I'm Icelandic and live in Iceland, and I am impessed on how accurate this video is
I am Swedish and live in Northern Sweden and this just sounds like home.
Aww thank you so much ☺️ I’m glad my observation was current 🤗
Same
Many pictures in this video aren’t from Iceland, still much of what you say is accurate.
THE ISLAND WELL-KNOWN FOR ITS DISGUSTING ANIMAL ABUSE!!!!

There is little snow in Reykjavík but lots of snow in other parts of the country.

Don't tell people in Reykjavik that! BLASPHEMY!
I’ll tell ya!! I’m so beyond thankful I did the research I did prior to my trip!! I made sure to be as prepared as possible!! It was such a dream vacation for me!!
We were in Iceland in May this year and absolutely loved it! Thankfully I watched some videos like this one so had a good idea of what not to do. We took reusable water bottles(we always do no matter where we go) and we even brought small thermal coffee mugs too. We shopped at Kronan which was a great store, but bought our bread from the Sandholt which was right beside our hotel, great restaurant and amazing baked goodies too!! Highly recommend. Our hotel had really good black out curtains so eye masks went required. I agree with you about the wind! We never went anywhere without our warm jackets, gloves and hats, and usually had our rain jackets and pants with us too. Iceland is amazing and beautiful! Taak for these kinds of videos! I think I watched your video on Norway as well, which we travelled to from Iceland!! Our favourites were Snaefelsnes and Glacier Lagoon! No crowds at all in May!! And great weather!
Hi Anna! I just found your youtube channel and I love it! Your videos are fun and informative at the same time, which is exactly what I was looking for!
I love to learn little details and fun facts about different countries that I want to visit one day so your content is definitely my cup of tea haha.
I would love to do Spanish subtitles for your videos and then share it with my friends, family and fellow travelers. If that's something you'd be interested in, please let me know!
Love from Argentina :)
Thank you for sharing. This was appreciated more than you know. I'm going in May of 2023. I am going by myself so I will heed your advice about hiking alone. I will definitely watch my driving speed.
I like this video, pretty spot on 💯 Best regards from Iceland 🇮🇸
Great sense of humor and I really like your English pronunciation. The info in your videos is intuitive, useful and fun.
You are a hoot!! So fun to watch! Looking forward to our June trip to Iceland
I spent 2 weeks in Iceland in May 2012. Since it was before the tourist season, I enjoyed the most touristic places being almost free of people. Dettifoss... maybe 3 or 4 cars parked nearby. Jokulsarlon... no queues and only 2 small boats for like 8 people total. This was magic.
Very impressive Videos ,well organized . I believe everything what you say about these country ,the good and the bad . Never being in Russia but it's the Best Country I like .Love your work Anna
I was going to rip you a new one, but ill be watching your videos from now on. your understanding of Iceland is very good.
All points are spot on, especially the one about uselessness of umbrellas 🤣🤣. Great video
And btw, your pronunciation of Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón were spot on
Thank you for this video. You have made a heavy positive influence on our trip to Iceland.
The amount of snow in Iceland depends on the region, and changes every year. In the North and the East, you can have plenty of snow. In the South, some years can be very snow heavy, while other years they are not. When it comes to Icelandic weather, never say never.
Informative and entertaining video. Thank you for sharing.
I have visited Iceland many times and it’s always nice to have a different opinion on things, you made it fun, made me smile. I had the great pleasure in working all over Norway too, always have your coat made me smile so much as many time I have been caught out and had to buy another whilst out and about.
Anna, You are delightful! I really enjoyed your Iceland video. I am hooked. Time to watch your other videos.
Not sure I'd classify Blue Lagoon as a "tourist trap", exactly. It's definitely catered to tourists, but it's also a legitimately spectacular place located in an unforgettably unique landscape, and has the benefit of being about 20 minutes from the airport. It's expensive, but not unreasonable for someone who, between airfare, lodging, and car rental, is probably spending a couple thousand on their trip anyway, and after a long and exhausting flight, it's a pleasant way to relax for a few hours before continuing on.
That said, for any time other than the morning of your arrival in Iceland, I agree that the Secret Lagoon is a better option. It's cheaper, and has a more natural setting. And while the Blue Lagoon water is naturally heated, it is artificially pumped. By contrast, the Secret Lagoon is visibly fed by natural hot springs that are adjacent to the pool. It's a much smaller pool than the Blue Lagoon, but also much less crowded.
