how the heck can you make these insane machines like they're nothing
Pretty sure he has a tutorial on slime machines which is really helpful. My personal suggestion is just start with the ultra basic 2 way design, which goes like:
1. Place a row of slime blocks that is 3 blocks long and 2 blocks wide.
2. Break the middle 2 blocks, and replace them with 2 sticky pistons side by side; 1 facing into the slime blocks at the front, and one into the slime at the back.
3. Put a block of obsidian at each end of the slime blocks to stop it escaping, and then place 2 observers with the backs aiming into the slime blocks behind the sticky pistons.
4. That's it! You can break the obsidian and make a a gap for it to fly back and forth between, and activitate it by clicking the observers with flint and steel.
Once you have made this small design, just experiment heaps with adding onto it, the push limits and making extensions etc, and eventually you start to get the hang of it
Its amazing! Im sure it can only come with time but id think that he just knows exactly how stuff will interact and just fitting together already designed modules of other machines hes made and being able to flex the designs a bit.
You can create entire emulators within this game with just redstone, blocks, redstone torches and pistons so like the possibilities are very much so endless
@@ansel8935 yea once you get the hang of it, literally every single slime contraption follows a handful of simple rules; power>push>power>pull>reset
Once you know how to master that cycle, you can be making absolutely massive machines in the space of a few weeks
Yeskushnercan That’s actually a really cool fun fact. Not surprised tho, he’s a genius!
Favorite part was how in the time lapse the TNT explosions got slowly further and further apart from each other because the block grabber had to travel a further distance each time
I can’t wait for you to come with a version that can moves 14 blocks to the left next week and just continuously drills pits further and further west
thanks for the vid! i can see a lot of value in doing these kind of challenges, even if they're "not worth it," its helpful for understanding methodologies. also, the scale is MUCH easier to grasp for the aspiring redstone engineer than some of the larger projects
any chance the "Proper mining machine for large areas" will get updated to work in 1.14+?
Yes! That would be amazing!
I’m pretty sure it works in 1.14+
@@patrickgilles4870 The tnt duping system doesn't work, everything else does tho
@@martinzhang6936 the 1.13 machine still works perfectly
Hey! I'm actually doing something with perimeter diggers in 1.14. Use Ilmango's "best way to dig a perimeter" video for sweepers and return machines, and just replace the tnt dupers with the coral fan version that works in this update. Still works perfectly fine with this change!
i love these challange videos, its fun to see your thought process
I think people who says that honey blocks is useless feeling dumb now
It was useless until minecraft changed them so i doubt they feel dumb lol
i yeet my meat yr name tho
i yeet my meat how did they change them?
@@AmericanFry they used to stick to slime blocks in the first snapshots
@@purpledefaultpfp6233 they were always useful because of they slow the players, good for parkour challenges
he's pulling an SMPLive and making a chunk error
I’ve made a land “sweeper” that’s faster than the scicraft quarry machine.
It pushes the top layer of rock over a ditch at the end of the quarry and it explodes it. The sand/gravel and items fall to the bottom of the world over some waterlogged slabs with hoppers beneath to collect everything.
The land sweeper always pushes at most 12 blocks of whatever, dragging them over the blocks below them.
When the first layer is removed the land sweeper goes one block deeper.
It also automatically clears water and lava (but not both, because obsidian...).
I used it in the nether - there you don’t have dungeons or obsidian to worry about, just fortresses and it automatically clears lava.
Can you please make a video or provide a world download? This sounds really worth checking out
ᏰĪᏝᏝ ՇÎρɧᏋƦ proof or your lying
Really interesting video! Soo interesting to see the ingeniering
2:37 I met exactly the same problem when building a floor builder about a month before honey blocks where introduced. I was so happy when we found out thhey were essentialy transparent slime.
this is freaking bad ass dude... imagine how big of areas could be excavated with something like this on a larger scale
Just was I was thinking “a time lapse would be so cool..” 👌
As always, I am amazed.
Do you plan to update the super quarry for the new mechanics?
Or would it be easier to make an entirely new super quarry?
During the Scicraft tour they did with Mumbo they were already saying that they had better designs in store, so probably build a new one... but then again those are like thousands hours projects, i dunno if they'll ever be able to do it again :o
@@lanatsif Knowing SciCraft, they will do it, however it may a while yeah :'(
@@lanatsif They've iterated on their ideas over and over. They'll do it again you believe me.

It’s overkill he says. It’s like getting an excavator for your back garden he says. Well, I detect you to the Colin furze channel
Just imagine this with the mod that makes you able to dig down infinitely
You’re thinking of the Cubic Chunks mod. I bet this could actually be a useful machine for idly making a superdeep quarry in a cubic chunks world too, except cubic chunks doesn’t work with 1.15 yet (latest mod-supported MC version is 1.12.2) so this machine couldn’t be built due to reliance on honey blocks
Smart idea!
This is really cool. I could see how this would be an awesome way to make a bunker.
Love the videos where you explain how to solve the problem.
A scicraft member saying that is better to mine than making a stickystone. No way! Are you sick mango? Jajaja great video
Hab deinen Kanal mal abonniert, echt geniale Anleitungen und ich finde dein Englisch hervorragend, Akzent hin oder her.
That was unbelievable. Now YOU give _us_ a challenge!
Totally worth it for the perfect hole you made and the best time lapse i ever seen
This is awesome. Mass overkill but very cool
Thank you so much for showing how you’d build this kind of thing! Now that honey is in the game, do you think you could show how to build updated contraptions like large elevators and such? I’m having some trouble designing them and getting them to work well. Thank you for your time!
Wow that is pretty freaking awesome just wow great job on the build you totally blew my mind I don't know what else I could say but great job.
this was a really interesting video, that time lapse was very satisfying to watch even though its not worth it considering beacons

