    I’m used to scheduling hoof care for horses...I never thought of the importance of hoof care for cows but I imagine standing in a shed or stall conditions is a lot different than open farm grounds like I’m used to! Great video! Keep on keeping on and God Bless ❤️!

    When I'm trimmin my 60 heads i need 1,5 days, he does up to 100 a day what is absolutely impressive.

    That’s interesting that cows only need to be done every 6 months but probably a lot of that is from walking on cement. I have to have my horses trimmed every 6 - 8 weeks. You know what you’re doing however. There’s NO doubt about that ! LOVE your hat ! “I FARM, YOU EAT !” GREAT ! Thanks so much for all you do even though I doubt here in north Alabama USA, I’ve not had a sip of any of your milk but it takes folks like you to keep the world going !

      That’s an absolutely ridiculous thing to say. I grew up around farmers and ranchers...there was only one person that I’ve ever know to be a jerk to his animals...but he was a jerk to everyone so no surprise there. But to make a statement like this dairy farmer is the exception to caring about his animals, is beyond insulting to the thousands of farmers who give their animals the best of care. Remember, you’re only seeing a small fraction of the many, many people who are involved in this profession.

    And yeah, leaving the equipment indoors is Very great because blowing lines or having frozen parts is such a huge bummer..

    Hoof Trimming on a Canadian Dairy
    Glad we didnt see anyone get hurt as these cattle are in the range of 1500 lbs and you can't pussy foot around, as they could crush or seriously injure an operator/helper. Hence the need for strong and safe equipment operated by skillful workers. When we trimmed hoofs back in the 60'-70's that was downright dangerous, as ropes/chains to hold up the hoof and then huge snippers and curved hand drawn knives were used.

    • @timothymbonham4453
      @timothymbonham4453 Před 3 lety +3

      They have 2 advantages:
      1) their cows are on flat, level concrete -- no rocky, stony, uneven pasture land -- so the hoof wear tends to be more even.
      2) their cows are in the milking parlor twice a day, with their hooves almost at eye level. So they are likely to notice a hoof problem then. Plus walking to and from the parlor, any lameness would be quickly noticed by them, and they could call the hoof specialist in for a problem.

    • @sanderpelgrom8521
      @sanderpelgrom8521 Před 3 lety +1

      I can not speak for the cow but in my experience the cow is affected for 5 minutes and then she will resume to normal after taking the calf, altough a lot of cows don't seem affected at all. I don't think hoof trimmers work outside in snow storms. I think the nearest big city is Saskatoon.

    • @Lovesmuch4
      @Lovesmuch4 Před 3 lety

      The cow would have had a sore like digital dermatitis (hairy heel wart). Because the cow is outside duct tape is used instead or vet wrap so it falls off. Vet wrap can cut into the foot if it isn't taken off or doesn't fall off.

    The hookup in the UK, has a neat set up that doesn't flip the cows like that, it bends the cows legs at the knees.
