    07:58 - This is so true! My dad fell off a log and landed on his check with his arms infront of him, but the gopro sticking out bruised his ribs, good thing it wasn't too serious.
    Then a week later crashed with a full face helmet with a chin mounted GoPro and that hurt a lot more when the GoPro hit his chest. As you've said there's risk whenever we strap a camera, probably why EWS or DH racers are only allowed to have a gopro at the top of their helmets where it could easily break away.

  • @MarkusFinholt
    @MarkusFinholt Před rokem +14

    For those camera nerds out there. The Hero 11 has the same sensor size as the hero 7, but with more pixels. The hero 11 has a 27MP sensor, while the hero 7 has 12MP. So the density of more pixels means that they have to be smaller in order to fit into the same sensor size! Smaller pixel size means less light into the sensor, which means the camera has to compensate with lowering the shutter speed. Lower shutter means worse image stabilization. This is why the hero 7 is probably the best one of all the gopros for low light situations. But hyperview is nice though. For Jeff: if you download gopro Labs, you can set the minimum shutter speed to 1/240th seconds. It's worth a try if you use gopros a lot.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  Před rokem +2

      Thanks for the info!!! Interesting I had never googled the sensors in these. I feel like a 1/50th shutter should be fine, iirc we used to just set all our GoPros to that bitd- all of us CZcamsrs at least.

    • @MarkusFinholt
      @MarkusFinholt Před rokem +1

      @@JeffKendallWeed 1/50 will be fine with a gimbal, but without a gimbal you need at least 1/100 on the Hero 7. On the other models I found that I needed at least 1/200 to make it work.

    • @AndreasRavnestad
      @AndreasRavnestad Před rokem

      @@JeffKendallWeed Markus is correct, the stabilization will work much better at 1/200 or less. The reason is that even though GoPro uses gyro-assisted stabilization, any motion blur captured in video will create an illusion of shaking no matter how well hypersmooth is working. You will see this effect starting to emerge at around 1/180 and just get worse and worse as you approach 1/50. At 1/240 or less you will basically get perfect stabilization and very smooth video (especially with 60fps), but at the expense of more ISO noise.

    One thing to consider with the chinmounts are that your neck is it's own kind of Gimbal. I noticed (in good lights conditions) that you can even dial down the stabilization and get a wider image. I still switch from chest to chin depending if I will be wearing the fullface or not.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  Před rokem +1

      That’s the whole point of my video- the wider FOV is more important than the higher stabilization. Especially in low light. I chest mount with the lowest form of stabilization now and it works OK!

      @@JeffKendallWeed Depends on the trail as well. If I know I'm going down a chunkaton I will use the max setting, but in flow trail I will definitely dial it down when I use the chest mount. I got recommended a program that is very neat it is called Gyroflow (it's free). It allows you to stabilize in post like the gopro does on the fly. The awesome thing is that you can specifically choose the amount of croping/stabilization you need or want.

      Agreed 100%- and I’m shifting to a 50/50 mix of gimbal H7 and straight up H11 for most rides now. Chin bar moto mount has been good for ADV especially, as a lot of the best footage is when something is happening and I’m not even looking at the bike in the first place!

      @@JeffKendallWeed I've tried the chest mount on the dual sport, and it can be ok, but clearly, for ADV riding a chin mount is the way to go. I've even put a smaller wind deflector on my 1190 to open up the view from the chin. Haven't taken much footage yet with the smaller screen, but so far it appears to work nicely.

    I think the 11 on the chin is best. It's the closest to what my eyes actually see while riding.
    One thing I don't love about your videos is how much handlebar is in my screen. Because it's like I'm staring at my stem. And that's poor technique!

    Turn off the stabilization and use ReelSteady...

    Shocking that there is still no HDR video on GoPro in 2022! Every smartphone has been able to do this for years

      True. I've been really happy with my recent iPhone, I've been posting more and more footage with it, the HDR works awesome. One more step to interpret the footage in premiere, but iPhone is SO MUCH more durable than my old RX100!

    How about Hero 11 on the gimbal so you get the higher res, and the other benefits of the newer hardware? 🤔😂😂

    I prefer watching videos filmed with a chest mount.

    Great video, thanks! Try the GoPro Labs. It's killer! You just show the bar code from your phone to the camera, and it changes all the settings. You can limit the shutter speed so the hypersmooth is not braking up. Here is my video with the GoPro10 with the max shutter angle in 45. Sorry about slow fatbiking :-) czcams.com/video/l7jc89hRgKw/video.html

    My eyes are bleeding from 24fps. I cant watch action vids with 24 fps.

    The best angle is from my own bike and no camera. Just go and ride. Put $350 into your bike not a camera. Besides someone gave me a Gopro as a gift and it died in 15min. Sent it too Gopro under warranty and was told that the main board was not good and not covered but I could trade it in for a new one. F Gopro and their customer service.
