What started off as a rather small project gradually increased in size after each new sample discovery. Very happy to share this with you all after one year in the making.
I'm dumbfounded. This treads on a fine line between prodigy and insanity, as all geniuses do. This makes me appreciate even more the ways Todd has for creating his signature sound. Christmas came early this year, a big thank you to all the sample hunters making this possible
Much appreciated! 😃Part 2 is in the works now and will hopefully be out just in time for Christmas, however all of the inclusions are currently up on whosampled if you're curious.
You must have an Echoic memory, the level of detail that you hear is insane (mostly at a different pitch aswell) , I thought I was a Todd fan but clearly I'm slacking bro
Apologies for the reuploads folks! Not used to editing a video this big and a few bugs managed to make their way through despite me checking multiple times before rendering. Knowing the fix was as simple as a few clicks would have bothered me to no end. Enjoy anyways 😅
Most of us over at the sample hunting discord do just that 😄This video shows mostly my findings, except a few at the end which I credited. There have been some more great finds by the community as well which should be up on whosampled soon.
yooooo!!! i love this, i especially like the sections you gave to constructing certain tracks that have most of their samples known, it gives a perspective in both how the song works and what's left unknown at the moment is there anything known about Steal Your Heart? that one is my fav
tyanks for the reupload my bro! hope to see them in whosampled! Edit: Could you make timestamps for the todd songs in this video please? thanks! Edit 2. Just wanted to make this edit to say, you're a genius! and, congrats for 7000 submissions on whosampled. I see you've added some more todd samples (besides the ones in this video) thanks for that! Hope part 2 will be posted soon😁
Most of these were found by listening to random music and having something jump out at me that sounded familiar, or being familiar with a certain artists voice or similar textures in their music. Sometimes they even come to me in a dream like the Lazy Susan sample in When Angels Sing. In more recent times however I've also started using tools like Shazam and Google Assistant to discover new ones. Google in particular is scarily good at picking up on tiny samples.
I have a theory about the still missing sample from face to face. Maybe daft punk and Todd discussed what kind of songs he was into at that time I’d guess 1998-2000. So probably the songs Todd released in that period can contain that song daft punk used for their sample. I have a feeling it could be Dan Fogelberg. BTW I am talking about the sample that goes along with ‚be free‘ from the b-section. Peace ✌🏻
I had the same thought actually. I've been searching a lot of Todd's tracks from around the time of Face to Face's release and found some interesting new samples since this video. If they aren't up on whosampled yet then they will all be in part 2. Most notably there are more Dan Fogelberg samples in the Crazy Love remix, I'm Hopeful and Shut The Door (True Belief Dub Remix). I think it's looking less likely that Dan Fogelberg has the shaker sample at this point since I think a few of us have searched all his albums before 1981 all the way through.
Not too sure. There are a few similar parts in the same song but nothing matches. Can't remember at this point if I listened to the rest of the album, but maybe it's something from another song on there? There are still some undiscovered samples in here too so there's also a chance it may be from one of those albums.
9:32 The song This Masquerade appears precisely in this video. I made the comparison and... 12:20 No, the missing sample doesn't come from there, because in Savior Tonight you hear a flute, and in This Masquerade you hear a flute and percussion. So...no, the sample doesn't originate from there.
I've put it on hold for the moment. Got a lot going on in life currently. I did plan to have it out much earlier otherwise. I'll try and get back to working on it soon.
I can relate to that! I think a skill like that can take a long time to hone, and every time I try it does give me an even bigger appreciation of his craft. Keep trying and you might be able to get to a level you're happy with soon enough!
It just kinda jumps out at me. It's quite hard to explain. I think it comes from listening to Todd's music so many times and listening to a lot of the music he likes. You start to recognise certain textures in an artist's music or similar voices. It's like building a database in your head. In more recent times as well things like Shazam and Google Assistant have been useful at identifying samples as well. Google in particular can get samples that are less than half a second even.
I think there might be a third sample from Claudine Longet - Meditation in What's His Name. I posted a video about this: czcams.com/video/MJ3Sa4f5kx4/video.html
I submitted them to whosampled before uploading this video 😀 Only the two Carpenters samples at the end were found by other people on whosampled and their names are mentioned for those. Otherwise I usually prefer to only feature my own discoveries.
I'm dumbfounded. This treads on a fine line between prodigy and insanity, as all geniuses do. This makes me appreciate even more the ways Todd has for creating his signature sound. Christmas came early this year, a big thank you to all the sample hunters making this possible
Update, the Saviour tonight part is out of this world, a perfect ending to the video
Much appreciated! 😃Part 2 is in the works now and will hopefully be out just in time for Christmas, however all of the inclusions are currently up on whosampled if you're curious.
@@StopNightcoreV2 Glad you liked it😀
agree bro
todd's sampling is so amazing it awakens a secret advanced level of being impressed that i didn't know existed in my brain
This is an evidence of Todd's genius
god i fucking love this channel
Glad to hear that, thanks! 😄
Hearing those "Saviour Tonight" samples come together made my morning.
Glad to hear that! 😄
10:17 I got chills when I heard that again
the goat strikes back
America's - Muskrat Love for Mystery is heaven! That breakdown is crazy!
You must have an Echoic memory, the level of detail that you hear is insane (mostly at a different pitch aswell) , I thought I was a Todd fan but clearly I'm slacking bro
Thanks. Really appreciate the kind words :)