Sorry , But I have to ad to this. Don’t go in the. shit hole,Ilive in Grindavik Icelandic don’t go it there!! Price is mad ! And you have to book your time and only get one 1 hour in there
yeah, i promess, the best you can have in Paris is a 7€ 50meters public swimmingpool crowded ;p
or a 5* palace very small swimming pool but 2-300€ for the night.
Great video thanks and thanks for the tips
Absolutely beautiful, makes me want to go back. (actually wanted to go back as soon as I got home)
The Route 1 or the Ring Road around the country has lots of incredible sites to see just off it.
Personally coming from a tourist town, it was great to see not much traffic at all...outside Reykjavik.
As Anna said never drive off road, and only 4WD vehicles are allowed in the interior, for your safety and the vehicle's.
Good things to say about Iceland are unlimited.❤
🤩🤩 love your comment! Thank you very much ☺️ I’m so happy I got those things right 😉
I do appreciate comments like this, especially coming from Icelanders!
Thank you so much and have a great week ahead!
@@AnnaGoldmanTravel Hi Anna, unfortunately I am not Icelandic but just a Canadian who traveled Norway and Iceland for... not long enough, but felt like home when there but your points were great.
Talked with as many local as possible around the country to get to know what they like and don't, a little more in depth than what one might see from the tourist traps, similar to the one I live in.
Love your vids from both countries and made a list from some fantastic tips you mentioned, will be useful when back there some day.
Just found you today and I’m so glad. Headed to Iceland and Norway for the first time this fall. Appreciated the tips.
@@Franklincm12 One of the biggest dangers are the roads. Not the condition, they are good and little traffic in relation to big cities. The danger is keeping your eyes on the road due to the amazing landscapes, hard not to look at while driving...in both Norway and Iceland.
One week in Iceland was the bare minimum to drive around the country on the Rte 1 road.
Thanks Anna, I'm headed there next year to do the Laugavegar trail 😊
Very informative❤❤❤thank u 4 sharing❤❤❤❤
I wish I would have had the sense to visit your country when I was young and mobile. It appears to be a wonderful place.
I was stationed at the agreed area at the airport and loved your country. The hot dogs are the best.
Will save this for my second trip . My upcoming first trip , I want to do all of the tourist things .
Great video, currently here on holiday and this is all very accurate. Also, her pronunciation of Iceland is living rent free in my head 😂
10/11 is almost only in downtown Reykjavik. Bonus is cheapest and has almost all of the same stuff as the other grocery stores.
I love your energy❤❤❤
It so excited about the video and however teaching certainly things about the Iceland and how to do in Iceland
I wouldn't say there's very little snow in Iceland. There's very little snow in the capital in the south of Iceland, but Iceland in general gets a decent amount of snow overall. But it is true that Iceland doesn't get as much snow as you'd expect considering the country's latitude on the globe, that's a result of the Mexican gulf stream which does heat up Iceland's oceans and consequently raises the average temperature.
Much love to you guys 🎉🎉with your work
Great content. Thank you.
Main takeaway:
Iceland is a wilderness. Like Alaska, Canada, Cascades, Rockys.
If you go hiking, do what experienced hikers and campers do.
If you aren't experienced, go with a guided group.
I must say I really enjoyed this. Thanks a lot
Aww thank you so much indeed ☺️🤗
I’m really happy you enjoyed this video 🙂
I had a friend from Reykjavik. It was funny, 'cause we'd have over a meter of snow and -30 c (colder with the wind chill) in Chicago, but it would be only freezing or above freezing in Iceland. lol
For Reykjavík this is extremely accurate,,,, Go to the west, north or east and it's miss information for the most part
Highly informative, even for a native. Gott stuff!
I just love her; made me laugh. Looking forward to visiting is September. Thanks for the big share!
💪🎸 🤟
I was there in 2008. Most bizarre landscapes and natural features I have seen anywhere. Sulphurous vents hissing next to the main highway into Reykjavik are unsettling! The lobster soup is one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted! 👍
Before Iceland became a popular tourist spot Blue Lagoon was affordable(around 10USD per person) and families went there regularly.
Now it's definitely a tourist trap and mostly foreigners and some couples go there now.
I lived in Iceland for 2 years 99-00. The old Blaa' Lonið (Blue Lagoon until the new one on 2000) was locals only after 1800 in the winter. It looked like Mad Max in the Thunderdome with waves of scalding water, so fun. I've visited all the Reykjavik the pools (lauginn) and by far my favorite is A'rbaerlaug, great view of Reykjavik.
