- First Time Hearing LoveBites "Set The World On Fire" REACTION what up Sycho Nation and welcome back to the Asylum. Today is Monday Mashup so we are taking a look at a new band called LoveBites. This is a Japanese metal band that is taking Japan by storm and I can see why.
Lovebites is not what it seems when you first see them on stage OH NO these innocent looking girls got some metal to dish out. The song Set the world on fire is INTENSE. With sinfully sweet singing and killer shredding this band has turned the metal world on their heads.
With two lead guitarists and a killer drummer and bassists the sky is the limit for lovebites. Guitar battles and heavy riffs are not the only thing these young ladies have to offer when it comes to their music. So come in sit down and prepare to be blown away as LoveBites tears up the stage. LOVEBITES are the GODDESSES of heavy , power , thrash metal ! In 2018 , LOVEBITES won the prestigious Metal Hammer GOLDEN GODS Award for "Best New Band" (London,UK). The winners of the GOLDEN GODS Award in different years and in various categories were such famous bands and musicians,such as : Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Twisted Sister, Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy Kilmister, Zakk Wylde, Nikki Sixx, Joe Perry, Judas Priest, Anthrax, Slayer, Saxon, Nightwish, Rammstein, Sabaton, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy (and this is not a complete list).
LOVEBITES is a Japanese female power metal band, formed in 2016 by former Japanese heavy metal band DESTROSE members Miho( bass,backing vocals) and Haruna(drums). The band has successfully performed at various major international rock-festivals many times .In the spring of 2018, LOVEBITES performed on the Japanese leg of the Warped Tour. In August 2018, they performed at Wacken Open Air (Germany), becoming the first Japanese female rock band to perform at the festival. Also in August 2018 they performed on the main stage of Bloodstock Open Air (UK). In 2019, LOVEBITES performed at the Download Festival in both Donington (UK) and Madrid (Spain). Their performance in Donington was named by the festival organizers and Metal Hammer magazine as one of the highlights of the festival! In the same year they performed at the Graspop Metal Meeting (Belgium) and the Summer Sonic Festival (Japan). Unfortunately, the Covid pandemic that began in 2020 prevents LOVEBITES from performing at festivals and forced a drastic reduction of concerts.
LOVEBITES is a phenomenal band, all the ladies are talented musicians! For 5 years they have recorded about 50 songs and all the songs are very good!
🐺Miho - bass, backing vocals (in August 2021 she left the band).
🐺Haruna - drums.
🐺Midori - guitars, backing vocals.
🐺Miyako (Mi-Ya)- guitars, piano, keyboards, backing vocals.
🐺Asami - lead vocals, piano.
🐺Miho started playing bass in high school. Great bass player! The fact that such a wonderful band appeared is, first of all, the merit of Miho. She came up with the idea of starting a band and what kind of music the band would play, a combination of power metal and "old school" heavy metal. Miho was able to find and unite all these talented ladies in LOVEBITES.
🐺Haruna has played drums since she was thirteen years old, and began writing songs on a keyboard at fourteen.
Haruna is the smallest (4 '9 ") , but appearances are deceiving. When Haruna sits down at the drums, this is the "little BIG Engine." She is one of the best drummers in Japan.
🐺Midori (blond hair) has been playing the piano since she was two years old and the electric organ since she was eight. She started studying guitar at the age of 20. Super guitarist, "Crazy Shredder". She surpasses many male guitarists in speed and technique of playing the guitar.
Graduated from ESP / MI JAPAN Osaka , GIT-DX department (superfast guitar department). ESP / MI JAPAN Osaka is an international music school , headquartered in Hollywood, California, USA.
🐺Miyako (black hair) has been playing the piano since the age of three, received a classical education (piano) and wanted to pursue a career as a pianist. She has been playing the guitar since the age of 18. Super guitarist! They call her "The Golden Touch" and she is a real musical genius. Miyako is the main composer of the band, she wrote over 50% of the music.
* In terms of teamwork , synchronization and harmonization of guitars , Midori and Miyako today are perhaps the best pair of guitarists in the world playing metal. One music critic said that two guitarists of this level (Midori and Miyako) in the same band is a crime!😊
🐺Asami started with R&B and soul music . She studied classical ballet for about 16 years (this is noticeable in her movements on stage, especially the movements of her hands). Started ballet lessons at the age of two. After leaving school, Asami lived for some time in the US, where she came to study jazz and hip hop dance. Plays the piano. Asami wrote most of the lyrics of the band's songs.
All songs LOVEBITES are written in English. Unlike other metal bands, LOVEBITES are always on stage in white dresses . White dresses are their style. The Wolf is the mascot of LOVEBITES and is featured on all band's albums except the first EP "The Lovebites". The band's fans call themselves the 🐺Wolfpack🐺