The absolute god of sample hunting… does it again!! ROCK SHOCK
These sample finds are wild! And these are New Trends-era Todd songs we're talking about!
Good job DJPasta!
You must have a team of scholars digging through tons of old tunes and pressíng 'pause' every 5 seconds. Unbelievable job 👍.
Most of us over at the sample hunting discord do just that 😄This video shows mostly my findings, except a few at the end which I credited. There have been some more great finds by the community as well which should be up on whosampled soon.
Mind blowing artist. No words to describe Todd Edwards. This leaves me speechless (in a good way)
This is a fantastic watch. It blows my mind how some of these samples are discovered. Great job 👌🏼
Unreal this! Great work!
Wow...just wow!!! Thanks to everyone and - of course DJPasta - for the effort to find, prepare and compile the samples! :)
This is wonderful thank you!
Thank you so much for this bro. actual legend for putting the time into this
Class.
How you figured these out was incredible
very impressive video
This is awesome! please keep bringing more of this type of content, I really enjoyed it :)
Love this!
Can’t wait to see more
Great video; piecing the samples together on Savior Tonight in particular was outstanding
Thanks 😀
Great channel!)
This might be the best video ever posted on CZcams 👌 Superb stuff
I'm glad to hear that you think that, thanks! 😄
That's amazing, thank you for your hard work!
Thanks!
so good
Wow 2022 actually a great year for samples discoveries !
that's mad how you tracked all these samples. Nice work
Brilliant video, 👏 and yes the saviour tonight breakdown is something else 🙌
Glad you enjoyed, thanks!

is there anything known about Steal Your Heart? that one is my fav
Glad you liked it! :)
Haven't found anything new from that yet I'm afraid. There are 3 samples listed on whosampled at the moment.
Ayo another Caretaker fan
Too much,, Todd the GoD !!❤
you legend.
When I listened to 'Searching', the samples used were from 'Always With You' by Libera.😁
How cool is that?
Nice work Pasta 😀
Thanks for the comment! It was your channel that got me into Todd's music in the first place 😀
9:55 No doubt Todd Edwards is a huge Carpenters fan. No doubt I'm a big Todd Edwards fan :)
💯🔥
tyanks for the reupload my bro! hope to see them in whosampled!

I'm working on a lot of stuff just now but I'll add timestamps to the description soon. They will probably get approved on whosampled soon too.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWOWOOOOOOOWOWOWOOWWWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
9:56 OHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYYYYY GOODDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2:43 this is Sick! 😮
part 2 when
this is exceptional! how do you even go about identifying samples!?
Most of these were found by listening to random music and having something jump out at me that sounded familiar, or being familiar with a certain artists voice or similar textures in their music. Sometimes they even come to me in a dream like the Lazy Susan sample in When Angels Sing.

In You're the one - Main Mix thera are samples of America - You Can Do Magic
Gotta love Todd doing a dig of Laura Nyro
neat,,

6:33 So who sang the "time" in "time to care"? Sounds so much like the same voice.
Not too sure. There are a few similar parts in the same song but nothing matches. Can't remember at this point if I listened to the rest of the album, but maybe it's something from another song on there? There are still some undiscovered samples in here too so there's also a chance it may be from one of those albums.
On when angels sing (idk if its been found or not) there is a snippet of old and wise in the first chop
It's found, ever since the chop was found in Face to Face
12:20 Do any of you know where this missing sample comes from? It's probably from another song by The Carpenters (1970). 🤔
It hasn't been found yet sadly. I saw a theory saying it may be from This Masquerade by The Carpenters. Although similar, I don't think it's it.
@@djpasta3082 Yes, in another video I found that theory too. Actually it could be, since it sounds very similar...
I wish i could do that
when will volume 2 come?
I've put it on hold for the moment. Got a lot going on in life currently. I did plan to have it out much earlier otherwise. I'll try and get back to working on it soon.
8:28 did it get copyright censored?
The audio is still there for me. It's hard panned to the left in the song though. Are your speakers/headphones only playing the right channel maybe?
This man is impossible to copy, haha. I always insert chop samples into FL Studio and have never been able to emulate a copy of the vocal chops.
I can relate to that! I think a skill like that can take a long time to hone, and every time I try it does give me an even bigger appreciation of his craft.
Keep trying and you might be able to get to a level you're happy with soon enough!
Crate digger!
I hadn't realized the immensity of Edwards's debt to soft rock. Does anyone else hear Robert Wyatt's voice at 0:24 (in Someday I Will Find)?
I still don't understand how you identify them... You have a great ear. I only recognise the obvious stuff
It just kinda jumps out at me. It's quite hard to explain. I think it comes from listening to Todd's music so many times and listening to a lot of the music he likes. Song Todd Edwards - Touch? Who knows samples?
Haven't found any for that yet, sorry!
I think there might be a third sample from Claudine Longet - Meditation in What's His Name. I posted a video about this: czcams.com/video/MJ3Sa4f5kx4/video.html

Excellent work. Not trying to be a killjoy but "who sampled" could have saved time on discoveries. 😅
I submitted them to whosampled before uploading this video 😀
