    Your "air limiter" is actually your mass air flow sensor👍

    I've thought of doing the same thing, I just removed my silencer and put a KN drop in. I could feel the better response, it wasnt dramatic but it was enough to notice.

    Very Nice custom setup!!! Good idea keeping the bottom of the box in place also!!! Will keep away some heat until your moving again from a stop. ;)

    Just bought an 03 so I'm just curiosly watching any vid as I might learn something . This video reminds me of something my dad taught me .
    He said son anything can work !
    You can put windshield wipers on the back of a donkey ( he didn't say donkey ) , they might sling alot of crap , but they will work .
    I already replaced my air filter , but I just remembered I need to change my wiper blades .
    It's 2020 now . I'm going to avoid the blades with filters

    BTW I have 3 Rangers, all built from wrecked vehicles. My 1999 XLT Standard Cab with the 2.5, A 2004 XLT Extended Cab with a 1983 Nissan SD-25 Diesel engine out of my late father's rusted out Model 720 and a 2002 4X4 Extended Cab XLT with a Jeep Liberty 3.7 V6 installed.(The Jeep engine was salvaged from flood vehicles during the July 2022 flood disaster here in Eastern Kentucky.) I salvaged 4 of those motors, 2 of the Jeeps and made nice drives out of all of them. All The engines got cleaned and overhauled. The 4X4 is waiting for me to have a chance to paint it University Of Kentucky blue.

    You can get adapter plates on eBay for $13 for 3.0 rangers and it comes with the filter might not be the best filter but it’s $13 for both haha

    So where did you get that little adapter piece,?? For the spectre filter to be able to bolt onto the oem mass air flow sensor hose? Where did you get it and what would it be called

  • @accomplish_the_little_thin130

    thanks for commenting and to answer your question. the part is called a air box inlet adapter. this will only work for a ford ranger i believe. if you own one then you will have to drill out the holes a little bigger for the intake to allow it and will also need 4 bolts and lock nuts. PS don't let the people at auto zone or advanced tell you you need the 200 dollar plus intake. this intake they will try to sell you will not allow the computer sensor to fit there for it will lock up the engine.

    • @big65mopar
      @big65mopar Před 5 lety +2

      The aluminum foil tray will only be as cold as the air passing over it so if the engine compartment is 150F then so will the foil be.

  • @NKaumans
    @NKaumans Před 7 lety +18

    You're sucking up hot engine air from the bay which is hotter and less dense meaning less power. When companies use pot filters and replace the flat inbox filters they always use heat shields .

  • @jackalister1662
    @jackalister1662 Před 2 lety

    Tried aftermarket stuff on a few engines,including diesels. Still haven’t found any performance gains over stock for every day use. Fuel mileage has gone down on a few cars,but sounds cool when you floor it’s. Used to be we’d flip the air cover lid to get more breath to engine,but again,no real performance on a nearly stock engine. I’ve been building/racing for 50 years and until you fully build an engine,add insult are a waste of time and money.

  • @billrook6165
    @billrook6165 Před 2 lety

    When it comes down to the nut cuttin', Ford would have to prove that the air filter was the cause of, or definitely contributed to, a failure. Otherwise, they would have to stand behind their warranty. That goes for any brand. Online forums are riddled with examples of this fact.

  • @Blindbat1337
    @Blindbat1337 Před 7 lety +9

    While it looks cooler, you are affecting engine performance. Your engine is now sucking in hot air, rather than cold air, like it was before.
    The best thing you could have done is get a K&N filter and pop that puppy in. Also, you can clean your filter regularly. Cold air is better for your engine than hot air.

    You have changed your mass air flow beyond the ability of the computer to mix fuel to air, your running lean and idling high to spec. This decreases your MPG so that's the trade off. It's like racing tune without the exhaust to go with it, no HP upgrade.

      They make cleaner for mass air flow sensor. My MAFS started making my truck idle really bad, can't explain it... Long story short I had electronic cleaner on hand. That worked for me. I read only use the cleaner made for that sensor. I know are local Walmart has it now for a few dollars. Try that first before buying new one.

    the "computer sensor" is a MAF sensor Mass Air Flow- you can get a speed by spectre MAF adapter plate to modify any intake at most parts stores... they come with bolts and make one for your ranger it is cheap... I will be building an intake on my 99 3.0 this weekend for aprox $100 cuz it is cheaper to build the full intake with cone filter then it is to replace that damn hose and my hose is trash. newho nice vid

    Look, a 2003 (or the 1999 I have) no longer has any kind of warranty on it at all. This mod works for the 4.0 V6 and the 2.5 4 banger as well. More power, runs smoother and much better mileage Also consider installing a remote oil filter relocation kit to filter the coolant going to the heater core, a PVC Oil Catch can, LED Headlights (Mine like yours is the 9007 type .) a HHO Gas Generator (IT DOES help mileage. My Ranger has had it over 2 years now and I couldn't be happier) and I have on my little 4 banger, a Cherry Bomb muffler. I got everything except the muffler from Ebay. PS DO NOT USE A FRAM OIL FILTER IF YOU VALUE YOUR ENGINE. THOSE ARE TOO POORLY MADE WITH INFERIOR MATERIALS. I use a Wix myself.NAPA is great. STAY AWAY FROM FRAM.

      I have a 2003 Ford ranger V6 3.0L RWD. I am thinking about doing this and also installing electric fans which will take the load off the water pump and engine and increase MPG and performance along with this filter that also increases MPG and power. My ranger does leak oil from PVC that I just replaced even the new seal for it was replaced still leaks a bit. Just changed the water pump and radiator and upper and lower hoses and fan clutch. I do hear a oscillating noise from the front after the install and can't guess what it is. New belt as well.

    No... just no... spectre makes adapters for the mass airflow sensor... and for 40 bucks you can buy a 3 inch metal air tube that has the same holes for the sensor and vacuum hose.