How true. I went to high school in Reykjavík in the 1970s and the blue Lagoon was a decent place. Now it's a hyper - expensive tourist trap.
@richardgardner5568 l went to the old blue lagoon too. Mad max looking for sure, it's was more therapeutic than the New one.
the whole island is a tourist trap...all is expensive, average tourist spend 2000€/week , and for europe we can go in many cheaper place on south of europe.
and its good its stay expensive, you dont want halve the price and have 4x more tourist really. bad idea.
yet cite me a city in europe where you get a big outdoor hot bath and quality..i only see Budapest so this blue lagoon isnt a bad spot but expensive one for family.
I was at many of those attractions that are free and I do not regret it. (you have to pay only for parking at some places)
My most favorite experience were East-Fjords... especially route to the vilage of Seyðisfjörður (yeah, don't ask me how to pronounce that). And more than Gulfoss I liked the Dettifoss in the east part of the country. It was totally breathtaking.
And I wasn't in West-Fjords yet, but I hope I will return and check them too.
Having own car (or rented one) is the best option to see and experience as much as possible.
I’m new to your Chanel and I love everything about it you are so talented. Me and my family are planing to go to Iceland and would like to know what’s the best time for northern lights and also what winter clothes would you regiment I’m from florida so is ethereal summer here🤪
as an icelandic person this is a very accurate video but i forgot if you said this or not i am to lazy to check but the best time to go to iceland if you want crouds go at summer if you want minimal crouds visit in the winter.
You have the funniest accent, like an eccentric Brit living in Iceland! Love the video too.
I walked the streets of Keflavik in January at 7am dressed in just a dress shirt and vest. I was outside for 2 hours, so it's not that bad.
Will be there in september on a cruise liner for about three days...still having difficulty with regards clothing. cause not all say the same thing. But I think this video is helpful thank you
I'm considering a trip to Iceland in the October through December window. Thanks for the great content. Your accent is lovely, but I can't quite place it. At the risk of embarrassing myself, I'm thinking Eastern European, but not too far East - Hungary? Whatever your mother tongue is, the combination with British English is charming.
I´m Icelandic and this video is so accurate that it sounds as a well ment tourist advice from the authorities of Iceland. This is Iceland.
I was also VERY impressed and surprised.
So Interesting !!! I Subscribed 🙏✌️❤️.
Hi Anna. I'm heading to Iceland on Feb 27th from 🇮🇪 and found you here while watching other videos. I'm really looking forward hiking the active vulcano and snorkelling in Silfra. Unfortunately scuba diving prices were a bit $alty. I have tours booked this time, but I'd love to explore the country driving one day. How's to rent a car in Iceland? Love your tips! Cheers from 🇧🇷🤗
How was it?
Why did you go to Iceland in Feb ??
Thank you for talking me out of ever going Iceland
I love your accent, I can listen to you all day 😁
Fantastic information!! The biggest thing I'm concerned with, is how expensive I've heard things are, there. I just subscribed and will return to your videos, to take notes on things to see and do. By the way, do you know anything about FlyPlay Airlines? It is headquartered in Iceland and has inexpensive flights from several major US airports. The flights are around $500, or less.
Great resource, thanks!
Sooo.... I will be traveling there like... today. Flight leaves at 16.45 (Dutch time) and we arrive at 19.05 local time. Most things I already knew, but some things are definitely useful. Thanks, Anna!
How was the trip?
@@Twilight.Knight Soooooo awesome!
I am going to Iceland next week for my birthday!
Must be best spot for wind farm but that would use the limited land mass so I prefer wave or tidal electric power generation.
We are going to Iceland in September 18th to the 24. I can't wait. Is that a good time to go. I want to see the Northern lights that's on my bucket list. Thank you were very informative.
Mjög vel gert þetta myndband, þrátt fyrir örfáu klippurnar frá Noregi. Sem leiðsögumaður er ég er nokkuð ánægður. 😊
Que felicidad poder viajar y conocer esos lugares
Nice
How funny, in the state of Utah you also have to buy hard alcohol from state run stores and also no buying alcohol on Sunday, the Sabbath! Stores have long dark film or paper to cover the doors which contain the alcohol.