When I first saw LOVEBITES my jaw smack the floor the same way. 😊It was about two years ago and it was the song "Thunder Vengeance" from the third LOVEBITES album "Electric Pentagram" (2020). The authoritative magazine Metal Hammer included "Electric Pentagram" in the list of the 20 Best Metal Albums of 2020.

The best Lovebites reactions are the ones where the reaction is by someone who appreciates the genre and is obviously blown away. Forget growling. My generation was fortunate not to have to endure Neanderthal growling passed off as singing. Lovebites are the antithesis of metal past. Haha, that was fun to watch. And that's only scratching the surface. Their first album alone would put many established metal bands to shame and they have only gotten better since. Their latest album Electric Pentagram is a nonstop barrage of masterful guitar playing, tasty bass work, great, precise drumming and soaring vocals. It's a true assault on the senses and I love it. They have written some of the best guitar solos you'll ever hear.

It looks like you have already received plenty of comments from Lovebites fans (the Wolfpack). I will only add that Miyako, the guitarist on stage left, composed the music for Set The World On Fire and Asami, the vocalist, wrote the lyrics. Miyako is a triple threat - world class guitarist, world class pianist and world class composer. She also sings background vocals and has gotten pretty good on the bass. She started playing piano at age 3 (which is really not unusual for children in Japan) but did not start on the guitar until she was 18. She is self taught and learned through a series of books that teaches how to play individual metal songs step by step. The other guitarist, Midori, did not start on the guitar until she was 20. She chose metal because she was told it was the toughest genre of music for a guitarist. Miho, the bassist, formed Lovebites in 2016 when her previous band, Destrose, ended. The drummer, Haruna, is also former member of Destrose who left the band for marriage. Miho convinced her to get back in the game. Miho wanted a band that played in the NWOBHM style because that is her favorite being a big Steve Harris fan. She wanted a singer that had experience singing in English and had soaring Bruce Dickenson like vocals. Asami had spent some time in the US and had a background singing R&B and Soul in English. She also can certainly handle the soaring vocals. Lovebites started very strong with their first full length album in 2017. Everything was going very well for them until last summer when Miho decided to leave the band. They took a hiatus to search for a new bassist, not to mention both Asami and Miyako got married and had babies. A new bassist should be announced soon, I am hoping with a new song and music video.
I suggest the next song be Break The Wall. It is the only song cowritten by Miho and Miyako.

Good reaction, There are a lot of hard-headed critics who decide what's real and what's fake about things other than music.
this is true and like i said i based my initial thoughts on how they looked but yea that whole judging books by their covers def came into play in this. Doesn't matter how you look if you are metal you are metal

Try Break the Wall from them next. Or maybe Holy War. Or Hammer of Wrath or Thunder Vengeance. If you want a softer one, try Swan Song, which they introduce with a Chopin etude on the piano.

In my opinion, Miyako (right) and Midori (left) are not only the best guitar duo going today, but arguably the best lead guitar duo ever. The more you listen, the more you may believe that. Haruna is one of the best metal speed engines I have ever heard, and in 50+ years of listening to metal I've heard a lot of great drummers. Miho (the bassist who left the band last year) kept perfect pace with Haruna. And Asami is such a counter metal voice that fits perfectly.
No growls, please. Plenty of metal bands that due that, who needs it when it all sounds so technically perfect.

