Brian then had a temporary ejection from the group to let his drug promotion comments blow over and then returned, teaming up with Terry & john to sack the bands management who had scouted Tony as a solo artist back in the beginning and the 3 guys told Tony that going forward they'd be an R&B group, not a fusion group doing pop with Hiphop, Dance and R&B elements. Brian, Terry & John imagined their music would be even better without Tony and they had one OK single but their Album tanked Mortimer didnt leave anyone to rot. He was signed to a lucrative contract as a solo artist and gave the other 3 guys employment not as creatives but just as stage performers of songs he had to create under immense pressure. They made hundreds of thousands of pounds a year and Brian made significantly more than John or Terry but spent it all very quickly. brian had royalties from the Around the World Single on Steam, royalties from 3 tracks on Up All Night (last album with Mortimer) royalties from "E17: Resurrection" the R&B album without Tony and then royalties from his 2001 Solo album. He made bonus cash on his TrueSteppers and Wyclef Jean collaborations. Difference is it was sunk into clothes, jewellery,cars, holidays, drugs etc where Tony got himself a 4WD family kind of car and a second sedan, a family home and put all the rest into investment properties he would renovate and resell. He also started writing via Sony as like a ghost writer so all these singers who have no other skills but win Idol, X factor etc have songs to sing. In 2006 he bankrolled the many tens of thousands of pounds for the reunion Brian wanted to do and after their physical fight brian took off with Terry and John and those three toured as "East 17 " profiting off the 50k plus that Mortimer had just invested in promoting them via the reunion concert and its now ditched album sessions in the studio

He encouraged Brian to write despite Brian being hesitant (brian says so in early interviews) and got Brian extra money via a cowritten track on Album 2 and then 3 or 4 tracks by Brian on album 3 that helped tank the bands sales unfortunately. Brian said he was skint in 06 and tony paid over 40k to make the reunion possible, throughout that Brian mouthed off at him and went behind Tonys back to commission songs written by outside writers instead of Tony and then , on mortimers paid time Brian rocked up late for recording but also mouthed off Tony yet again.
