I’m starting to think this is less of a curse but more of a super power
What I assume is happening is that Woodie is gaining control over his power, turning his curse into a blessing. Of course, he's still afflicted by the moon and (now) monster meat.

Woodie’s a serial killer whose last victim, Lucy, got fused into his favorite killing axe and developed Stockholm syndrome. He was cursed for killing innocents by turning into a creature to reveal the monster inside. He learned to chop down trees to cope with the fact that he can no longer chop down people. I’m calling it.

BeyondKaos I’m telling you, Woodie was a serial killer whos last victim named Lucy got fused into his favorite murder tool and developed Stockholm syndrome. The curse is to reveal the monster on the inside.
For what it’s worth there’s an unused skin that showed woodie with forehead stitching. And with that I assumed well ever seen the point Lookout dlc? I figured he had a secret life of cults and curses.

Played him for the first time today (I always play with a group of friends) and it was nice to just focus on twigs, grass, and chopping trees in the first night as they got all the rocks
For those who can't seem to figure it out, this IS Woodie's backstory. He is Canada in human-form. He was birthed into existence .1867 seconds before the animation started.

I love everything about this. I love how Woodie's the joke character, and his video is much more goofy than the other dark and serious ones. I love how it doesn't give you even the slightest bit of backstory about how he got into the Constant or how he got his transformation abilities. And I love the little Attack on Titan-ish move he does at the end.
Well they had to do something to make the game more lighthearted and you know what they did it in the best way possible

@@GeoAce51 It's not really rude to have a genuine question. Generally the animations have backstory and of course it's surprising when one dosent. It's not like anyone dislikes the animation either. people still think it's a great animation without backstory, it's just not what we expected since so far all characters (besides this one) have interesting lore with the animation.

Treeguards are good but beginner players end up dying to them very often.

Trolling around? It's an actual rework, he has different forms for different uses.
He is supposed to be good at getting resources, this rework made it so he has a form for fighting and getting around.
Getting around faster means more efficient resource gathering, along with easier living logs since he spawns treeguards more.
As a Canadian, I can say that this is just a regular day in our lives

Woodie killing the titan
Since this explains nothing about woodie’s origins, i thought up a headcanon. Long ago, woodie contracted lycanthropy from drinking water from a lake with a beaver dam in it, eating moose meat, and goose meat, all in the same day, a violation of the unspoken laws of the Canadian wilderness. During a full moon, woodie was in werebeaver form, eating away at trees. When a squirrel ran by him, woodie’s wife lucy tackled him to the ground, saving that squirrel’s life. However, this came at a terrible price. Lucy had enraged a werebeaver. Woodie woke up with a massive headache the next morning, seeing his wife’s torn clothes behind him, and his axe screaming at him to wake up. Two months later, while chopping down trees, woodie saw a tall, thin man behind a tree. The man said, i will give your wife’s body back, if you can chop down all the trees in my forest. Lucy told him not to listen, but it was too late. The deal had been struck. Woodie would later wake up to that same man, saying words that had been said a million times before. “Say pal, you don’t look so good.”

For everyone complaining that this doesn’t reveal any backstory, I found a little something. When examining Nitre, Woodie will say something like, “We used this to build the railroad.” From what I remember from middle school social studies, this would suggest Woodie moved to the USA at some point and worked on the Transcontinental Railroad, because the workers used Nitroglycerin to make tunnels through mountains.

I have a theory that Lucy is Woodie’s dead wife. Woodie made a deal with Maxwell to get her back, and, in a twisted way, wish granted. Except her ghost haunts an axe now, it’s like Abigail’s Flower.
Speaking of Abigail, she also supports this theory. I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to say Wendy wanted her sister back, and technically she did get her back. Okay, she’s a ghost now but I doubt she was able to communicate with her when she was in the real world.
