Might get MASSIVELY copystriked for olympic content, but check out this crazy comeback leg by Meinhardt!

I think Baldini might have been really nervous or was trying to rush and get this bout over with. In a couple of actions at the beginning, he takes the blade and immediately accelerates with a step lunge. Maybe he could've been patient and marched instead to get a better feel for the distance? In Gerek's 3rd touch, Baldini goes for a long attack a bit far away and Gerek has a comfortable distance to parry and riposte. Baldini feels relieved when he believes he got his first touch only for it to be overturned on video replay. The very next touch he tries to force a touch with infighting. 5:49 was probably Baldini's best chance of landing a touch with a patient approach to finishing his attack. Baldini tries to force an infighting touch again for Gerek's 7th touch. Gerek looked like he was ready to finish his attack or parry riposte at almost every point in this bout. His 1st, 6th, and 8th touch are highlights of that. But I feel if Baldini was more patient in this bout, the score may have been closer. I still think Gerek would've won this bout with the form he was on. Just my 2 cents.

Well said, definitely not Baldini's usual game he really walked into what Meinhardt was doing.
After the whole day and the semi final with France, maybe he was getting tired at that point. But as Muhammad Ali said, "Man, this is the wrong place to get tired"

@@OlympicFoil This just seems so left field for someone like Baldini who even at this point in his career then was still very strong. Sure, individually he wasn't achieving the top results he once had even back in 2012-2013 but still. This was definately not his day. I think once he lost a few of those touches is when he started to mentally bug out and started making some big errors (Especially that fleche he did to try and make a second intention counter reposte).

2016 Meinhart is better than Baldini. Baldini can hardly defeat Joppich as well when in his good time. Baldini's style cannot counter top level fencers anymore in 2016.

3:02 Attack stopped? Wasn't it too harsh to Baldini?
