  • Florida drivers pay nearly double for car insurance than the rest of the country.
    “We actually had to switch auto insurance because it was getting close to $300,” said Jeffrey Larmore.
    Florida is one of the most expensive states in the country for car insurance.

      There is actually more of a problem in the home insurance industry than the car insurance industry. It seems like during June and July I was seeing a headline about a home insurer leaving the business in Florida, Louisiana or California every other day. It would actually be cheaper for me to insure my car in Los Angeles or San Francisco than it is in rural Northern Michigan and I carry $5 million in liability coverage, there is a base $1 million car insurance policy and a homeowner's policy with the same limits that are capped with an umbrella policy. If you are poor and only need minimum PL/PD in California it is only about $400 a year with a clean driving record (not that people making $15 an hour with a family to house and feed can afford even that). In Michigan it is quite a bit more even with insurance reform in full effect.

My Property taxes are probably many TIMES yours - with my 3 bedroom 1 bath ranch going to $12,000 a year. Natural gas is cheaper in Florida too. Yes - I pay less car insurance - but it does not even compensate for Snow Removal Costs. I live in MY state by choice. YOU live in yours by choice too. Do not expect others to feel sorry for high auto and home rates when we pay FAR more in Taxes alone. THere are states that have lower Auto rates and relatively low Property Taxes =- if you do not like your costs where you are - move.

    My wife drove to the store 1/2 a mile away yesterday and saw two accidents. One guy ran over a guy on a bicycle another guy made a left from the right hand lane & ran into an oncoming truck. People do drive crazy here in Florida, you have to always have your head on a swivel and use all mirrors.

    People need to remember the cost of living in conservative run. Florida is just as high as liberal California. Now I would still rather live in Florida because there’s less crime in freedom but either way you’re paying the same amount of money.

    • @Luisjusthere
      @Luisjusthere Před rokem +1

      Exactly, we’ll said. Florida has it flaws, it is expensive and yes there is a lot of rain, heat and flooding etc but every place is literally the same to a certain degree. What bugs me are the ones that trash Florida with all these problems when they themselves are pretty much suffering through a similar problem and those that aren’t are living in smaller town/cities say parts of NC for example but that’s only because everyone from all over migrated to florida a couple years ago.

    • @mikec7220
      @mikec7220 Před rokem +3

      Florida is so expensive now because demand is so high. People moving from high cost states pay whatever for a house just because it is cheaper than from where they came from, it has doubled the square foot price of houses in my town, which in turn will run up insurance replacement costs and property taxes.

    • @miketrav

      Yes, that’s the silliness that people keep telling you why they’re moving to Florida along with the warm weather of course. Meanwhile they’re shelling out enormous amounts for other things, and well we all know what the weather is going to do, it’s going to be the hurricane gift that keeps on giving in the future , exacerbating these problems even more. Someone moving there might want to think twice about it unless they have extremely deep pockets and have no problem with their house being damaged or even destroyed down the road.

      We have reformed car insurance in Michigan so you can pick the amount of coverage you want (before everyone had to carry unlimited medical and it couldn't legally be excess over your regular health insurance only, also a physician could charge whatever he wanted to insurance which is no longer the case). My car insurance dropped by half and I still maintain unlimited medical. Poor people are now paying less than a third of what they had to pay before insurance reform. This is all while maintaining no-fault for most claims.
