    Just adding to the comments shown by many below, you can actually pull the entire plug out since it's actually not connected to anything on that fuse panel, it's meant to be pulled out for this reset procedure, and it's MUCH easier to insert wires or paper clip on the exposed ends of the connector. But remember, SRS light is indicative of a potential problem somewhere in airbag or seatbelt systems, so if it keeps coming back on, there's something wrong in one of those systems - could be very minor issue, but unfortunately it could be significant, and cause the airbags or seatbelts not to operate properly in the event of a crash - so don't just keep resetting and/or ignoring.

    I followed the procedure, and it worked like a champion! You must replace the jumper one second after the SRS goes out. When it goes out, short the wires again, and the SRS did flash twice. Afterward finished, thanks!! BTW on the 2002 Oddessy, no need to crank the engine, just turn the ignition on.

    Just finished resetting the SRS light on my 2002 Odyssey. Thanks for the tips.
    After locating the harness, I found it easier to unplug it. That way you can pull it out so that it protrudes under the panel, and you can see the light turning on and off.
    If you use a folded paper clip and insert it in the specified holes, it works just as well and may be easier to find around the house than wire.
    Lastly, I tried this by starting the engine and it didn't work. Then, I repeated the operation by turning the ignition key to where all the lights come on but the engine does not turn, and it worked the first time.

    Excellent instructions. My SRS light remained illuminated on my 2001 Odyssey after the battery completely discharged. Your instructions allowed me to remedy the problem in about 5 minutes. Thanks!

    I had that SRS light on for about three years now. Went to the dealer and they want seven hundred dollars to fix the problem, they said it needs to change some sensors and modules. I let that light on until I saw this video. It works and I save money for that problem. Thank you!

    Perfecto! I had to reset my 2002 Ody after I rebuilt the trans. Your video was perfect. I used about 3’ of door bell wire so I could sit when I started the car for the reset. I think you could easily do it with a foot of this wire. THANK YOU!!!.

    This worked. I drained 2001 Honda Odyseey's battery by leaving the key in with the accessories on. I charged the battery and then found teh SRS light on all the time. I followed the exact procedure and fixed the problem. I used a pairs of wires just like suggested. Thanks a lot.

    Life saver. Just traded a laptop for a 2002 odyssey and it had the srs on took me about 5 seconds to locate the plug because your video and took about 2 mins or less to strip the wire and get the srs light gone Thanks for the good video.

    @bobcell9504 Před 5 lety

    Fantastic !!! Thanks much ! Worked like a charm. A diagnostic test at the Dealer/Garage costs $100 and I've never had a dash light on where they didn't try to charge me less than $500 to fix (whether it needed fixing or not), so I'm satisfied you saved me $600 or more ... Still driving my low-mileage 2002 in 2019 ... but the age of the vehicle means internet fixes like yours (here) are saving me a bundle ...

    • @bobcell9504
      @bobcell9504 Před 5 lety

      Forgot to mention that as near as I can figure, the light came on when I closed the door with the seat belt blocking the closure -- may have tugged it enough to set off the sensor ... don't think it had anything to do with an airbag ...

    this video was very helpful. On a '99 Odyssey, the wires are green instead of blue, but that was the only change. It took me two times to get it to work because I was using stranded wire instead of solid core, so it was tricky to get it to go into the connector and stay put, but on the second try, it worked - thank you!!

    Thanks so much. My SRS light came on after I removed and re-installed the airbag. In my case the connector in the steering wheel wasn't properly seated. I disconnected the battery and pushed in the connected but the SRS light would not go away until I completed this procedure.
    It took me longer to find solid wire strong enough to push into the connector than to do this procedure.

    The yellow reset plug can be pulled out, as it is only in a dead end holder socket. Press the side clip on the plug and pull out. Then you can place the wires more easily in the end of the plug.

