  • In this video I’m taking the Ford 8n loader tractor out to get some redemption! When I tried this before the old tractor cut out and died and was barely able to limp itself back home. After a few upgrades the old Ford is ready to give it another try, but not before having a bit of fun first!

    I have just been gifted a 1950 8N with a near identical front end loader and bucket. Much thanks for showing me what it needs to do as soon as I get the old gal running (probably this week). The only problem is my 3 acres are a bit confining for this rig! I feel fortunate mine has no cracks or leaks in the bars used as the hydraulic oil reservoir!

    Great viewing community and neighbors. Gives me hope, I moved to the country near my step family and where I hunted as a kid. I ended up surrounded by the worst people (not stepfam), although a few are very sweet and kind, but the 2 main families who owned the lands around me have evolved into 2 spoiled mommies boys , one who never worked and run commercial operations on our shared private lane. Only comes out to chop wood, while I'm out working in every downpour to save my stuff because he refuses to add drainage to his 5 plus acres that sits above me and 2 90 year old couples. Anyways, the 2 tires are especially thoughtful, you're a good person and made many people happy with your gesture , not just the recipient. Those AGs makes the tractor but it's so hard to spend that money,

Playtime actually looked like a lot of fun...it’s ok to cut loose once in a while. Good luck with the tires! If you have the right tools it’s not too bad, but if you don’t and you’re making do by jury rigging then it’s a pain in the rear! I no longer have the time or patience, and would just pay the $100 to mount them. Stay safe!

    Tyler, the hardest part of the rear tires is breaking the bead. drive them flat a few feet if needed, 2 or 3 tire spoons will get it done with little grease if needed. "The o- ring Store" will have all your cylinder seals just take them apart measure & order. "Surplus Center" for hydraulic hoses get NPT swivels for each end and simple NPT hoses. Makes those Sunday afternoon break downs easier to fix!

    As others have said, you'll be a bit light I the rear lifting a 9-11 hundred lb round bale. Since you're mounting rears anyway, dump some used antifreeze in them for weight. You are also going to want a 3 point spear for the rear to save you time and add weight. I can send you dimensions for building a simple one if needed. Oh yeah 3/16 3x3 sq tube will be plenty for both the front and rear spears. That's all I use and I've never had a customer bring one back for repairs yet.

  • @timpatrickhanna
    @timpatrickhanna Před 2 lety

    I think the tractor would be a lot more stable on you if you added some counterweight. I just put an implement in the three point hitch. I like to use a box blade or even a mower or brush hog when I'm doing loader work.

    I appreciate your desire to rebuild the 8N,, but I would advise you to get a bale spear for the back of your New Holland to handle the round bales. It’s very difficult and dangerous to try to handle the round bales period, much less on a light two wheel drive tractor. I used to use a MF I35,, so I’m speaking from experience. Hope you’re successful, but a three point hay spear is relatively cheap, especially if you build it yourself.
