The Ovah Ball was presented by Madrid Ballroom Scene, CA2M and Mother Spain Silvi ManneQueen to celebrate the 5th Anniversary of Madrid Voguing Ball.
It took place as the closing of the exhibition "Elements of Vogue: A Case Study in Radical Performance) curated by Manuel Segade and Sabel Gavaldon at CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (www.ca2m.org) and over the floor installation " Kings of Arms Ballroom" by the artist Rashaad Newsome.

Not very familiar with all the different "Houses" and/or "Mothers" of the Ballroom, but there's only one name that whenever I hear it I know and recognize who it is immediately, and that's the Iconic Ms Leiomy Maldonado of the Ballroom. Her name is synonymous with the Ballroom.
💯 She's my gay mother in my head. 🥰🙂 I drunkenly told her I lived for her and admired her. She gave me a hug in the middle of the dance floor in club Escuelitas, a legendary black and latino gay club on 39th St. Manhattan circa 2011 . I'll always feel proud I told her that.
As she already stated more than once: she IS ballroom!

I am a gymnast and dancer and I love these wonderful folks. It makes me so happy to see the beautiful flow. I had no teacher when I was a young girl but I knew how I wanted to move my body. And when I first saw Vogueing in the early 80s I was hooked.

is there a reason why they are called mother and godmother? as well as icon and legendary? i’ve seen in a lot of videos that some have these titles in front of their names but i never knew why? is it suppse to show how long they’ve been voguing?
correct me if i'm wrong because i'm still learning, but mother refers to the leader of a house. someone is legendary if they hold multiple awards. not sure about icon tbh! perhaps it's someone whose style has become iconic? (ie the leiomy lolly, the hair flipping/twirling that you see in a LOT of dance now was created by leiomy!)
Morgan what I understand is that you become legendary when you’ve won consecutive titles for 5 years steady. While “iconic” is reserved for those with a trajectory of 10 years winning in a certain category. Voguing is one of them, but you can also do runway or face (like the mother of house of Garçon did in the video)
But yes, 100% agree that Leiomi is iconic, as a pioneer of the style that has shaped the mainstream culture in music, dancing and fashion
