Hey EZBOT, I’ve heard of but never tried to have a track constantly recording via a recording trig thus eliminating the need to press “yes” to arm a recording trig. Just a simple quick fade to the scene. Is there any reason you don’t use that method. I’ve just never trusted a constantly running recorder for some reason. I think it would wear down and break. I’m paranoid maybe.
@@dicky143 because it will erase your recording on every loop. Yes triggers the recording then it loops that recording, if you let it rearm itself over and over then it will always be in the middle of recording and when you fade over it will be silence.
Thanks. You are awesome. More words probably describe you better but I don’t have them right now, you very nice person.
The most high-quality Zoom call I've ever seen.
Never seen Andrew concentrate so hard.
Lol
Holy sh*t! This video is ESSENTIAL viewing for both beginners and seasoned octatrack masoquis..err users😅 As a long time OT user, THANK YOU both for this great resource 🤟🏻
Thank you! Happy to be of service!
is the patreon one uncensored/uncut version of this?
@@IgnacioChavez I don’t have the unedited version available, it’s 2 hours long of 4K footage. Sorry!
I thought i was ready for this video lol
Never thought I would see this collab, rad.
Despite owning several Elektron machines (DT, DN, ST and A4 MKI) every Octatrack video I see seems like rocket science to me. I am really intrigued by the OT but at the same time scares me as hell.
Yep, OT was made by a designer that left before any of those newer models came out. It is powerful, but imo the UX isn’t great. You would think they could offer the same functionality in a much more intuitive way but hey maybe not
The MK1 still had a printed manual... no idea about the MK2, but I got no manual with the anniversary edition. But you can get it in PDF form from the elektron website - it's one of the manuals which I found really, really helpful. They even have a hands on section where they set different targets and show how to achieve them. It's a bit dry to read, but it's really worth it. Gives a much more profound understanding of the device and it's actually what took that scare away from me after the OT sat in my shelves for two years... no idea why I didn't get the idea to RTFM earlier hehe.
I can understand you :D
Until I‘ve bought the OT I had the Same feeling like you.
But now I‘m playing with this machine and Hour After Hour it‘s more fun! 😊😍
that’s why we RTFM
@@Blarm - the UX is fine once you get used to it and learn it. Takes a bit of time but it is very powerful so the effort is generally worth it.
As an Octatrack owner this video makes absolute sense and easy to follow. I can use it as a quick reference for things I haven’t tried yet such as Overdub looper and reverse echo freeze. Thanks EZbot 👍
Dope!
Great video.. you are literally most valuable source of detailed information about Octatrack on entire CZcams. VERY appreciated !
He's right EZBOT. You are the at the best Octatrack instructor on CZcams. Thanks.
Thank you so much!
The Best Octatrack video that has come out for a while,,,, thanks...
It's cool that you go over things you have in your previous vids in a new format - always useful to review things about the Octatrack. The device is complicated and very often I forget handy tips from before. Cheers!
Some very useful tips here again! Especially the one for creating a scene: locking the parameters to the scene, then reset it and switch back to the scene! That will make my life much EZier ;)
EZier!
@@EZBOT_ ;)
This was a cool format. I found it easier to pay attention for some reason.
Thank you so much! I always come back to this video when I'm tempted to buy an Octatrack!
Haha 😂
Ok. Mission accomplished. I surrender. I'm ready to sell my Octatrack.
How much you selling it for? 😅
Good time to sell since the new one is coming soon
@@The_Invisible_Man 🤔 how do you know that
@@The_Invisible_Man okay
@@The_Invisible_Man mk3 with Overbridge and new fx….
Amazing!
Amazing. I know my way around the octatrack pretty well but there were a few lingering questions and difficulties I've had and this video addressed them all. Accessing the audio editor without a flex track is a godsend, can't believe I didn't figure that one out sooner.
It's pretty slick for sure.
I'm a pretty smart engineer and I still find this utterly perplexing. WTF is going on
Exactly
Octatrack - can be opaque
Evidence that being an engineer has nothing to do with being intelligent. My grandfather is an octatrack expert and he never went to school.
@@ZenMountain are you implying op isn’t smart because he’s not an octatrack expert after watching one CZcams video?
