Thank you so much for doing this, as a person who partially grew up there this is an inspiration
Nice Richard 😮
The Smallest Pride Parade in America was the 1 and only Straight Pride Parade.
A couple years ago this bigoted straight man planned a straight pride parade and got a lot on Online support .
But on the day, exactly 2 people showed up for it .
the guy who planned it and a Gay news reporter from a gay news magazine sent to cover the event .
i think he was from The Advocate .
Wow, Thank you, Chris. Ask people to vote and support President Biden! I love your passion and compassion. Please keep doing good work. Best to you
This is what Pride is all about. Being proud and standing up to oppression. We still have a long way to go!
Yea, so much Pride more and more are being exposed as kiddie touchers. Austin Wolf just got raided and the place was filled, hard drives and all with images and videos of minors. Can't wait for the police to arrest Chis and Artem after all they both gagged along with Austin Wolf.
Pride in taking it up the pokey ?? Right.
As an older gay who grew up during the 80s and experienced the AIDS crisis I am so heartened by the fact that there are young people in America still carrying the torch.
It's not all about hot boy bodies! It's not all about the pretty people....
It's about all people from all walks of life.
Thank you for making that awesome comment!
Isn't it a sin tho ?
@@jasonreese4573 No but you existing definitely is 😉
@@michaelcalle2981
My existence is a sin. Right.
@@jasonreese4573 Bible babble bullshit?
This is a reminder that acceptance is still an uphill battle in places like this and Pride still very much a protest in those places.
The powerful bravery of "Gaying in place" in a small town is inspiring. Go Morgantown !
Being from Malden West Virginia, at 68 to see a Pride in any WV town it's a great thing to see.
Thank you, Chris, for taking the time, effort, and energy to do this. I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and we have both sides here, too. I am the organist at the Parish Church of St. Jerome and we were blessed to be featured on"We're Here" on HBO Max. Times are changing and we just have to take those small steps to make a difference. Thanks, again!!
Taking a few steps backwards, would be going forward.
As I siad the size and turn out does not matter these people have the heart and passion 10 fold.
Thank you Chris for this documentary as it helps them for next year with support and numbers ❤❤
Hi. I am in Huntington WV. I love that you found us here. I helped with the Crosswalk painting that the burnout was done on. There is still so much bigotry in the state that even though it's difficult to deal with, we are working to strengthen ourselves for better inclusion.
As a gay man, I understand why people resent it being shoved in their faces.
I’m so happy to see that you chose a smaller community to highlight. We are everywhere in every part of the world. Some people don’t have the desire or means to live in larger cities. And we should be able to live freely, openly, safely and happy no matter where we live
I feel the same way. I understand why people feel they need to move to urban areas to find belonging. But we're in smaller towns too, and Pride events are increasingly starting to appear out here. When I was young, I never would have dreamt my home town (the "boonies" as some of my city relatives have referred to it) would ever accept LGBTQ people--there wasn't a single out person when I was in high school, including myself. But I returned to my home town last week for its 4th annual Pride fest. Large metro Pride events have an important place. Attending one was the first time I realized how much support is out there. But the smaller Pride events are a sign that the places we can thrive are growing.
Absolutely!
If anyone feels alone or feel no support. I support you. You are strong and never feel ashamed of who you truly are I believe in you stay strong and stay safe ❤🏳️🌈😊❤
Thanks, Chris, for calling attention to this. Way cool reporting/vlogging. Appreciate it.
Chris you are a gem, what a wonderful way you have with ppl! And shoutout to camera person not only following you but framing shots well, getting fun B-roll and stuff full of interest & meaning. Good job editing, but also planning ahead and forming a beautiful narrative arc that easily brings us all along on the journey will you all.
Well done bud
Great to see smaller towns standing up. The hate is the reason!
The hate needs to stop.

