  • "O soave fanciulla" (Oh lovely girl) is a romantic duet from the first act of Giacomo Puccini's 1896 opera La bohème. It is sung as the closing number in act 1 by Rodolfo (tenor) and Mimì (soprano).
    This was recorded 24. March 1907.

    Melba sounds rather more vibrant and 'live' on this video than in many recordings/videos I've listened to. I'd like to think that perhaps this is how she, in person, sounded in the space of an opera house. Thank you very, very much, Tom Frøkjær!

      Vergleichen Sie bitte ab 1:47 mit/ohne Equalizer-Variation⚘.....wie ein etwas verschwommenes Foto insgesamt klarer/schärfer wird. Auch an Instrumenten oder Textverständnis ('Surrogatparameter') ist der präsente differenziertere Klang erkennbar. Warum es sich so verhält, kann man am *Graph* der Funktion, die aus dieser *genauen* ! Regler-Position ( kein preset ) resultiert und eine Crescendo-Verstärkung der hohen Frequenzen zeigt, diskutieren: Er erscheint im Display. Wiesehr gute Lautsprecher den Klang verbessern können, ist bekannt. Dass ein EQ das Ergebnis günstig beeinflussen kann, ist viel weniger geläufig.

    This is the first of two Recordings Enrico Caruso Made of this famous duet and has Been Reissued on a His Master's Voice LP Fifty years of Great Operatic Singing Volume 1 Record Number CSLP-500 and the Original Single Sided 78rpm Record was issued on the Green label and Dame Melba died on Monday February 23rd 1931 and she was Born Helen Porter and tuck the name From Melbourne Australia

    When I hear them singing La Bohème, I can't help remembering the story with the hot dog :) They were fantastic beyond any doubt.

      Yes, the che gelida manina sausage! Caruso was maybe a "peasant" - but what a peasant ! Both legends. Hope you and your family are safe.

      @@tomfroekjaer Yes, it was a sausage indeed! He used to get in Melba's nerves, especially at the beginning of their cooperation, however, she was very fond of this peasant.
      For the time being we are well, but nobody knows what that next day brings.

      @@aetion Yes, the Covid-19 is unfortunately spreading again with more restrictions being imposed. We do not worry too much as we live in a small village 60 km south of Copenhagen. We were actually on a holiday on Crete last month. 10 nice days with great weather and a lot to see.