@@ZenMountain your grandfather is a dumbass, ive met him
This is amazing
Boom, the shortcut on rec3 just made my day
THIS has become the most concise OT sesh I’ve ever seen on the innernet.
Ezbot - OT G.O.A.T 🔥👍🔥❤️
Damn so good 👏🏽
Ahhhh yea!!!! Nice Video Matt!!! Looking forward to catching up with you! I'll be back to the west coast in June!
Very cool!
Something is telling me the new Octatrack is comming. So many new videos regarding Mk2 it looks like inventory cleaning:)
The guy who designed it left the company so I doubt it. But I’d love to see a spruced up digitakt with more memory, disk space, stereo sampling!
@@Tapepusher people come and go. It is not like there is only one capable engineer on the planet. I have gut feeling that many interesting thins are coming this winter:)
Really fun collab. I definitely learned a few things.
My boiiii.
Masterclass right here! :D
I like to think my comment on AH’s insta a couple weeks ago was the catalyst for this meeting of minds
Most invaluable moment @12:55. Transcendent
I loved the scene creation tipp! 😏
This is super informative. The Octatrack is such a beast, I’m not even quite sure how to exactly use mine. How you’re integrating other devices is really cool and that’s something I’m definitely looking forward to doing with mine! :-)
Awesome!
Bravo Maestro! Bravo!
Matthew! Work with Elektron on the next Octatrack!!
I wish!
Duuuude. Compressed knowledge. Thx! Really hoping to master OT soon (as a long term owner)
There are still rocks unturned for myself.
Great
Best crossover in the synthtube era! ✨💕
Haha, thanks!
I’ve been extremely interested in the octatrack lately. When it first gabbed my attention I looked at as another machine with a slight learning curve. “If I can learn an sp I can learn an octatrack” and I’m happy to say that mindset has been slowly fading the more I watch octatrack vids it just makes me want it more. The steep learning curve I’ve realized it has is pulling me in more because behind that tall wall of a learning curve I see is an amazing music making experience.
It's worth the time investment!
Most issues with people learning the octatrack is they try to learn the whole machine at once (not gonna happen and doesn’t need to happen)
Find 1-2 things about the octa you want to use it for and JUST learn that. Then build from there
I bought an SP404mk2, hated it, sent it back, bought an OTmk2 lol
For some the SP is great, and it is great for certain uses/tasks, just not mine. The elektron sequencer is hard to beat, whereas the SP’s sequencer was just kinda tacked on later due to user demand, I find the final result to be kind of compromising to its original objective.
@@Tapepusher there is something about the elektron workflow i love. i used older mpc's (500-1000's) and liked those, i bought a mpc one and sold it two weeks later, just couldnt gel with it and it turns out i like having limitations with my hardware boxes, if i want unlimited options ill use ableton/push
@@Tapepusher damm I love my sp, but yes you absolutely right tr rec mode was Deff by popular demand, not the highlight of the show by any means. Elecktron got the step sequencer game on lock for sure the octatrack amazes me. What amazes me more is that a company put its customers first and made a truly timeless machine instead of dropping “new” ones every 2 years to gain more profit. Makes that 1400 actually worth it
Nice! Thanks to you I spent so many hours watching octatrack tutorials, and i am yet to touch an octatrack.
hahha, very nice
I don't think even the engineers at Elektron understood what they were creating when they made the Octatrack. More than the sum of it's parts doesn't come close. I've used one for years and made countless tracks with it, and this video still sounded like 60% gibberish!
Haha 😂
Pre or post level section is hilarious
These kinds of videos always make me realize how much I don't know about my octa.
Always more to learn!
I really enjoy watching people learn the Octatrack. I can relate. If you have an OT and you don't have EZBOT's template you are missing out on a lot of fun!
Thank you!
link to this?
that Easy Sampling technique is great! you're right, I think most people including me do it the long way lol. great tips as always
I only learned this a few weeks ago, it was like a lightbulb moment. The long way is useful for live recording.
Thank you!
Awesome video for Octatrack owners!
Not as awesome as you!

Super interesting! Some of the best Octa tips on youtube. I know it isn't how you use it, but would be cool to show us more stuff on YT or Patreon for using the Octa standalone, or as the main machine in your setup!
Can do!
