CZ 457; COLLECTING VITAL DATA AND CORRECTING ACCURACY ISSUES WITH A PROPER CLEANING SCHEDULE

  • The CZ 457 had really dropped off in the accuracy department after shooting around 500-700 rounds and not cleaning. We cleaned the barrel and put it back out at 50 yards to check accuracy.
    We see what data collection we need to be looking at during this process and future plans to incorporate data collection into normal practice.
    We also take the CZ 457 out to 182 yards for some cool scopecam footage on the wolf target.

    Josh, welcome "back" to the bull. As an old time center fire ELR shooter, dope is a HUGE key as is the fashion and accuracy of the info kept. Might sound over-the-top, however by keeping a voice recorder with me, much added and later valuable facts came to play in on my success. All this said - with my own now aging service related issues, rim fire seems to be an avenue which will allow a few more good years of enjoyable "ELR" scaled to circumstances for me, and I (like maybe others) could use a little guidance on the acquisition of barrels etc for this venue.
    PS - be DARNED PROUD of that little lady you have - she's a gem!!

    Gonna quote Eric Cortina on cleaning your bore"
    "Clean my barrel after every range session because I can control how clean it is I can't control how dirty it gets"
    I clean as well as I can my precision 22lr rifles after every range session this includes a complete cleaning using both Boretec C4 carbon Koller 1st then Bortech rimfire blend flush barrel completely with Big Rd's Red then with Break Cleaner
    Then a second cleaning where I use a 3:1 ratio of Sharp Shoot--R Accelorator And Patch-out and let it soak in the bore for 4 hours
    Then patch out with dry patches
    If barrel is still dirty I saturate to bore with Accerator then plug the breach end fill with Wipe-Out Foaming bore cleaner plug the muzzle end let soak for 4 hours and never had to do more than that.

    New to the party... fouling in and practicing fundamentals. In my case, the SK Rifle Match shot very well. The SK Standard Plus shot about as well as CCI Standard Velocity. The SK Standard Plus is just as greasy/oily/waxy (whatever) as the Rifle Match. I was thinking to get some Standard Plus and use it to foul in the barrel and use it for fundamentals practice and reserve the Rifle Match for the lead up to and actual rifle matches (trying to save some money)? Nobody around here has Eley, so can't practice or shoot with that without investing real money on the chance it'll shoot better. Thoughts?

    What would be the best choice! I like both of them, but can buy only one!

    What shim are you using for the Lilja barrel with the eley match ammo ?

    • @PursuitofAccuracy
      @PursuitofAccuracy  Před 2 lety +1

      For my setup i have .003 shim installed.
      This will vary a few thou for every receiver.
      For eley i recommend starting at .041 and working lower until you get reliable extraction. If bolt close gets hard or crunchy on extraction back off .001 at a min

      Sounds like your rifle is either really light weight or on a very light fill bag.
      Get some weight on the rifle will help a lot

    Josh I notice you run your bipod feet forward a lot but also feet vertical. Why is that? In either position I notice your rifle doesn’t move much up and down with recoil. Mine seems to bounce a lot more. Thanks for any input you can provide.

    • @PursuitofAccuracy
      @PursuitofAccuracy  Před 2 lety +2

      Its really just based on how high or low i want the front of the rifle. I would guess my rifles are heavier and thats why they are not bouncing during recoil

    • @PursuitofAccuracy
      @PursuitofAccuracy  Před 2 lety

      The glass is all pretty good. Scopes are one thing where the price reflects the quality.
      I would set a budget and buy at the top of that budget for any brand you like for the warranty, reticle, and features

    Hey, I’m curious, do you shoot off your Tripod? I have the same model. I don’t have a bench to shoot from. I go out into the dessert, it takes a couple of minutes to set up and tear down. I’m recovering from a broken back. Can’t shoot prone. How does it compare to bench shooting?

    • @PursuitofAccuracy

    Just curious -
    When one shoots matches on a regular basis - the individual says I'm going to try this ammo & these other 2.
    Upon ordering - what is the quantity of each ???
    5000 or 1000 rounds of each ???
    I imagine one match is at least 50 rounds -

    • @PursuitofAccuracy
      @PursuitofAccuracy  Před rokem +1

      A match is typically 100-150 rounds.
      I test ammo 3 boxes per lot and then order a case of what works