Secret Lagoon was so awesome, but now it's not going to be as much of a secret 😅
Great vid! 🙌
🤩🤩🤩 was it!! I’ll definitely try it next time 🙂
Thank you very much indeed 🤗
Have a great week ahead, Scott! ☺️
Im From sunny south africa. Wow i would not survive 😊thank you for sharing ❤
in case your watching this and wondering if you should go to iceland (a large majority of these clips are from what looks like norway if you see a massive fjord its not iceland we have deep and long fjords but non are tall, if compared to norway, and if id have to guess by the looks of it its like 8 clips of something else, 1 short clip from iceland and repeat im shocked by the lack of footage from iceland in a video about it even the intro is somewhere else entirely by the looks of it)
Here are a few more.
Most land in Iceland is privately owned (Like the overwhelming majority of it and i mean beaches, mountains, lakes and lavafields anything you can see really) and while you have the right to walk anywhere you want (Unless its agricultural fields) you can't drive on private land without permission from landowners. If you have to drive through closed gates or through someone's parking lot changes are it's private. Now most landowners are pretty chill and don't mind you exploring, but they want you to ask permission first, its usually a pretty big deal for farmers to be respected enough to be asked permission. Just because the road is marked on a map doesnt mean its public.
Alot of buisneses related to tourism in Iceland are run by small time farmers. People who live on their land and run their buisnes out from their homes. But just because they run them from their home, doesnt mean they want you in their house. So when you find yourself on a farm, be it for an activity or just housing. Don't mindlessly walk into someones home, look around, ask yourself does this look like it could be someone's home and if it does dont enter. Rather try to see if you find someone around and if you can't find them either knock on the front door or call their phone number. Most people living in rural Iceland typically don't lock their frontdoors and so its incredible easy (And really common) for you to accidentally up in someone's living room.
It is not uncommon for farm animals to be pushed on Icelandic highways in rural areas. Be it horses, sheep or cattle. Farmers actually have legal priority on highways over cars. It can be incredibly annoying when it happens to you, but if it does please remain calm, slow down your car, be patient and just wait. Either let the herd pass you or wait until the farmer tries to give you an opening which they will usually do as soon as they have the opportunity too. Don't try and push through the herd, not only is it incredibly dangerous and can scatter the herd for the farmer (which can take hours to bring back) but it is also illegal. Try to be respectful and understanding.
Lastly, try to udnerstand that the high prices in Iceland are not caused by the greed of the avrage person. There are many reasons for them, inclusing being an isolated island where monopolies are easy, almost everything needed to be inported, high taxes, high interests rates, a weak currency etc etc, the list goes on. Just remember that even though the country is expensive for you to visit, it is even more expensive for those who live in it and for people to be able to make a living they have to price their services high. So don't take your frustrations on them.
Looks like the coats are a must have 24/7
Watching here soo nice sharing
Bring really good rain gear…Iceland wiped out gear that I used in New England for decades. Icewear is an excellent brand.
I lived in Ísafjörður for a year, due to the mountains you go a couple months without seeing the sun, it gets light out and quickly back to dark. In the winter they get lots of snow unlike Southern Ísland. About the drunk driving, there was taxis everywhere. I would not want to try driving dunk the roads are more dangerous. Where I lived the roads from town to town are adjacent to the sea. No guardrails! One night 3 students that I was going to school with were killed driving home after a party when the driver lots control of the car and it went in to the sea.
Wonderful people I still keep in touch with my hosting families, I hope to go back some day.
You had me when you said "purchizing" bottled water!!!
I love your driving rules 👍🏼
US used to be good with keeping rules, not anymore 😢
Spot on everything thank you Anna. Im westfjord Icelanding and i just want to shout out about our little ring around westfjords, also plus you will get some off road feeling part of the way :). But please if you are driving here in winter, do not try to drive some of the mountain paths along the way as some of them are open only in the summer months, they can be deadly if the weather is bad. Also please use the toilets and not people's backyard for a dump, yes that did happen and it was in the news :)
I remember trying an Icelandic beer called " Brio " Definitely different !
Going to iceland on Wednesday next week so definitely blue lagoon and northern lights are on the list...
me, being a person living in iceland for most of my life, yes, yes this is super relatable,
The first word ends it for me and that is Ice . I go where the weather suites my clothes and that is no place cold .
I'm looking to go scuba diving in The "Silfra Fissure" in August 2023!!!
Regarding water, the cold fresh water is super clean and has nontaste or smells.
But the hot water sometimes smells a lot because of the way it's heated, it's still clean though.
But I stick to cold water for drinking personally.