On all sides. Especially when internalized.
I am so glad you made this documentary. I'm from the New York area but I went to WVU for college from 1994 to 1998. At that time, it was not even ok to be out on campus. So many of my friends and I kept ourselves in the closet because of the fear of discrimination or worse. It wasn't only LGBTQ+ people in Morgantown who were targeted. I am Jewish and used to go to the synagogue (or as some locals called it, "the Jew Church") and I got quite a few comments about how I was "too nice to have to go to hell" - my dorm mates even tried to baptize me by throwing water on me in the shower, so I could be saved...
WVU is a huge State University with no religious affiliation but Campus Crusade for Christ was everywhere and the Bi Gay Lesbian Student Alliance (BGLSA) had about 15 members (out of 30,000 students). I am so glad to see that there is a parade in Morgantown and that things are changing. Some of my best friends are still the people from WV I went to college with (the more open minded ones...) and it makes me so happy to see the progress being made in a place that I remember as not having been very accepting of differences. Maybe next year my husband and I will go to Morgantown Pride!
Had fun helping out by filming. Awesome video showing our town and that our state has accepting people and allies.
I dated a guy who grew up in Morgantown. Sadly he could not move past his internal fear and homophobia. Mail to him had to have no male name on the senders section. I was about to change his license plate once and he insisted that I pull the car in the garage so the neighbors wouldn't see that he had a man visiting. This guy was a respected and kind doctor. He eventually took his own life while living in Wheeling, WV
It is not easy to be gay in an homophobic environment. I totally understand your friend and it's really sad he couldn't bear this life.
Pretty sad that even to this day we have fascism that causes deep seated hatred towards others and causes so many to live in fear. Places like Europe; Canada and the United States are not necessarily the free thinking societies that we think they are.
I’m so sorry to hear about your former partner. Sending love and hugs.
His fear was beyond pathological.
Chris, this is an excellent documentary of this small Pride event. I would have never known Morgantown, West Virginia would dare attempt a parade. I am amazed and joyful all at once.
I'm from West Virginia. I make trips to Morgantown all the time. It's actually a major party town. Especially WVU football fans.
I'm from there too, but I was young when we moved away. I'm glad it's gotten somewhat better going by what you say.
I'm from a large town of about 62k people in the UK and we don''t have a gay pride parade or any gay bars. Fun Fact though, Ryan Reynold and Rob Mcelhenney co own the town football club.
This makes me feel embarrassed to be living here.
I hope this gets an Oscar nomination for best documentary short. The level of compassion and humanity is incredible. Chris, I think you did an amazing job and showed so much kindness and respect. Bravo!
I'm also from West Virginia. I had no representation growing up. However, both my sister and I are part of the LGBTQ community. I went into the military with college and afterwards was in the AF during don't ask don't tell. I only came out in my mid 30s. My lack of knowledge of myself and education caused me to marry a woman I truly love even though I later realized I couldn't give her my full self. We were married for 10 years. I realized my sexuality eventually and we divorced. I wish she and I could still be in contact, she should have been my best friend. But unfortunately, she doesn't believe I loved her or that gay is real. I'm a pilot now, and was so happy when I had a layover in the Capitol of Charleston and saw a rainbow sticker of the state with the quote "No Hate in our State" ❤ I asked if they had any of those stickers and was told sorry, they sold out super fast! I'm so happy to know there's a future for the LGBTQ community in my home state!!!
Thank you for sharing your truth. People need to see things are not black and white or all rainbows and unicorns either. I've had Gay male friends who although I've loved them as friends I wasn't attracted to them other than platonically. Some even tried to goad me (passive aggressively) into 'manning up' to make a move by saying we were lesbians otherwise. 🤣 One even wanted to make me his "c#*ty, c#*ty sister" 😂 Needless to say we drifted apart. It's also why I sometimes joke about 50 shades of Gay. 😇
@@petemavus2948 it's important to talk about these things, otherwise no one ever gets a different perspective from what they've been taught/told