illmango, #1 award for secret underground base construction
Still, I'm impressed. Great work!
I'd like to see that time lapse in reverse so that way it sounds like its getting faster and faster :D. Neat concept, but impractical indeed.
What's great about this machine is that unlike a tunnel bore, It doesn't have to wait for you permission to break anything valuable and unlike a cave maker tunnel bore it doesn't just break anything and despawns it, this can excavate blocks and bring them to an area where they can be blow up with tnt and sorted out in your storage system
Wow, great job!
Never have I ever wanted something so badly on my single player......I'm laughing and crying with joy at the same time.
The absolute venom he has towards the idea of actually using this
That time lapse is very cool and satisfying
yeah that timelapse was definitely enjoyable. 👊😎
I have an idea that might give this machine a reason for existing. Its a bit long winded for a CZcams comment, so if you don't mind that I @ you later on discord I'll share what I was thinking.
Nicely done, man.
i cant wait to see this tileable and compacted, i so wanna try thus on survival
How crazy it would be if Mumbo used this for his industrial farm area🤔🤔.....
Cool idea but it would have to be multi use or do you mean for the perimeter

The cool thing about this contraption is you can move giant slabs of land from one place to another without breaking it, if you don't add the TNT attachment of course.

Can you stream it just mining out a 12x12 area while you're afk? I'd legit donate a superchat for a stream that satisfying
Have you considered making a new, more compact and faster quarry using honey blocks? Quarries are always super satisfying to watch
That’s so cool though. Good job
Ilmango. Would be cool with a 16 x 16 version for a "chunk remover"
as a fan of the create mod, you are terrifying

Okay listen. I was never one for the satisfying videos, but the timelapse was SO SATISFYING
It would be very cool to have a flying machine that travels X number of blocks and then drops a piece of tnt. You could keep track of how far you've flown using chained, moveable piston feedtapes. I have not yet seen anything like that and you seem like the man for the job!
Mumbo did that. He built a flying piston feed tape that could bomb after a few blocks
It's a mining machine that transforms into an advertisement for a better mining machine. Genius!
well done really cool concept :)
When Ilmango says he never used honey blocks;
*Oh boy, it's all coming together.*
I would say that it's really fun to watch a bore drill like this do it's thing. Maybe if you could figure out a way to relocate the setup without tearing it down, so that you could reuse it.
Always the germans with their efficiency 😂 enjoy the concept for what it is; noice.
Haha yeah, german engineering at its finest!

„It‘s not really worth it“ But it‘s so satisfying! Maybe I‘ll build it just to watch.
smaller scale ones are overkill, but its actually more efficient for wayy larger scales, and if you need a continuous source of blocks
I'd love to get a download for this to further test this challenge, although I could reconstruct it from your video
I was thinking about something like this a while back early 1.15 snapshots. wonder how this machine could scale?

"12x12 digging to bed rock will take you about 30mins"
Me:WHAT!?!?
With a mining machine. With a pick it would take around an hour and a half to two
If you have a haste II beacon then it should be a 30 minute ordeal no issue.
Why? Are you using your fist?
Love your intro xD You are the bes!
One of the first things a technical minecrafter must do when starting out is build a slime farm. This involves clearing at least a whole 16x16 slime chunk to bedrock. What is the fastest way for a technical minecrafter to do this whilst slime is a limited resource?
That time lapse was so satisfying
Love your intro😄
I was getting serious attack of the clones droid factory vibes from this.
Haha, I had the same idea to make a quarry machine with the new honey and slime blocks. But I'd always get stuck at caves and also I had trouble making a tnt block eraser
I always come for the opening 😂😂
It's always good to push yourself and build the things deemed not worth it by everyone else, and becoming all the better for it
Wow -- that is awesome!
The sound on that time lapse reminded me of what it sounds like when I do push ups.
Why does this video seem so similar to Mumbo's redstone challenges? :D
Because honey blocks
even with fails and stuff lol, just add so much flavor
10:30 That's gotta be one of the most satisfying things I've ever seen.
mean while: 1 stack of tnt,a dispenser,a switch or redstone clock.
Im a simple man. I see ilmango. I Like.
It was just a suggestion, not a challenge, but wow, you really nailed it
ilmango: This is totally not worth doing...
also ilmango: 8:34
Should make the next quarry more interesting...
You should revisit this and see how efficient you can make it. Maybe even make the hole machine movable.
The only thing that I would see as remotely useful would be for excavating slime chunks, but even that would be overkill. Just cleaning up after a TNT duper would be easier than constantly moving this monstrosity. But if you could have a static design that required moving platforms back and forth for some reason or the other, it might have some applications.
The timelaps was awesome
Despite being pretty much useless this machine is ridiculously cool!
Exactly why I requested it lol
Ah i thought this would be horizontal! That would be super cool, but much harder
This is so satisfying still now .
It doesn't really matter if this is useful or efficient. It's extremely cool.
loved the machine,
