I have ZERO idea why I can't stop listening to this song in all of it's many versions. I can't understand a word, but the tune is absolutely infectious. I will be humming it for the next 5 hours now, I'm sure.
Tell me about it. My football team, Stabæk played a match in Finland and while playing a video for the fans on the bus going to Finland, they played this song in the background. I just had to get it immediately, so I contacted Ubuntu Finland and asked them what it was, but they didn't know, so they used their networks and someone's mother recognized it. Finally, I got the CD, but then I was hooked so I had to learn how to sing it even though I can't speak a word of Finnish. Once I had that nailed according to Finnish people I came to meet and present it to, I had to make guitar for it. Now I can play my own version and people say it's perfectly intelligible, but I still have no clue what I'm singing about.
It's amazing how hooked you can get on this thing. I started in 2009, I think. What is it now, 2035 or something? :)

I started listening to the Ievan Polkka after my dad showed be a video of Donald Trump dancing to it, Joe Biden replacing Bilal Gorgen and a vibing cat singing this on Facebook.

Well it is sort of a short story or poem about a girl called Ieva.
I grew up speaking finnish as my second language untill i was 8. When I was 20 i tried relearning it and I can attest that it is impossible.

I saw this a while ago, them singing from a balcony. It sounded like an important message that I didn't understand ("Tukkee Suus!").
But now... At last ! With the help of these lyrics, I can finally oh hell naw still don't understand one bit :p
"Tukkee suus" (tuki suusi) meaning "shut up your mouth". But "tukkia" means you can obstruct with hand your mouth or something. If you speak everything what you thinking. This is example, how hard language is spoken language.
It's some form of Elvish.

Well it's also heavily dialectic. I guess the "proper" written form would look like a cat walked on the keyboard as well though :D
Some parts are mostly onomatopoetic, like "salivilihipput tipput tapput äppyt tipput hiljallleen" The last word "hiljalleen" is the only word in the sentence that means something, the rest is onomatopetic with no meaning. Other parts of the song tell a normal story.