I love the short film and documentaries from you - you have a talent for this and will continue to make a difference in the world. Thanks for what you do ❤
So much love and acceptance in this video, the homophobia never stood a chance. Another beautiful short film, Mr. Stanley.
This is the most interesting and beautiful coverage of any pride event i’ve ever seen. These Gay people stay in their small town, become vulnerably visible and fight the battle 🏳️🌈 on a very personal level. They are heros to me. It could also be less lonely to be queer and live in a town like this with a Gay community than live in one of the Gay ‘Paradises’ like Madrid, New York or Sao Paulo where you can easily get totally lost into oblivion.
Thank you Chris for doing this so eloquent and also interviewing the kids ‘protector’ (so not) protester. 🙏
This was an amazing video. Great job! We've only had a handful of pride festivals in my town so I can relate to a lot of these people. ❤
As a senior gay man who grew up in a small southern Ohio farm town, this really hits home. It took many years and relocating for me to get to where I was comfortable with being out and with myself. I lost a great many friends, but the new ones who accepted me made all the difference. Keep up the great work!
So EXCITEDDDD!!! So Proud of you Chris! 🥰😇✨
thank you 😊
Coming from a small town, this made me cry. Beautiful people and storytelling. Happy Pride!
Chris. Great topic and produced written and edited with utmost respect. Great job
thanks tony
Gotta respect your talent
Take care of my boy Artem this week Don’t let him get in too much trouble
WOW! Thank you so much for this coverage, Chris! This the reason why Pride exists, and why it is still important and needed! We just posted a vlog covering LA Pride (one of the three cities in the US that did the first Pride back in 1970) and WeHo Pride, and also shared our reflections why Pride still matters today! 🏳🌈🏳⚧💜 Thank you! 🙏
Thank you for doing this. I wish more people understood that being close-minded and filled with hate is not a way to live. Love wins. ❤
It's so bizarre I live 20 minutes from San Francisco, it's Pride Weekend and I feel so alone. It's nice to see these people in a small town have each other.
I too am in SF. I’m now injured and might miss my first Pride here in over a decade. As an elder at home alone during Pride, I feel you, and I wish you a Happy Pride. ❤🏳️🌈
I’m surprised Brett wasn’t with you to back you up👍🏻 Chris you did a great job interviewing everyone and showing us around. Great talent.🌈🫶🏻✌🏻
Thank you for visiting WV. We live in Huntington (where the crosswalk is). I’m so proud of the accomplishments of our Huntington Pride and the efforts they made with the crosswalk. It is a beautiful example of community.
Did the guy that dud the burnout on the crosswalk get charged by the police?
@@chrispickerel2034 he was cited with a low level traffic citation for the squealing of tires. The police said more charges could be pending, but I doubt it. Hell, they have him on camera and his social media boasts. What more do they need?
@@rodneysanders3280 at least he got something, other than a laugh and slap on the back
You really have a talent there Chris I am from that same area when I was young, and this really warmed my heart, seeing and hearing that Pride is there😊 but at the same time brought me to tears to know personally their struggle in West Virginia 😢
The lawmakers don't care.
More young ppl need to get involved with politics.
Great DOC, Chris!! So proud of the LGBTQ + community of Morgantown, for their strength and courage to be who they are!! ❤🌈❤🌈❤
Shout out to all of the LGBTQ folks and supportive friends and family in Morgantown! It is so courageous for you all to come out publicly and identify yourselves in a small town where there is most likely a lot of less-than-supportive people! Thank you for being brave and know that some silent youth (or adults) are encouraged by your visibility! Happy Pride!
Happy International Gay Pride Day 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Maybe it’s time for a group roadtrip to Morgantown, WV in a show of support, solidarity and pride!
When communities see how much money comes in, because of Pride, they will become more welcoming. Money is, sadly, what fuels our advances and we must remember that a politician can take those away.
Another hopefully award winning film from StanChris. I loved this SO MUCH as it demonstrates that, no matter where you live, big or small, Pride can happen. Happy Pride 🏳️🌈
❤️❤️❤️🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Chris. This is awesome. I had to wipe away tears several times as I listened to the people at the Morgantown Pride. That means you made a meaningful documentary that made a difference. I don’t think you can ask for anything more validating than that. Great Job!!!!
❤❤❤
THANK YOU CHRIS FOR THIS VIDEO ! am a 61-year-old gay man, Old School. I have been to and worked for many of the Pride Committee from NYC to SF. I live in Wilton Manors the gay hood. This video touched my heart very much. I always believed in Quality not Quantity. I will make an effort to reach out to all the community in The US to support you. not just money but help in what to do and how to fight those battles peacefully. We SUPPORT YOU ! I think next year i will go to Morgantown for Pride. The original parade came from protest and the parade is to show your pride. A pride celebration is just that Pride and protest. Next year have your parade, a protest to show you cant stop us. Then later find a place to celebrate. A park or a auditorium. Some place to celebrate safely. your community is behind you we will help you !!!!
Thanks for spotlighting WV Chris!
This video is my favorite video you have ever posted. I see you doing great things in the future.
Thanks from an old queer man in Alabama!
glad you enjoyed it 😊
This is so great. Possibly your best content in the years I have followed you since you were just a teen making vids in your bedroom. Please keep this up - shorts and these docs in small, unseen places that so truly need exposure and the encouragement of someone like you showing up
This is sad in a few different ways but I love seeing their spirit no one can bring them down happy pride Morgantown WV we love you. I hope we see more love in the world ❤
Thankyou for showing us this light. I know we're not accepted by everyone everywhere but let people live we are all human. Love everyone like family and the world will be so much better. Let's organize something for next year and blow this small towns mind that would be awesome!
I send support from Europe, Belgium. It may be small and short right now but remember it’s been documented and it’s now part of our history. Next time it will be stronger and stronger... The roots are growing and the tree will bent but not break thru the storm. ❤️🌈❤️
This is an excellent documentary, Chris. I hope that it will be seen by lots of people here and elsewhere. If there is a competition you can submit it to, do it. I think that it would certainly be in the running for an award. Your editing and use of music were great, as usual. I think that you should consider making more documentaries, and not just those concerning LGBTQ+ issues. I think that this documentary shows what you can accomplish in the future, if you choose to go that direction. 👍👍👍👍👍/5 🌈🌈🏳🌈🏳🌈
I think our town's pride was smaller. We had about 30 people for the 3rd Annual Days Creek and Tiller Pride Day.
The day was wonderful, but as always, our flags were torn down and thrown in the river.
You should come next year! We are hoping to do a drag show.
oh wow! That would be awesome
@StanChris I finished the full video, it was amazing!!! Thank you for bringing small community pride events to your fan base.

