Spirit Farer is 98% relaxing cozy management and 2% ugly tears. On balance, it was the best game I played last year, but it genuinely made me examine unresolved grief I was carrying around. It's also one of the prettiest games out there. Play it if you haven't. :)
Glad you brought that game up. I had been having a hard time finding a game to play to go to bed at night until Spiritfarer. Very relaxing.
I'd say more 50% sweet and cozy management and 50% tears and pain
Honestly spiritfarer wrecked me emotionally for a while. It's such a lovely and beautiful game but it hits emotions hard
coffee talk is my wholesome game! it’s literally just an indie game where you own a cafe that only opens at night and you meet charismatic characters and make coffee for them. it’s got a cute story and the fact i get to make different types of coffee (arguably my favourite thing in the world) is just so cute.

A short hike, DEFINITELY! So so so wholesome and such a nice, relaxing experience walking and flying around the island. As soon as I heard the music from the game playing at the start of the video I was like "oh yeah, this is gonna be a good list".

Definitely wanna add cosy grove and Littlewood, both of them are about £10 they’re so cute the characters in them have so much personality and life to them (especially in cosy grove I think). We love a cosy wholesome time
Cozy Grove is also very wholesome and well…cozy! You’re a spirit scout on a haunted island and you try to help out the spirits, who are bears. It’s a combo of Animal Crossing and Don’t Starve but less punishing? You don’t have to play it everyday. Interestingly enough, the game is designed to “respect your time”; meaning, you do some tasks but each sitting takes like 30-60 minutes and then there’s nothing else for you to do for the day. The game even signals to you check back “tomorrow” or the next time you play. The art style is also suuuuper cute and the music is very chill. Highly recommend!
Everyone needs to play a nice, wholesome game every once in a while…

Gris is maybe the one game missing from this list in terms of relaxed, gorgeous and wholesome eShop content.

Rune Factory 4 Special is definitely my comfort game! I really love the farming and rpg aspects, mixed with a social aspect of managing a town and possibly having romantic relationships. The characters are so wholesome, and I know the story isn't always, but it never fails to make me smile ✨❤️
Cozy grove and calico should definitely be on this list and maybe rune factory 4 because while there is fighting and taming monsters the lore is that your weapons are made of retornen which doesn't kill the monsters but returns them to the forest of beginnings where they were kidnapped from.
Some of my favorite games on this list. Just got Stardew Valley yesterday. Didn't make the list but Cozy Grove was good too, played every day for 120 days now and I'm almost done.
I’m like a week and a half into cosy grove and it’s so sweet and I love it so much. Defo good for my animal crossing burn out

Captain Toad "There's no pressure" - shows boss fight where if you don't run perfect you die... I do love that game though, have it on Wii U and 3DS.

Yoku is such a great game. I played it a few years back on Switch and I found it really hard to put down, I finished it in about 2 days and I stayed up until 7am on day 2 to see it through. Definitely worth a try for such a unique concept.
One of my favorite surprise games that is somewhat wholesome is Donut Country. Pretty chill experience, and it has got a good sense of humor to it.
I would definitely include Donut County on this list too, such an incredible game
One of the most cozy switch games I've played is actually Dragon quest builder 2. I enjoyed it from start to finish and I wish I was able to replay it again without knowing the story :)

also Donut County. Simple gameplay, and a story about a raccoon learning the error of his ways. Not a long game, but a very enjoyable time

Definitely can't argue these games aren't wholesome but I think New Pokemon Snap shouldve/could've also been included. Nothing more wholesome than taking cool pictures of Pokemon being Pokemon.
I just finished Alba yesterday, it was really cute and relaxing:) I'm adding Good Job on my wishlist, it looks a lot of fun.
Good Job is an excellent game. It is probably even better in co-op mode.
Two games I absolutely fell in love with that are extremely wholesome and beautiful but they look like grim-darks at first:
Far Lone Sails. An incredibly uplifting and enchanting experience where you play as a tiny person driving their giant "land ship" across desolate expanses to reach the coast. So much wonder and delight in just being tiny and diligent and thoughtful.
The Longing. Yeah. The 400 days game. Starts out very kinda spooky and daunting. By the end, you look to this game as a relaxing place to escape to. You don't want it to end. So much mystery and a valuable lesson in overcoming the darkness within... Everything is slow, but it's actually a very enjoyable slowness.

