  • From my Twitch stream on Tuesday, August 31st, 2021. Due to requests from friends, I sat down and did a run down of the MK2.1 "Q Pack" Proton Pack Shell files from Quentin Machiels. Don't mind the music, if I ever do this again, I'll make sure it doesn't come through quite as loudly.
    Things discussed include my history with proton pack replicas, where to find the files and information, print time and any issues I had with each piece, and some discussion with people in my chat. The end is rather abrupt, as I had more stream to go through, but I wasn't too worried about adding it to the video.
    Here's where you can find information mentioned in the video:
    3D Printed Ghostbusters props Facebook Group, where you can find links to the files and a community of people who are happy to help.

    PART 1 & 2 - 3D Printed Q-Pack Proton Pack Assembly Instructions on Etsy, which are fairly inexpensive, and give you a lot of good tips on the variations you find in the files, and information on how to set up your parts for minimal supports, as well as info on infill, walls, and layer height.

    GBFans, where I've picked up many of the other parts I need for the pack.

      You don't know how happy this makes me. Like I might have said before, this was snipped from one of my "I'm still trying to figure out what's going on" Twitch streams, because I had some friends who wanted to see it but missed it. I'm glad my video, even with the too-loud music and non-existent production values, is helping people. Good luck, and have fun!

    Quentins pack files are hands Down the best out there..and he's always updating and adding to the files. Wish I can post a picture of my pack from his files but it's great. Thanks Q for all your amazing work 👏

    Printing parts for my first pack the mk4. Parts printing as we speak. I bought the plans on etsy. Great video.

      Yeah, since I got a larger printer, I've also picked up the mk4 files and the plans from Etsy. I don't know if I'm going to print another, or do a similar video with better audio quality, but they are great files and not too different from this almost three year old video.
      Good luck with your pack!

    I have a Creality Ender 3. Will that be big enough for the Synchronous Generator pieces? I mean, if I do them in sections as seen in the video, will the Ender 3 be big enough?

    • @TroxellBuilds
      @TroxellBuilds  Před rokem

      This was printed on a Creality CR-6 SE, which has the same build volume as the Ender 3. So yep! Even though the files have been updated a couple of times since I recorded this, they're still made with smaller printers in mind from what I can tell.
      Good luck!

      @@MAnuscript421 Completely understand. I started with the Ender 3, and then moved on to other ones. I currently have a pair of CR-6 SEs that are working for the moment, and I have a Neptune 3 Max waiting for me to get back to the workshop.

    Do you live your prints overnight? I read it’s not recommended to do so because safety

    • @TroxellBuilds
      @TroxellBuilds  Před 2 lety

      Especially when you have a print that can take upwards of two to three days, I've found it to be unavoidable. I have read the same, though. Knock on wood, cross my fingers, I've had MANY different types of failures and breakdowns, but anything that involves smoke hasn't been in there.
      Note: These are not the recommendations of a professional. These are the recommendations of someone who also eats raw cookie dough. Print at your own risk.

      Thanks for getting back to me. Yah that makes sense. I ran into some issues while printing the top part of the booster box. My gf isn’t okay with me leaving it on overnight so I paused the print and resumed the next day. The first resume lawyer stuck out the side a bit but overall it continued without any other issues. So I tried pausing it again for another night except this time the printer thought that the resume point was lower than it should have been and instead smacked into the side of my print and so I couldn’t continue it. :(

      Oof. Do not like. If it would help, I know I've seen extinguishing balls advertised for RVs that I've been tempted to buy and put next to my set-up, to help with possible fires. You might want to look at those, and see if it would help settle your girlfriend's mind.
      And it's not a problem getting back to you. Frak, it's not like I have a ton of content to keep an eye on. *LOL* Thanks for dropping by.

    Few questions. Total print time? What Nozzle Size was it printed in? Why PLA+ instead of PETG? Did you run 20% infill for most parts with the exception of 50% for those requiring more strength?

    • @TroxellBuilds
      @TroxellBuilds  Před 2 lety

      Hey there!
      First off, remember, this is just the main pack, like what HasLabs is making. I'm just now getting back into printing the particle thrower, so those numbers aren't in here.
      Total print time was 19 days, 6 hours, and 27 minutes. EDIT: I just took a look at the Particle Thrower times. I'm 3/4 finished printing, had to reprint a batch because I didn't use enough infill, and I might have printed pieces I don't need for the pop-out version, but I'm at 4 days, 3 hours, and 22 minutes.
      Nozzle size was the standard .4mm nozzle. For my CR-6, that's what I use. I'm looking at a .8 for one of my CR-10s.
      I printed in PLA+ because honestly? It's what I had on hand. I've been dealing with issues with my machines, so I haven't even tried dialing them in for PETG yet. YET.
      I actually think I went 15% on most of the parts. Go figure, that's one thing I DIDN'T take notes on, but I pretty much followed the recommendations in the instructions you can get for these files off of Etsy, link in the description. ;)
      I hope that helps! Anything else, just gimme a shout, and also make sure to check out the Facebook group I linked in the description. They're a really good resource as well, and are MUCH more knowledgeable than I on this!

      @TroxellBuilds  Před 2 lety +1

      These were printed on my Creality CR-6 SE. There are files in his set that are made specifically for printers that aren't as big as, say, any of the CR-10 models by Creality.
      Also remember, you get what you pay for. I have four inexpensive Creality machines, and they're down more than they're up, and I've never had them all running successfully at the same time.

    Question: what is the total size ??? ... is it 1: 1 size ??
    What is the length and width once assembled?

    • @TroxellBuilds
      @TroxellBuilds  Před 2 lety +2

      I didn't get measurements when I did the test fitting, and everything is currently packed in a tote, waiting for me to get the rest of the bits, motherboard, and print the wand.
      What I CAN tell you is if it's not full size, it's only a few millimeters off. When I put it together, it reminded me a lot of my old V71 fiberglass pack shell.
      To see a LOT of full builds, and people who are really familiar with the pack (including the creator of these files), I strongly recommend hitting the FB group I mentioned in the description.

      I mean, why pay $80 when I can spend 20+ days printing, $70 in filament, and $450 in greeblies and lights, just to turn around and spend another couple of weeks sanding, filling, gluing, and assembling? Oh, and a couple hundred more for the pack frame and motherboard?

      @@TroxellBuilds I stumbled upon your channel here not knowing you were on the Tube of You. I have been slowly working on GB stuff myself.... Jessica bought 2 Spirit packs, and I am starting to crack into them, resin-printing most of the parts for the wands (at 90% scale). I'll be refitting the Spirit trap as well, building a pedal. I have a HasLab Afterlife pack & Spengler wand coming for myself, whenever they get done, but I do still want to scratch-build one someday. I know we started talking about maybe you helping me out with that printing, but I don't want to weigh you down with all that if you still have printer issues. Hope we can chat soon.