And let Live... WV has always had a problem with that .

I think it was John Denver told me the same thing. Joni said "Morning Morgantown" 😎
My Dad was born in Morgan Town, and I was born In Fairmont. My family left when I was 8 years. I'm 72 now and I must honestly say I have no fond memories of that place. So viewing this is no shock to me. Small Town, small minds! I hope it's changed, but you sometimes can't change the way some people think. But, it is what it is!
When you tie people to their ghosts you become one with them. Evolution is hard, arduous and time consuming, have faith and lead by example.
Chris, this was so incredibly sweet! I’m fortunate to live in Columbus, Ohio now, and incredibly gay friendly city, but I lived the majority of my life in a more rural part of the state. Since coming out in 2009, I’ve been fortunate, having served as a volunteer and board member for Equality Ohio, to travel to Prides all over Ohio. The sweetest ones are always the small ones. Cincinnati, Cleveland , and Columbus (largest in the MidWest) are amazing, but it’s Portsmouth, Mansfield, my hometown of Zanesville, and even teeny tiny Jackson Pride that are the ones that I always end up crying at some point because people are so happy (and sometimes bravely scared) to be out in public with members of their community. I attended the first ever Pride festival in Portsmouth. They had police officers in the park because, just the day before, there had been death threats against board members and threats of violence against the festival itself. Thank you so much for highlighting the amazing work that these folks are doing in Morgantown. This is the true frontline of Pride and the reason why those of us who are able to be publicly out as LGBTQ+ need to continue to push and advocate for change in society and at all levels of government!
❤❤❤
Awesome video. Thank you so much for coming down and showing your support. We’re still teasing Jack about stealing your interview. It was a pleasure to meet you, and come back next year!

In my eyes I saw I huge, love filled Gay pride parade! This was in no way small by any scale. Kudus to all in Morgantown who took to the route and cheered on the participants!
I drive through Morgantown every time I visit my parents, for as big as Morgantown is, mainly because of WVU, I'm flabbergasted how small the pride parade is.
Love is winner 🏳🌈
This is a beautiful & well made documentary Chris , very impressive. Was interesting to see the similarities and contrasts with a small UK pride such as Oxford . Bigger than this but certainly still a small community. They seem to have similar close community friendships, but it’s a university town so much more support from the wider community. Hope to see more documentaries like this, well worth all the work you’ve put into it .
Awesome short Doc, submit it to the Oscars! It doesn't hurt to take chances! 👍😎🏆
😂😂 Thanks Kyle!!
Small but welcomed. Very good presentation--informational and entertaining. Edit: Gentleman remarked about the hills. Such a true statement. I love the mountains. As a child my family would drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall. We would stop at pullovers to enjoy the beauty of the leaves changing color. I attended two universities in the mountainous regions, climbing one mountain that invited me to the challenge. Looking from the top across other hills and down on the valley is awe inspiring. I visit the mountains on many occasions, preferring them to the beach. There is something about mountains that speak to the soul.
Nice statement: The sun doesn't always shine in this town but the people do. Great respect they fight for our right to be included.@ chris would like to see more of this content. Will support you on Patreon as a Christmas gift! Take care and ❤ and hug to you and your bf from Amsterdam. 🥰

Thank you for this video. The huge Pride events are fun and accessible for so many. But these smaller Pride events help people that rarely get to be themselves have that chance, and can be impactful for the community. I particularly enjoyed your conversation with Ash, and how they’ve taken actionable steps to keep the community safe ❤️.

Chris, I must say you continue to amazing me with your video work. This little documentary is a HUGE deal for everyone living in small communities. Your approach and interview style is so authentic and genuine. Whether it was your intent or not, one of the most important messages that comes for this doc to other LGBTQ+ people watching is "You are not alone" . People, young and old (like me), still need to hear this message. Especially those who live in small communities. Thank you for sharing this amazing project. I am very excited to see your future projects. Cheers and Thank You!
I cannot like this video enough. I truly appreciate your reaching out to those that would not have a voice and validating them by offering a voice. Thank you!
Awesome documentary. I just stumbled across it and watched it in aw. You are an excellent videographer. You didn't make fun of one person, but showed them all in such a great way. I wanted to compliment Thomas for his first pride, but then the stories kept coming and I gave up writing down names. Excellent and entertaining.
I was born and raised in rural WV and left 40 years ago and now live in San Francisco. But I’m so very proud of locals proudly being themselves and celebrating that pride in my home state, something I didn’t have the courage to stay and do. Well done y’all. May it grow and change minds. ❤️🏳️🌈
well, you went to the smallest pride in America. how about the cities that officially banned pride? for example: Torrance, CA.
i’ll have to look into that! 🤔 Maybe for my next doc

So very well done. Growing up in a tiny town in Kansas, even a small pride would have been life changing for me as a kid.
