Hey guys! This is part 2 of 2 on how to create a flower wall hanging. In part 1 I showed you how to make yarn flowers and leaves: • DIY Macrame/Weaving Ya...
Today I’ll be showing you how to create a wall hanging design and how to add then to your design. If you’re enjoying my videos and would like to show your support I would really appreciate a like, comment and subscribe! Thanks so much. Before we get started I wanted to quickly mention that I ended up painting my dowel to match the rope (as you can see here). Feel free to leave your dowel as is or paint it to match. You’ll need 272 ft of 4mm vintage green rope for this project. I ended up adding a few rya knots with 3mm string to the bottom - this is optional but if you’d like to do the same you’ll need another 48 ft of 3mm vintage green string.
Cut 34 pieces of vintage green rope, each piece is 8 ft in length. Please note this pattern uses more cord in the middle and less cords on the sides so you’ll have a bit of extra cord on the sides of your wall hanging, about 1.5 ft, that you’ll need to trim at the end or you can cut the outer cords shorter before beginning your wall hanging. Fold each piece in half and attach to your dowel
We will use one knot the double half hitch knot (dhhk) to create this design. We will be tying a large diamond with detailing around the sides and bottom. Follow along as I take you through the process.
Tie a dhhk with the two middle cords about 1.5 inches down from the dowel to start your diamond. Continue tying dhhks to create the diamond as well as the detailing on the sides. Your diamond should be approx. 9.5 inches long once completed.
Use dhhks to tie the detailing underneath the diamond.
Repeat on the other side of your work.
Use the 21st cord from the left as your filler cord to tie your knots.
Now it is time to add the leaves and flowers in the middle of the diamond. Arrange them how you’d like. Use the yarn in the middle of the leaves and wrap it around the rope and tie an overhand knot to attach it. Repeat to attach the remaining leaves. Use a piece of thread to attach your flowers to your design. Thread it from front to back, wrap it around the rope, and then tie an overhand knot to secure it. Repeat to attach the remaining flowers.
Optional: Add string to the bottom of your wall hanging using rya knots by wrapping the string around two filler cords from front to back and then pulling both ends of the string through the middle of the two filler cords. If you need extra help to tie the rya knot please click here: • DIY Macrame Tutorial -...
Cut 32 pieces of 3mm vintage green string, each piece 18 inches long. I used 2 pieces of string per rya knot. I added 8 rya knots total (4 on each side) to the bottom rows of dhhks starting in the centre and working out. Then I added 8 rya knots to the rows above the bottom rows (4 on each side) starting on the outside and working in. Trim the ends as you see fit.
I cut my wall hanging in a V shape, with the middle of the cords measuring 25 inches down from the dowel and the outer cords measuring 18 inches down from the dowel. I untwisted the ends of the rope to create a bit of fringe.
    Thanks for watching!
