Not a red flag, he just does not have the fast twitch muscle fibers to develop good striking. Watch his wrestling in his prime in college and the Olympics. He has very little fast twitch muscle fibers but he had was impeccable timing, strength, and the understanding of positioning among other things that made him so dangerous. He was Khabib before Khabib was himself. In his prime? Askren would’ve run through the UFC. He was just so far gone by the time he got into the UFC. Dana White had some bs beef that kept Askren out of of the UFC