Spirit Farer is simply a fantastic game. Amazing characters, some of which are not all that wholesome but it adds to how real the game and the story feels. It deals with death and grief in a very respectful and real way, it is one of my favorite games on the Switch for sure.

Love playing wholesome games with my daughter. Only had 2 of these, already had 2 of them on my wishlist and added one more now thanks to this video. 🥰
But I would of also put games like Mara or cozy grove on this list over stuff like good job imo. Good list tho
Dragon Quest Builders 2 (might be pushing it slightly with this one, but I stand by it), Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, Yoshi's Crafted World and Part Time UFO are all good-to-great games I find to generally be quite wholesome - in addition to the games in the video, all of which are genuinely great choices for this category.
No love for Wandersong? That´s Wholesome, the game.
Spiritfarer tho. My GotY 2020. It´s such a unique, emotional, beautiful experience. Not a game I´de recommend to everybody. But the world is a better place for it existing.

I would highly recommend darkwood. It is very relaxing having a walk in those beautiful landscapes and getting to know all the fauna and friendly people around.

Honestly, I consider Spirit of the North to be a wholesome game in my eyes. It was absolutely wonderful from start to finish, and is a game that fills me with joy every time I even think about it, but then again my bias for foxes is probably doing most of the speaking 😅

As wholesome as it may be, it's just a complete bore of a game. Yoshi's Island would be more deserving to be on this list, since that's playable on Switch too.
I enjoyed Yoshi's Crafted World as well. I really digged the art style in that game

Cities: Skylines is a great city building sim where you can take things as slow as you like. Abzû is a beautiful and artful experience to add to the list and Old Man's Journey is a very heart warming and overall wholesome experience
Stardew Valley is only $10 right now. Very worth the money

I 110% request the addition of Wandersong to this list. I mean, you play as a bard, who solves problems and helps people by singing. You literally cannot be more wholesome than that.

Such a great list! I think that in addition to‘ wholesome’ there’s something to be said for mindful, meditative experiences in these as well. I’m playing Haven Park this weekend and it’s incredible. But your list reminded me that I need to pick up Alba’s Wildlife Adventure!

I personally like playing Hollow Knight when I want a (sometimes sad) smile on my face - it really does help with the occasional problems with the weight of the times.
That might just be because of all the memories I've got from the 3 times that I've tried to beat it though.
I love Hallow Knight… I just wish they had a pity mode for people like me who are very bad at game 💔
Good Job! is on sale again in the eShop right now at least in the US. Picked it up last time it went on sale which is rare because Nintendo is the publisher. Gets tough later especially if you try to achieve all the goals.

A suggestion for a future list? Sky children of light, it's by the same creators of journey.
I remember being chased by a goose at a park when I was young. Despite the emotional scars I still bought UGG. But wholesome is a bit of a stretch, what with the trauma done to the child in the second area...

Switch has really excelled with these type of wholesome games. Another I would say is embracelet. Beautiful game in every sense.

Doraemon Story of Seasons is an incredibly relaxing farming game that encourages you to go at your own pace. It has a free demo and I would highly recommend it!
Agreed! I've only played the DEMO so far, but as soon as I did and realized how freaking RELAXED I was, I bought it IMMEDIATLEY! >:D Can't wait to start the whole thine! (The watercolor art style is also GORGEOUS!)

I got spiritfarer coming in the mail I'm super stoked to play it. Gonna play it docked to see all of eye candy.
Spiritfarer, I learned a lot from the game, cried everytime sent away the spirit.
A short hike has got to be my favourite game I've gotten on the switch yet. I'm only a year deep but seriously a short hike is so incredible.
Now on the other hand I just picked up horizon park and honestly it's a bit of a let down. The overall exploration is fantastic but the main game mechanic of building campsites and interacting with npcs is pretty poor. First all the sites require the same buildings and npcs arrive almost to quickly. Second the campsites range in size from small to large and thus some camps look terrible and cramped. Building options are also extremely limited, like the food and entertainment are all tacky and intrusive. Radios blast mediocre music, fire works go off at night exessively, food trucks look out of place and no matter what every site requires three of every building option. How does a ferris wheel not out way a radio? Not to mention the annoying npcs asking the same questions and instantly complaining about lack of options.

Heave Ho is an excellent couch multiplayer game. You can play it solo or you could play it with your family that you’re stuck with while in quarantine. It’s a game about solving puzzles and trying to get from point a to point B. That my friend is a pretty wholesome game. Granted there are a few times where you can kind a mess with the other competitors/players but overall it’s still wholesome.