I appreciate your reaction to Lovebites and spreading the word; they deserve more recognition. Well, you’ve just watched greatness. These women are extremely talented, skillful, versatile and proficient musicians. They really shine in their live performances. Yes, those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just six years. Through the fire and flames? Well, it happens that they toured the UK in 2019 opening for Dragonforce and also they are good friends. They toured Europe in 2018 and 2019. They performed at Wacken Open Air, Germany, in 2018. Asami used to sing R&B, jazz and soul before she joined Lovebites. Miyako (black hair guitarist) is also a concert level pianist. In an interview, Miho (ex bassist) said that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. Some people say that they’re redefining metal. My next recommendations are “Thunder vengeance”, “Break the wall”, “The Awakening/Hammer of wrath”, “Shadowmaker”, “Above the Black Sea”, “Scream for me”, “Don’t bite the dust”, “Raise some hell” (all live). Their catalog is about 50 songs and practically no fillers; they’re that great. By the way, expect the unexpected from Lovebites.

welcome to the world of japanese metal. first off great reaction second you have only scratched the serfice of what this band can do. love bites is an amazing metal band but you should check out a few more bands here are a few suggestions.

Miyako, the guitarist with the long black hair playing the Dean, was 4 months pregnant when they played this concert.
So you didn't know that rock and metal got themselves visas and moved to Japan I can give you 10 to 15 bands all female that play their own instruments that shred and will melt your face welcome.

What I really like about the two guitarists is how Midori (the blonde) and Miyako (the dark-haired one) use their contrasting styles of playing to push each other to greater heights.
Then you have Miho (the original Bassist you see here and the Co-founder of the band) who is often overlooked in the same way that MANY of the Bassists from Metal bands have unfairly and unfortunately been overlooked.
Then you have Asami on vocals who has a GREAT voice in my opinion, and to me seems like the female equivalent of Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden or Kai Hansen from Helloween or the vocalist (I think his name is Harry Conklin, but please correct me if I'm wrong) from Jag Panzer.
And then you have the drummer Haruna (Co-founder along with Miho), who's drumming style is reminiscent of a bit of Paul Bostaph as well as a hint of Dave Lombardo and Tim 'The Missile' Yeung (from the debut album Conquering The Throne from Hate Eternal), but with her own style/talent of playing. One reason why Haruna is sometimes referred to as "The Pocket Nuke".
In my opinion the contrasting styles of playing from Midori and Miyako are what it might have sounded like if Kerry King and Kirk Hammett had ever played on stage together in the early days of Slayer and Metallica.
Just my own personal opinion anyway.

They don't do growls (as yet) because it's not part of the style, which is a cross-section of 80s metal styles: classical metal, thrash, power metal, and a bit of hard rock (sometimes with a bit of soul influence). This is one their heavier and faster tracks; they have quite a stylistic range. I think you're going to like them.

Yes, it's the same singer in both cases. Before Lovebites, Asami worked as an R'n'B/soul and occasional rock backup singer.

2020 was kind of supposed to be their year, with a new great album and just warmed up for Dragonforce during their UK tour... Sadly COVID hit and all activity was put on ice.
Just as with a few other japanese bands, as babymetal and Band-maid.
Last band has been scheduled to tour the US this month with 13 gigs. Most sold out, but i believe there is still tickets for the New Jersey show? Recommend checking out the official live of "Domination" from 2020, or the video to "Blooming". Both are on their channel.
P.S. You might be lost in "translation" since they sing in japanese, but believe both have CC.
Had a quick scroll through your channel, seems like this is your first encounter with japanese rock/metal, oh boy are you in for a jorney... The japanese scene is huge and it has been for a very long while, but they like staying in their tiny bubble, the internet is starting to shed some light on that corner of the planet and a few bands are getting some well deserved recognition.
So, Lovebites dont do growls, that not their type, but you can expect all kinds of metal, mostly oldschool inspired, from thrash metal, to power metal, to power ballads and anything in between.
I vote for Swan Song with chopin intro for your next reaction.
And if you really want to see some japanese women growl, then Hanabie - We Love Sweets is you next stop. Not the biggest of bands, but they deserve a few more ears on them so im spreading the word.
Okay man first of all thank you very much and second not all bands growl that play metal if that's what you're used to then it should be a wider spectrum assumption. And that's not in a bad way that's just a lot of people what they're so used to hearing. If you really want to stunner do break the wall from them it's probably one of my best songs from them and you'll see what the enlightenment is. Stay fresh stay safe

They wear white because they are very petite ladies. Asami, vocals, is 4'10" and Haruna, drums, is 4'9". No-one is taller than 5'2".
White reflects the light so they stand out on the dark metal stages. Otherwise they would disappear.