Iceland sounds like an ideal place to live, for me personally. It's not for everyone, though. Unfortunately, the last time I visited was back in 1979.
WOW -I totally ❤ this video & the amazing girl narrating.
I live in very hot Texas,USA & have developed a dream to move to Iceland.
I'm a professional concert level pianist.
Ideally, giving a concert in the beautiful Harpa hall would be thrilling!
I also, want to try & figure out how to secure a job there ( piano teacher/ professor) & wondered if you have any advice as to where this may be found.
I'm going the the library this weekend to load up on books about beautiful Iceland.
Thanks for such an informative video..❤
Sounds like better weather overall than here in Fairbanks Alaska...except for the wind
16. Don’t eat your burger with your hands. Use fork and knife 🤣 (it’s weird but if you pick up your burger with your hands, people will look at you like you’re a zoo animal)
17. Don’t let go of your car door when you open it. Gusts come out of nowhere and can bend your door until it hits the side of the car! You will have to pay for repair.
18. Don’t make small talk with bartenders or other service workers. They are busy and SO tired of tourists. They’re not impressed that you’re American and chose to visit Iceland.
19. Don’t ask anyone where Björk lives. They are so tired of foreigners talking about Björk or Sigur Rós.
20. Don’t publicly categorize them as Scandinavian. There are cultural, historical, and linguistic connections but they don’t even want to THINK about ever having been a Danish colony.
Thanks for video
I moved to Iceland in 1999, lived there for 5 years ... I remember when the first 10/11 announced they were going to stay open 24 hours a day and the people went crazy > and not in a good way .... everything except bars closed by 11 (most things before that) Mostly bars closed when there were not enough people in them to make it worth it ... thus open till 3am-6am sometimes ... I had a little business that sold Pizzur and sometimes burritos downtown out of a little building ... dark, cold, windy and drunk the young people would stand around in Lækitorg Plaza eating, laughing, freezing and at times arguing ... was always funny how young people would argue in Icelandic of course > but when it came to saying curse words > they were said in English ... as there kind are no words in Icelandic to convert certain things to.
I love it 💓
The main thing Not to Do is eat the famous hot dog. Go to the Sea Baron instead. If you have a way to get there, Dynjandi is the great uncrowded waterfall. If you have a big budget go to the Silica hotel, with its private lagoon, instead of the Blue. The Blue Lagoon used to be free; it was the outflow pond of a power plant. Locals build a wood changing house.
I'm in iceland now, this video is pretty accurate, we've been told that iceland is expensive so we brought bunch of food abd snacks with us !! Gosh what a waste, for us Canadians food is cheaper here I'm iceland ! You just have to know where to shop ! You can find everything and a lot more I'm grocery stores like bonus, netto and kronan , I even bought clothes here at the mall cause it was cheaper ! Oh yea, and DONT BUT ICELANDIC SWEATER ! there is no such a thing as hand made sweater , they are mostly made in China and chew your skin ! Don't fall into tourist traps , iceland is fun and pretty affordable
Hi🇮🇳🇮🇳
i live in iceland and im going to do all of this
Hang on, some of your pictures are not from Iceland, we have all our towns and citys electrical systems underground.
She’s annoying
Agreed,,,, tap water in Iceland is better than a bottled water we find ussually in supermarket. Best regards,,!
Absolutely! It is really tasty! I feel like bottles water was created only for the tourists 😉
@@AnnaGoldmanTravel ,,, yup I was thinking the same of it… Love Iceland soooooo much!
At first moment I want to switch off, couldn't stand your voice manner, but I'm happy to stay to the end. Very good advices, thanks for video.
Cute video..nice editing
Anna, I think your series on what "not to do" teaches more about a culture than anything I've seen. Is it true that Iceland is supposed to have the most beautiful women?
U're so funny, love your energy and accent. At some point u sound like British but from your hat with Norway flag guess u're from there? Stay positive and spread good vibes 😄
Are these the places you said to go?
Thingveller
The Blue Diamond
Nautholsvik Beach
Grotta Lighthouse to see the Northern Lights
Seltjarnarnes
Fjallsarlon
I found the end to be confusing, as you mention where not to go and where to go soo fast that I couldn't tell what was what. Clarification would be super helpful. Thank you!
Summer 10 C good Lord, but it's better than extreme heat now in Serbia, however the darkness in Iceland is unbearable
Very educative
It's not much snow on the south side of Iceland. If you want snow visit the north.