    Got your followup message about the seatbelt being faulty. Thanks! Yes, they tie all that stuff together and if any of it is faulty you would get an SRS light presumeably. Short of having a scanner to read that info from the SRS system the way the dealer does, I don't know of any other way short of trial and error to trace down something like this. These days if you work on your cars you almost have to have scanner gear.

    I really appreciate the effort you made to research this problem and put together a video with clear instructions how to solve it. My driver's side seat belt had frayed so I removed the belt and retraction mechanism and sent it to Myairbags.com. They installed a new, high-quality belt for $75, plus return shipping. I installed it but wasn't expecting the SRS light to remain on. I called the local Honda dealer and just as mentioned below, they wanted $125 to "diagnose" cause of the warning light. I already knew the cause and thankfully you provided the solution. Thank you kind sir.

    Thanks for this explanation. How do I know whether or not I have a problem with the SRS though? Of course the manual tells me to take the vehicle to the dealer, how do I know they won't rip me off by just resetting but telling me they need to go into the assembly and check it out? Your explanation is very good but I'm not clever enough to do all that.

  • @jegm77

  • @iPhoneCzar
    @iPhoneCzar  Před 11 lety

    I'm not an expert on the systems but in general it means there is some kind of fault (or was one) in the Seat Restraint System. That could be anything from a loose connector on a seat to a faulty switch in the seatbelt retractor/seat occupant detection or some fault in the airbag system. The latter is dangerous because it has a solid fuel propellant to inflate the airbags that can cause injury if triggered inappropriately. May be time for a pro to take a look at it if reset won't stay reset.

    You might have a loose connector on one of the seats. You might have a serious issue with your SRS system. We are talking airbags here and there is the potential for injury if that system isn't working properly. In my case I KNEW why I had the light (I disconnected and removed the seat) but if you don't know what is wrong then you should probably get your system checked out by a pro.

    You left a very important step out of your video while connecting and disconnecting the wires... You never said what you did after the last disconnect... You say if you left it disconnected when starting the car up after the 2 flashes or if you connected the ars yellow plug back in before or after you started the car after the 2 flashes. You just skipped over that step which is crucial because I followed exactly what you said in video word for word and did not reconnect the wires or the yellow clip because you didn't mention it, and after 10 seconds my light stayed on. Please tell me exactly what you did at the end thank you.

      The Honda certified mechanic told me that the mechanism is bad in our 2002 Odyssey. This is the mechanism that is supposed to automatically retract my seat belt after I open the car door (which I knew already). According to them this means nothing for safety, but the SRS light will come back on again every now and then. I'm glad to find this video, because when we take the car to technical inspection, it avoids them asking/worrying about the light for no reason. I can order and install a new mechanism (they wanted something like $600), or just live with the light coming on every now and then.

    • @3DCGdesign
      @3DCGdesign Před 7 lety

      However, the SRS (supplemental restraint system) light can also be a fault with the system that controls the airbags. It could also be that the SRS module itself needs to be replaced.

    • @pdog2448
      @pdog2448 Před 7 lety

      cool thanks!

    • @joelinvirginia5198
      @joelinvirginia5198 Před 6 lety

      SRS "system" includes airbags and seat belts - so the SRS light is indicative of a potential fault somewhere in the system - ie, somewhere in the airbag and/or seatbelt systems. There are dozens of things that can trip individual DTC codes for airbag or seatbelts that would cause the SRS light to come on. If you have a really good OBDII scanner you can plug it into your OBDII port and check for yourself what sort of specific SRS faults are indicated. Unfortunately sometimes there are intermittent issues that are not consistent nor very critical that can cause a fault and trip the light - but there are also very important and critical issues that can cause a fault/light that could indicate an airbag or seatbelt could have a significant issue (and not protect you in a crash). So just ignoring the light or simply focusing on just "turning it off" is not necessarily a good thing to do. In most states, the light will fail safety inspection, because it's assumed to indicate an unsafe condition.