@@EZBOT_ Awesome! Because usually, I don't have enough space to use T7 as a record/looper track. Tbh, I only started using T8 as a MASTER track since your tutorials and templates on the effects there! :) But yeah, T8 master is definitely worth it, at least to keep everything under control
Greta stuff! As ususal =)
thx for the video, good stuff!!
do you actually don´t use the OT at all for Midi Sequencing? Sequencing/Triggering any modules with it? Why not?
thx
I do, I have 2 Octatracks. The one in this video setup is setup as a performance mixer and my other one I use as sampler/drum machine.
Perfect timing! I just got an OTMKii
The other video with redmeansrecording really helped me too.
for overdub => quick rec is better : Rec3= track you use ... just click Rec1 or and Rec2 + REC3 that's it
AyyeeYOO!
Thanks for the video, nice summary of features :) Question: I've been performing with a guitar running through a Thru track, recently experimenting with having it on a Pick Up machine instead, however the sound only comes through when the track is selected. Input is turned up to 127 on the Rec Page. I'm only using one Pick Up (no room on my other tracks, and Track 8 is a Master. Is there something I'm missing here? Cheers!
Once something has been recorded into the Pick Up I can navigate to the other tracks and it will continue playing, just not if the Pick Up buffer is empty.
Octatrack talks ramping up for the new release.
That pre and post level section went over my head, but it seemed like a big moment of clarity for you two. Would you mind elaborating on that part?
The pickup machine captures audio from sources post AMP volume and not post TRACK level. It ignores the track level of sources it is recording
@@EZBOT_ this makes intuitive sense based on the digi boxes where track level is the performance volume essentially and only controls final track level to the master. On Digitakt for instance you can control sample level and amp env level to fine tune your mix while leaving track level at 100 for performing. Or same idea if you’re building an Ableton live set and leave all your faders at 0db so you can use them for performance instead of mixing.
An used octatrack goes around $1100 while the OP1 field is $2000 . I'm seriously considering looking more into it!
Not even close to the same thing.
As a non-Octatrack owner (but DT, DN and ST owner) this made absolutely no sense to me 😂 which scares me. I really want to buy an Octatrack, but the fact that someone as bright as Andrew Huang is still figuring this thing out doesn’t make it easier..
He figured it out real quick!
@@EZBOT_ I wouldn’t expect less from him, he is a tech wizard!
I would compare it to going after a really hot girl of your dream or leap of faith in yourself. Weather she is yours and your dream comes true or you do not make a move and miss out a lot in this life haha. I was also scared at first but then again - if one guy can do it, I think I can do it too! So I'm really enjoying working with the OT. Vids from EZBOT or True Cuckoo really help. Never read the manual - too complex :-)
hell ya, Octatrack is legit
Ezboy is king
Kyle! ❤
@@EZBOT_ hello my friend!
Eternal love to EZBOT
❤❤❤
Dude this is Jedi Mind trick level OT mastery. I thought I knew this machine well. No, no I do not.
What headphones do these masters at work use or recommend
I am using some pretty affordable headphones in this video: AKG K-240. Not sure what Andrew is using but it might be AiAiAi.
Quite many Octatrack videos lately all of a sudden on many channels.
On my channel that’s mostly what I make but there is a promotion for Octatracks right now that give you a discount.
0:43 “so meaning like the scenes”
EZBot: “Yes”
Me: “?” Scenes are scenes and parts are a way to switch between what machines are assigned to the tracks
Scenes are assignable macro's that allow you to adjust the parameters on the first page of parameters on all your tracks. Macros allow for wide adjustments to many parameters from one source.
How do you create new efx in the octatrack? Is it just mixing different ones together and use the fader to parameter sweep them at the same time?
That and automation from the LFO’s
@@EZBOT_ thanks a lot EZ, I finally purchased a new OT last week! Been amazing to join this community. Will see ya on patreon soon
lol soda sip break
Damn - Still can’t quite get the live looping sorted… is the Master File that EzBot sells all set up with regards to the looping?
I am assuming “The Trick” works on Mk1 Octas as well? 🤞
Sure does :)
Thanks for the reply… that was is relation to it working on MK1 I’m hoping!
@@TNNLZ Yep!
Awesome - Thanks for sharing your knowledge - Some serious skills! ❤
Howq do you setup the ALL scene?
