I'm dumbfounded. This treads on a fine line between prodigy and insanity, as all geniuses do. This makes me appreciate even more the ways Todd has for creating his signature sound. Christmas came early this year, a big thank you to all the sample hunters making this possible

Apologies for the reuploads folks! Not used to editing a video this big and a few bugs managed to make their way through despite me checking multiple times before rendering. Knowing the fix was as simple as a few clicks would have bothered me to no end. Enjoy anyways 😅

Most of us over at the sample hunting discord do just that 😄This video shows mostly my findings, except a few at the end which I credited. There have been some more great finds by the community as well which should be up on whosampled soon.

this is exceptional! how do you even go about identifying samples!?
Most of these were found by listening to random music and having something jump out at me that sounded familiar, or being familiar with a certain artists voice or similar textures in their music. Sometimes they even come to me in a dream like the Lazy Susan sample in When Angels Sing.
In more recent times however I've also started using tools like Shazam and Google Assistant to discover new ones. Google in particular is scarily good at picking up on tiny samples.

I have a theory about the still missing sample from face to face. Maybe daft punk and Todd discussed what kind of songs he was into at that time I’d guess 1998-2000. So probably the songs Todd released in that period can contain that song daft punk used for their sample. I have a feeling it could be Dan Fogelberg. BTW I am talking about the sample that goes along with ‚be free‘ from the b-section. Peace ✌🏻
I had the same thought actually. I've been searching a lot of Todd's tracks from around the time of Face to Face's release and found some interesting new samples since this video. If they aren't up on whosampled yet then they will all be in part 2. Most notably there are more Dan Fogelberg samples in the Crazy Love remix, I'm Hopeful and Shut The Door (True Belief Dub Remix).
I think it's looking less likely that Dan Fogelberg has the shaker sample at this point since I think a few of us have searched all his albums before 1981 all the way through.
6:33 So who sang the "time" in "time to care"? Sounds so much like the same voice.
Not too sure. There are a few similar parts in the same song but nothing matches. Can't remember at this point if I listened to the rest of the album, but maybe it's something from another song on there? There are still some undiscovered samples in here too so there's also a chance it may be from one of those albums.
On when angels sing (idk if its been found or not) there is a snippet of old and wise in the first chop

It hasn't been found yet sadly. I saw a theory saying it may be from This Masquerade by The Carpenters. Although similar, I don't think it's it.

12:20 No, the missing sample doesn't come from there, because in Savior Tonight you hear a flute, and in This Masquerade you hear a flute and percussion. So...no, the sample doesn't originate from there.

I've put it on hold for the moment. Got a lot going on in life currently. I did plan to have it out much earlier otherwise. I'll try and get back to working on it soon.

The audio is still there for me. It's hard panned to the left in the song though. Are your speakers/headphones only playing the right channel maybe?
This man is impossible to copy, haha. I always insert chop samples into FL Studio and have never been able to emulate a copy of the vocal chops.
I can relate to that! I think a skill like that can take a long time to hone, and every time I try it does give me an even bigger appreciation of his craft.
Keep trying and you might be able to get to a level you're happy with soon enough!

I still don't understand how you identify them... You have a great ear. I only recognise the obvious stuff
It just kinda jumps out at me. It's quite hard to explain. I think it comes from listening to Todd's music so many times and listening to a lot of the music he likes. You start to recognise certain textures in an artist's music or similar voices. It's like building a database in your head. In more recent times as well things like Shazam and Google Assistant have been useful at identifying samples as well. Google in particular can get samples that are less than half a second even.

Only the two Carpenters samples at the end were found by other people on whosampled and their names are mentioned for those. Otherwise I usually prefer to only feature my own discoveries.
