STEELHEAD PURSUIT | A SHORT FILM | A Story of Two Brothers Learning to Fly Fish for Steelhead

- My brother and I grew up in the Pacific Northwest. Throughout our childhoods, we lived near trout streams and thus learned to trout fish at an early age. Both of us have fished for and caught steelhead over the years but recently we both decided to try to fish for them more regularly. This is part of that story.
This all comes at a time when the numbers for steelhead, especially wild fish, are at a historical low. I do believe it's not too late for these fish and that we as anglers should be doing what we can to help ensure that there are wild runs of these fish for generations to come. One organization that I recommend people check out and get involved in if possible is @nativefishsociety3789

Beautiful film and excellent music. Thanks for having me, brother!
Thank you and thanks for agreeing to let me stick a camera in your face again!
Nice one Sean! Great drone footage in this video. Congrats on another cool PNW video.
Thank ya sir!
Thank you. This film was great to watch! ❤
Thank you for watching!
Thanks 🙏 for sharing! Awesome video! I to, am a late bloomer steelhead-er. Old Army buddy got me started. New adventures! Tight lines to you and your brother!
Thank you so much and same to you!
Great video! I started getting into Spey casting before we moved. I miss it.
That's awesome! Maybe it's time to take up trout spey!
Steelhead are certainly challenging. I have not really concentrated on them for almost 20 years. Even then, it was tough sledding if you did not dedicate yourself to it. I learned the Wilson (so I thought) and still did not learn it well enough (apparently). I imagine it it tougher for fly fishing since it seems most folks successful at steel on coastal rivers are more into bobber/jig/shrimp combos.
Great video, as always.
that shot coming out of the mist at 9:11 +/- .....
Thank you! I was pretty excited to see it happening in real time. Glad you enjoyed it.
Cool insightful video guys, great job! 👍
Thank you so much!
@@prolificnorthwest You're welcome
Awesome video
Thank you! I’m glad that you enjoyed it.
That is my latest thought
👏
🍻
You guys from Portland?
Not originally but currently based out of there. Where are based out of?
Do not use anything that mimics an egg pattern as it is more likely to be swallowed and is detrimental to the survival after release of these special fish.
Thanks for sharing
Thank you for that info. I had no idea. I'm now glad I usually was in the maribou jig category of feathery fluttery things.
Fly fishing is great for trout and salmon but almost waste of time for steelhead
I’m not sure that I agree but thanks for watching. Tight lines!
Nnaaaahhhh, go floss a spawner with a bobber rig
Flossing is certainly a popular option around certain 'combat fishing' areas. People at their worst, which is really sad.
I believe it is more difficult (fly fishing for steel), but certainly not a waste of time.
@@richmosley2519 agreed. To each their own though I suppose. I also believe that with greater effort, comes greater reward. If I wanted to do it the easier way, I would…..but I don’t. I enjoy the experience of challenging myself. I feel like it leads to a more fulfilling life….but again, to each their own……oh and I also just like going fishing with my brother.
