- It's January, and in Southern Missouri, the weather changes almost daily. It can be challenging to care for our farm and livestock day in and day out in cold/wet/snowy winter conditions, in addition to working off-farm jobs.
In this twelve month series you'll get a front row seat to our raw and real homestead life. You'll see just what it takes to keep our farm running while working our full time jobs.
Welcome to One Year on Our Farm!
After 20 years of successful careers in the Los Angeles area we moved to rural Missouri and are taking steps to become more self-sustaining on our homestead. I break down all the farmy things into small manageable steps so you can start homesteading wherever you are.
We homestead on 2.5 acres in the Missouri Ozarks, and our garden hardiness zone is 6B.
Our weekly videos break down farming and gardening into small manageable steps so you can make the transition towards self sufficiency and food sustainability without being overwhelmed!
I garden in the Missouri Ozarks and am in hardiness zone 6B.

I love that your mom lives so close. I'm glad you popped up.Thank you.
We moved here in 2014 to help my mom care for my dad, who passed in 2017. I’m so glad to be close to her now!
@@LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm I'm pretty sure my mom and dad used to own that property and lived in the house where your mom lives. My dad might have put up those outbuildings. I googled their old address and that led me to your CZcams channel.
Thank you for spaying the cat❤️ I love her photo bombing.
She totally did photobomb every time I was down there. hahaha
Enjoyed this video Lorella! Keep up the good life!
Thanks Allison!
Just discovered your channel- very inspirational! You guys have a beautiful place. I have my fingers crossed that I'll have enough money in 2 years to retire to Southern Missouri or Northern Arkansas so I can have a garden and critters. 7 degrees here in Boulder today- definitely ready for spring.
Brrrr. Yes it’s definitely a milder climate here, with a longer growing season, too!
Bed of luck in your future endeavors.
Cute kitty. Lots of deer. Y'all have a beautiful place. I love foggy sunrises and fresh snow. I'm not real good with my time mgmt
I'm getting better with time management, but I'm also getting tired more easily as I get older, so I have to build in more frequent breaks than I used to.
@@LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm yup, breaks and slow starts...lol, sometimes really slow starts.
100%
Great video! Your chores, on top of working outside the homestead makes me tired!
You and me both! 😂 But the reward is so worth the effort. ☺️
Great Video !
Thank you!!! Glad you enjoyed it.
"Missouri: If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes." Isn't that the truth. Yesterday was in the 50s, today is supposed to be 25 all day.
Accurate. LOL
So true it changes all the time
Awesome! Thanks for the video, really gives a good perspective.
Glad you liked it!
WELCOME to Missouri neighbor!!! Looking like we are in similar areas! New sub, Kristy in West Plains 😃🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Hi! I’m near Ava. Nice to meet you Kristy.
Gosh I can't wait until the weather warms up enough to get outside. I have a Urban gardener/ homestead. I've been making all kinds of plans for this year and wanting to try at least 2 items this year. BTY I,m in P.B. southeast MO.
Love your channel.
Hi Annette! Yes, I'm am both looking forward to spring and feeling not at all ready. LOL This is something I struggle with every single year. What two new things are you adding to your urban homestead this year?
30 F here and feels like a heat wave. (Last week we were at least minus 20. ) Just got in from outside. There's not much I can do but just look over things and think about Spring. We have a pretty deep snow cover to wade through. Happy to see you had a video even if I'm a week late.
Hey Suzie! I am hoping to get a video out twice a month this year (every other 2nd and 4th saturdays if all goes as planned.) Sheesh minus 20 is awful. Where are you located? If you've told me before, I'm sorry I've forgotten.
@@LorellaPlanBeeOrchardandFarm I'm in Northern Iowa. When I watch you, I know I'm going to be a just a little behind, maybe a month from what you're doing.
Beautiful property! 😊❤
We agree!
A suggestion to avoid walking out the hoses! Use an air compressor to simply 'blow' the water out of the hose from one end. It's worked well for me in the past. As for the 4 Seasons, though excited @ moving, I'm not looking forward to that 'cold' [moving to my 5 acres in Missouri].
I love that idea, I wonder how far it would work. Some of our hoses are linked to more than one hundred feet.
Gita small farm here found your channel really enjoyed it so subscribed
Awesome! Thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos. ☺️
New sub! Missourian here 😊❤
Welcome!! Thanks for the sub. Looking forward to getting to know you better as we go along.
Lorella! Beautiful shots, great background music. I love the trash can idea for hay. I didn't know you had calves!!! So exciting!
Thank you so much! Yeah, two new bottle babies they are so cute.
Hi Loretta! We just moved to MO from AZ so fellow Missourian here! Love all the animals you all have! 😊❤ we would love cows but haven’t done that yet! Right now just goats and chickens. Hope you’re having a blessed weekend! 😊❤
Thank you, and welcome to Missouri!!
❤️
Nice place. Raising the calves to eat?
Thanks! Yes these two will be headed to freezer camp. We have two cows that are used for breeding purposes, and an older heifer that is being raised to breed as well.
