Cool seeing the york dumb bells. Hits home for me. My great uncle was an orignal worlds strong man. George "Ernie" Pickett and trained at the york gym in PA. He set several records back in his day if you ever get the chance to look him up.
The york globe dumbbells are like circus dumbbells. These are my favorite by far. It’s cool how some old gym equipment is still in good condition. It says a lot about the manufacturer
*I have some vintage Weider and Gold's plates a man in his 20's sold me that once belonged to his father. He built a modern rubberized plate gym and I still imagine kept some from dad, but what he and his wife sold me was a wicked bargain and a 3 hour round trip! lol* My plates would easily grab some big bucks in auction, *but I'll likely keep them until I cannot use them anymore, and know they will end up with the right person.*
Brian is such an inspiration. Considering I’m getting back into working out, he shows that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Even though I’m not planning to be a power lifter yet, he is still inspirational to get fit and at least get to the average point.😁
Instead of planning to be a powerlifter, why not plan to be a champion power lifter? The only person who can tell you "no" is you. So set your goal high and break that goal down in to smaller goals and then break those goals down to ones you can achieve (IE increase your bench 5lbs this week). The thing I love about training (and I've been training since I was about 13) is that it's all up to you to see how far you go. You'll have injuries, plateaus, feel like you just don't want to train today or have a cheat day on your diet, but if you work through all that, you'll get the results you want and nobody can take it from you.

I just watched the entire season of the strongest man in history for the second time. I dont understand why there isnt a second season. Its really a good show. I have a feeling that the show really boosted the world of strongmen. Hope to see you do it in the future. I love the oldskool subjects of lifting also. Started out myself in a real oldskool hardcore gym 😂

Apparently, the Shaw Classic will be Brian's last formal competition, so I'm a bit puzzled that he continues acquiring dumbbells and machines. And I'd think he'd welcome chances to eat a variety of foods from here and there. Maybe he's planning to try boxing and sumo wrestling, like Eddie Hall.
Would like to see a follow-up video with additional history of what makes these so special. For instance, you mentioned them being used by old-timey strongmen so it would be cool to see some clips! Also would be cool to see them in use. Keep the vids coming champ.
You definitely got your hands on a couple great sets of vintage dumbells. You should be able to find a proper set of 40s to complete the round head set without too much trouble.

Very nice dumbells, the YMCA in downtown Green Bay Wisconsin used to have the old York bun style ones and I loved using them, however since the renovation they have all new weights now

I workout in an old school powerlifting gym and these are the dumbbells we have. The globe ones are a bit tricky to use on presses because it's difficult to balance them on your knees.

Olyphants Academy in Toronto Canada is a still a running gym that probably has the largest collection of old equipment in the world, we're talking 100 years old or older you can just go there and train, its pretty amazing.
Some Eleiko bumper plates that were made around the mid 90s. See 1993 world weightlifting championships. You would have seen the legends Naim Suleymanoglu (The Pocket Hercules) and Pyrros Dimas (USA weightlifting coach) using them. You could probably do a hefty clean grip muscle snatch with them. Good power training!
I love seeing old dumbbells like these the gym where I got started and still work out at has pre USA stamped York roundheads from 10 to 90 lbs and I also got a pair of 100lb York globes from there for my home gym love old school gym equipment
I bought all Reflex Fitness Products equipment for my gym in 1992. This company was out of Orion, Illinois. They outfitted many professional ball teams at the time. It's almost impossible to find Reflex equipment on the used market now. I assume that because the equipment is still in use.