Try the advanced fx video I made
Can you apply a fade to a sample?
Yes 🙌
I try the"DIS. STOP-STOP ARM" setting, and still don't understand what is it real do. I put a one shot on REC 1, "Play","Yes"(arm all) ,"STOP","STOP","Yes","Play",it will recoard again. What is my wrong?
MacGyver 😳
I feel like an idiot that I didn't realize you could clear fx so easily when making a scene.
. i feel like this would be alien language to any normal person
Oh shiiiiit
ezbot the octatrack og
❤ my boy
As someone who's own an OT for a few years...what?
Hi I’m andrew huang 🤪
This reaffirms my belief that the octatrack is probably not for me.
It’s not for everyone, that’s for sure 😅
@@EZBOT_ Ill always enjoy the videos though!
If I ever step away from the octatrack when I come back I’m mad confused. Today I have begun my journey back to being a octa masta
Mind blown 🤯 why is this machine like this?
Whaaat?
I did want one till I see this so confusing what you do with it is genius but as a starter your done I can see why there always up for sale
haha, glad you watched it!
@@EZBOT_ I definitely want to get one but I know I’ll need some lessons a few lessons if Andrew could not get he’s head round some of it were in trouble
I wonder what this would be like in english?
😂
octatrack is black magick
Arm, playback trig recording trig - i dont understand it
rec trig with a one shot condition becomes a recording trigger you can manually trigger when you need it at quantized recording values
Please tell them to update it. I’m sorry it looks very interesting but I’ll wait for whatever is to come.
Thats how i used to play live, when i was faking it... a live set does not need transitions. What are you transitioninng. Tracks youve already written. What your truly doing is a live remix. The main stream have enough trouble knowing whats really being done on stage. Youll also feel better about yourself ifnyour honest. As, you will always know. People will be fine with the reality. Just taking credit for playing live is going to come back in karma. P... its so funny which parts you put effort into.... kinda like both yall moustaches.
Thanks for sharing 😂 lol
Dream collab tbh
Same ❤
I wonder why Elektron is pumping lots of marketing dollars into the Octratrack now. New vids from Andrew Huang and Ricky Tinez, this can't be a coincidence. Yes, the Octatrack is amazing. And no, don't ever buy it. There are way better dawless options out there. You'll constantly be like "Oh I forgot to put a trigger / Oh it's looping but I can't find the looping button - must be hidden in the menus / Oh I just erased the buffer / Oh fuck me get the hell outta here". If they reworked this with a better UI it would be an instant hit.
Neither Andrew or I were paid to make this video or asked to do it either. As far as “oh I forgot..” yeah that will happen, eventually it won’t as you get used to it. I personally don’t like “DAWLESS” only as a workflow. I use a DAW all the time, I just like playing with the Octatrack- cause it’s fun as hell. My DAW isn’t fun as hell.
@@EZBOT_ I wasn't implying that either of you are being paid. Marketing deals can involve a lot more than transferring money from one account to another. Just curious what's going on at Elektron atm.
@@xpo3oxhitherto149 totally! I had to comment cause you said “don’t buy the Octatrack” and I don’t agree with that. :)

1:47 Exactly how funny did you think it was? Where you stopped over laughing maniacally like the Joker for hours about it? If so buddy we need to get you some help. Or at least get you away from the Octatrack for a bit and maybe out to a real comedy show.
Snake..? SNAAAAAAAAAKE!
Can’t get into that dude and can’t take anything he makes serious. He’s like the peewee Herman of music.
I thougt this would be fun to watch and a learning tool before I dived into buying one but the language in this whole video was gooblagosh. Flextrack and trigs. Scenes. Come on guys. Speak english. We say Sequences, Tracks, Songs. Y'all lost me from the start. I know different companies use their own language so I dont really blame y'all but for anyone watching this to learn..........
I have videos for people who want to learn Elektron/Octatrack that are made for newcomers. They explain in simple language in detail. This is a tips and tricks video aimed at Octatrack users. It was an actual call we had talking advanced ideas that we decided to share.
Octatrack is dead. No overbridge.... Dead
Octatrack is 100% one of their top selling products. Maybe it's dead to you :/
@@EZBOT_ and well dead, i bought 2nd hand and sold for the same 2 years later.
