Happy you enjoyed Spaceballs, another classic from Mel Brooks.
Mel Brooks was born Melvin James Kaminsky and is of Jewish heritage. He always made Jewish jokes in his movies.
Mel Brooks received George Lucas blessing to make Spaceballs which is his parody of Star Wars 1977, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 1980 and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi 1984. Only one condition was placed on Brooks and Spaceballs by Lucas. There could be no merchandising from the movie as Lucas felt it Spaceballs merch might get confused with official Star Wars Merch.

A lot of people assume Mel Brooks got sued over this movie because it was too close to Star Wars. On the contrary, George Lucus loved this movie. When approached about it (also how they didn't get sued, they got permission for things that _could have_ gotten them sued otherwise) he even gave them permission to put the Millennium Falcon in the movie. Its only for like a second, but right before the diner scene if you look closely, its sitting in the parking lot.

Hey Nia, love your reactions. Just an FYI, in case you weren't aware of it, Mel Brooks is Jewish, so he never misses an opportunity to do Jewish jokes because ... well, he can (get away with it). So yes, the Druish Princess is a reference to uppity spoiled, high maintenance Jewish "Princesses". Only Mel Brooks could get away with it though, kind of like in Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and Robin Hood: Men In Tights, all of which you've already reacted to.

"Wizard of Oz", original "planet of the apes", "alien", Warner brother's cartoon "one foggy evening" are those I can think of. But you were okay. I'm sure there are more references. Mel was always nostalgic. Like his movies for sale in the gift shop being a shameful plug. And his disregarding the fourth wall. I thought for a while we'd get an R2 as a trash can but Mel didn't go there. Maybe if they remake it, the they that do it, will add more. But like I said you were fine. It’s funny George Lucas didn’t want Mel Brooks modeling the hero after Han Solo so Mel decided to go with Indiana Jones. Also George told Mel he couldn’t do any merchandise for the movie for fear it’d be confused with Star Wars so that’s why Yogurt has the store inside his place. Funny thing I didn’t notice when I first watched this movie was that Dark Helmet is wearing a necktie and what the necktie looks like. Not many people catch on to the fact that the prince she’s supposed to marry is called Prince Valium and he’s always sleepy. The radar tech is Michael Winslow who played in the police academy movies and does many different sound effects with his voice. Marlene and Charlene (the twins) did promotional stuff for double mint gum back in the 80s.

Spaceballs isn't a rewrite of a Star Wars movie. Brooks lifted a few ideas here and there, mutated them, and shoved back into a new movie. It's overall a science fantasy like Star Wars.
Princess Vespas's wedding scenes at the beginning and end of the movie are a reference to It Happened One Night.
Spotty (Scotty) and beaming is a reference to Star Trek. When President Skroob is turned backwards, is he temporarily President Brooks?
A raspberry salute is rude sound.
The video cassette shows the infinite hall of mirrors effect.
The dink dinks are a jawa version of the Seven Dwarves.
Yes, the ship turning Mega Maid refers to Transformers.
Absolutely no idea if the suck/blow refers to anything.
The end of Planet of the Apes shows a half buried Statue of Liberty in the same shape as the crashed Mega Maid components.
The Diner scene with John Hurt references an Alien scene with John Hurt.
The octopus birth might be from Prometheus.

I mean, they still make Star Trek movies and TV shows, just like they're still making Star Wars and Planet of the Apes media, so it kinda shocks me you've never come across that before. In the original series (and the reboot movies with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk), Kirk's first mate and Science Officer is an alien named Spock from the planet Vulcan and his neck pinch trick was his favorite way to incapacitate the bad guys they would encounter.

While the little alien creature didn't have much to do with the plot it was a direct reference to the Alien movie from 1979 ( which I'm sure someone has already pointed out ) and the little creature was doing a spoof of a 1940's cartoon character that goes by the name Michigan J. Frog who sang that exact song in the cartoon. czcams.com/video/bkjsN-J27aU/video.html and BTW did you notice a familiar looking ship outside the space diner ? You saw it in Star Wars. Its a real blink and you miss it moment. Great reaction !!!

13:52 Am I the only one who thinks this scene bears a resemblance to _The Wizard of Oz?_
I mean there are _four_ of them. One sort of looks like Tin Man. One sort of looks like Cowardly Lion. They're going to see this character with a very large, far-reaching _social_ stature whose _physical_ stature is not quite so impressive.
Is it just me seeing this resemblance?

    • @sasamichan
      @sasamichan Před rokem

@@NiaMakiReacts Alien is scary or at least R rated with jump scares. Fear is subjective. It has creatures that can kill but also a hero fighting back and it and Predictor are part of the same story line.
yes many shows did parody of Star Wars either for part or all of an episode.
Muppet Show and Muppet babies fall in to the "1st trilogy era" where as Family Guy, Robot Chicken and Phineas and Ferb fall in to the "1st 6 movies era" and Lego did all 9 movies
