    I used to be an avid modeller. I have an art business to deal with, so my time for model making therapy comes from watching you Lou. 😎
    P.S. I bought some of your NX-01 1/350 vinyl masks way back when that kit first came out. People still compliment me on the paint job today!! Like 15 yrs later!
    Edit:for spelling.

    I wanted to get this kit when it first came out but had built the 7,541 piece Lego version just prior and I was "Falconed Out" as it were and was so exhausted after that. I can't imagine tackling this beast. I'm not as patient with the tiny bits like I used to be.

    Very impressive detailing on these parts! I love that they included the small lunar module bit inside, keeping with that SPACE 1999 and other original film models tradition.

    Wow, you've started on the Perfect Grade Falcon!! Maybe this build will inspire me to start on mine. If you recall, I got one as a retirement gift back in November of 2017 and it's still in that big box. But, I look at the box every day. You've already provided some good tips like the sub assembly plan. Can't wait to see more Lou!!

    The grid/lattice work over the engines was a Special Edition addition. ANH originally had just the plain clear portion for the light to blow out on camera. The presence of the grid might be what's looking odd to you.
    Well spotted on the headlight lighting infrastructure!

    There is a model train supply house that has led lights of all sort well one of them is a welding led made to be out of sight in a garage and it flicker real nice and bright. Man a few of them on the falcon would look outstanding. I’m building my first f14 with lights now. Have fun man.

    The ONLY WAY people got those cockpit decals to work in their builds was to SAND OFF/FILE DOWN the plastic buttons molded into the sidewalls of the cockpit! The cockpit decals will not settle down on top of the buttons cleanly.
    Yes, it's 2001/the EVA pod all over again! (Although I saw about the Bandai PG Falcon decal issue months before the EVA pod videos were released.)
    The only way to get 3-D buttons to work is to paint them by hand. It's probably not worth it because how you are going to see 3-D detail from that kind of distance? They're tiny and you'd have to make the canopy sill removable!
    That cockpit area with the surface detail is one of the big fails of this kit otherwise it looks beautiful.
    It's more than what I'd want to pay but, "Oh well!"

  • @glen3898

    I'm going to be building a much cheaper Falcon as soon as possible. As I am new at modelling, this is probably a stupid question... but would "Washing" the joints (with black brown watered down paint) save a lot of time... or are the results not as good?.
    By the way, your Model looks FANTASTIC, I might start with a really tiny Falcon....and see how much trouble I can get into.
    Cheers for the video. PS: Subscribed.. I gotta see how this turns out!

    Do don't see a need for 15 versions of the Falcon or a dozen or more versions of the Enterprise, I'd much rather see some 1:1 scale hand props or helmets.

    Hi lou! One question for you,, would we get better lighting results on the engines if we cover the large upper and lower surface area of the transparent piece with foil tape?
    Loving the build!

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  Před 5 lety +1

      I was thinking that. But then I decide that. I'm going to forgo that setup and put in a strip of LEDs instead

  • @MrMcGear
    @MrMcGear Před 5 lety

    Can regular rattle can primer be used on this kit? Will it “destroy” the plastic that Bandai uses? It’s so confusing, some say yes and some say no to enamel primer.
    Thank you!

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  Před 5 lety

      Oddly enough, I didn't prime this one at all. I went straight to the wash/shading coat

  • @MrChief101
    @MrChief101 Před 5 lety

    What? Out of that strip lighting? The only improvement to what I can provide is to get it in blue. But you'll have some white pronto.
    So you chose the Perfect Grade Bandai Falcon for the speed run? I hear you've made the Kessel Run in less than 12 sprue trees... But I dunno, bud. This is the back strainer. I say good glueing to ya!
    Light thought-- if you want to see what else can be done with that interesting LED concept lighting for the engine-- is to remember that the quality of "ultra-bright" has changed over just a few years. You might try swapping out new model ultra-bright 3mm LEDs and see what comes of that. Also, try them in blue. ALSO, try painting the top and bottom of that thing in white to trap all those agile photons in there. That might be better without so much trouble.

    • @aztekdummy
      @aztekdummy  Před 5 lety

      Paint the milky clear part?.hmmmm... I will try the foil tape first before I do something irreversible

    • @MrChief101
      @MrChief101 Před 5 lety

      @@aztekdummy "Irreversible?" Nah, c'mon Dalmaso! Faint heart ne're won fair light control surfaces!!!" In theory, one should apply a layer of white then something more solid like grey. You want those photons to bounce inside not out. Mirrors bounce light at angles, so hope everything bounces to the rear... but, sure! why not!
