In defense of Mansfield park:
Mansfield park is boring and nothing happens
That doesn't mean it's a bad book
That also doesn't mean it's a bad Jane Austen book. It doesn't follow her typical Formular and it is more experimental in it's narrative than her other works
Maybe she just wanted to try something new or maybe she just want at her best when she wrote the book
Either way it is one of her most realistic works
Like Virginia Woolf said in a room of one's own, the women of the 19th century weren't Lizzy Bennett's or Anna Kareninas
They weren't Jane Eyres in the privileged position to choose their own paths
And Fanny Price isn't either
She is bound by family duty, her social anxiety and need to please others and above all, her class
The story might not follow an exciting plot but it is one that we can learn a lot about society of regency time from
Plus I think it has one of the best yet most disgusting and realistic depictions of a woman being harassed by a man and a society that doesn't accept her no for an answer
Mansfield park isn't my favorite Austen either (I have read all of her works) and it certainly isn't the most fun of her novels but I didn't feel like your review did justice to the book so I just wanted to say this😅

I feel like you would adore Dorohedoro the manga. I don't know if you have heard of it, but I feel like you might enjoy it! (Based on the fact that you like Junji Ito..) It's very strange and gory with some VERY interesting characters. There aren't really any bad or good characters but just people who have valid reasons to do thing. And the world-building is very interesting and the art is LOVELY.

This month was long and weird 😫 first of the was Eid and it was so fun then I had mental breakdown in the middle of the month Then I deleted all my social media a LOT had happened in this time !!plus I have big ass exam in like 15 days so it is so stressful 😭I read 4 books “ which I’m super thankful for!” One of them was twilight I gave it 1/5 😭 I also bought new books because our summer vacation is two weeks away, so I have to be prepared! .... I'm currently reading before the Coffee gets cold and so far I totally agree with what you said about the pacing. I was expecting to finish it in one sitting and well... that ain't happening.
I have the first volume of No Longer Human but I haven't got to read it yet, partly because I hold the original novel in high regard and was kind of anxious about how Junji Ito was going to approach the material. I think your review eased some of my anxiety-you're very well-spoken!
I also have a suggestion if you will :) Japanese literature could be an fun video idea.
I mean, Japanese literature is a hit or miss for most people so it would be interesting to explore.
aha! i wanna pick up kulti as soon as i can 😩🤌 AND BOOK LOVERS 👀 and yeah no longer human was super disturbing. i did love manga adaptation but as i already read dazai's original work i just couldn't feel it (this was my first ito's manga as well) and there were bits of changes in the manga as well. regardless this was a great video, sending love~ 🌙🌙🌙

I read Mansfield Park not long ago and loved it. It's totally Austen's work for me. Main heroine Fanny is a brave girl and stands for what she believes in.

i only read 2 books last month, and one was a tiny novella from one of my favourite series. the other book i read was 13 minutes by sarah pinborough and i really didn't like it. i gave it 3 stars but it was really annoying and kind of predictable and for a thriller it was not compelling whatsoever.
however, this month i have already read 5 books (another novella and the 4 heartstopper volumes) and i can't wait to read even more this month. i'm planning on reading eva evergreen: semi-magical witch because of how highly you've spoken of it 🌙

My month was going well, I was really into reading until I picked up a little life. I am never EVER shutting up about this. This was such a waste because I liked the characters and writing and absolutely HATED the storytelling. It was confusing and felt like nothing is happening when everything is happening. I went on the internet and spoiled it for myself and I fucking hate how miserable it is. Way too much.
I am now reading "the house in the cerulean sea", and "Frankenstein" by junji ito thanks to you! My first junji ito book I read and I love it !

I’m reading a little life right now lol, I’ve read about a third of it and really enjoyed it but I know it’s just gonna get bad from here on so I might dnf after this chapter (the trigger warnings online said the next chapter “axiom of equality” is where most messed up things happen)

So in my head the story will end with Jude getting adopted and all the friends living their adult lives and yes Jude will have to deal with disability and trauma his whole life but he has a really good support system and has even been able to save enough money to be safe and comfortable and they might all stay in contact or they might not but they will always fondly remember their years together and know they have helped formed each other’s personalities and lives oh and JB might die or become drug addicted as of where I’m in the book right now but I don’t really care for him as he’s a terrible friend anyway THE END

I understand how you may like this because at the very beginning I did too until I picked up the way the story is told and it was confusing and messing with my mind a lot !!! I liked the writing and the characters but the storytelling put me off and the misery of it all was way way too much.
@@ranasafi4858 So I had some days to think about it and I've decided to DNF as well. I did enjoy the writing style and how the time skips mirror the way memories come back to us, and I actually became attached to the characters even after only reading 3 out of 7 parts. All of this just makes it more disappointing to me how the author decided to take the story. I did look at spoilers for the whole plot and that just confirmed that it's really not worth it to finish, at least not for me. It does intrigue me how so many people absolutely adore this book, maybe one day I'll revisit it

I read Tomie by Junji Ito, and can I just say that she’s a relatable character? I have my reasons haha! I recommend this book.
I read Taproot by Keezy Young, and it was a 3 star. I wouldn’t recommend it to someone wanting depth, but it’s still a nice graphic novel. Super gay. Super cozy.

Oh God thank you!! Whatever you said about "Mansfield Park", I agree with 100%!! I love Jane Austen but Mansfield park was honestly a disaster! It was soooo boring! And this is coming from someone who can't read anything but classics. Fanny and Edmund are two of the lovliest characters ever and I'll give it that at least. but ughhh!
